I don't know as I have ever really been able to work, LOL.

Did you get to mess with the generator at all? I want to see a youtube video so we can hear it too.

Well i did an inspection last night and i can see there is some fiddling i need to do before i try to run it. The governor is frozen up and the strangler is not moving free. So if i had a runaway, it would be hard to stop it. Detroits are simple engines, but they are particular about how they are operated. Oil change, fuel system cleanout and general checkout first. So vid might be a while.

No worries bud. I did just crank it over, so its good and free.
It sat in a municipal yard salt building for years so theres some corrosion to deal with.

Holy cow you have a lot of stuff. Bet you don't even discard old toothpicks for fear they might come in handy someday.

Wouldn't it be easy to stop a runaway with a fuel cutoff switch or covering the air intake?

Cutting the air off should kill it most of the time, but not always by cutting the fuel off, they can **** the oil out of the pan and run on it. If it gets to running to fast the best thing is distance, like from it to you.

Yes, theres a strangler in the intake now, but i cant move it. Frozen. Spareparts is right, they can run on their own oil too. You cant stop them with a rag either. I tried once to stuff a rag in a runaway and the engine sucked it in and pooped red fluff out the exhaust.

The trailer i borrowed from a friend to go get the detroit was looking shabby, so before i take it back, i grabbed a knotted wire wheel and knocked the rust off, and am working on giving it a spit shine. I hope he likes it. Maybe it will give it a few more years life.

I wish I was a 1000 miles from mine, at least then he would have a reasonable excuse to never come see me. I understand your pain.

Did you have some nice weather? Hopefully you at least got to grill or have some family time.

The weather is great here, with low 80s and a gentle breeze. Wifey and i are on the way back from dropping the trailer off at my buddies, he was really stoked. We stopped at a grocery and are getting grillables for tonight. Hope you are feeling better. I may get to work in the shop today.

Our weather is looking better, so we may have a shot at grilling too!

My back is feeling much better than it was on Saturday, so I guess that is good. I am actually at my shop, need to unload the truck that we spent the morning loading at the house.

Hope you get some QST (quality shop time), that one is from another member, but I like it.

We are so wet here in Ks. we had a snorkle from a sub in the fairway at the golf course, but we were lucky, a tornado took it away.

Well today, after we got home from my buddy's, i moved the detroit into the shed, and sorted hardware to get it off the floor.

I have to figure out where to put a couple of these racks. Like the one on the right here.

The south wall is pretty much spoken for, theres 3 workbenches and a section of pallet rack shelves. The north wall will also be the 24in pallet rack with welding and machine tools underneath. Anybody got good ideas of where to put these racks?

I dont know if these are ever left out in the middle of a space. I keep hardware, tools and oil and filters on them now. I probably wouldnt change that unless i saw a better way to store things like that.

Maybe it makes sense to put them on the north wall near where the lift and service bays will be.

Could you put the racks perpendicular to the wall in a smaller area? Maybe have them under a section of pallet racking.

Maybe on end under the pallet rack on the north wall? I need to get that setup to get a sense of scale first probably.

Plan on moving them more than once, I know I have. Sometimes you just have to sit there and look at everything, I used to sit on my upper level looking down at things, sometimes it just hits you.

When I did my stockroom, I lucked into buying 12 or more of the same racks, $15 each. I kick myself to this day, I could have bought as many of them as I wanted for the same price, must have been a hundred or more of them.

Just a reminder, the small stuff floating all over the place is going to take way more time to find a home for than you think. I have stuff that is still floating around from years ago, although I have been tossing more of it lately.

It's been a slow month for me in the shop, been concentrating mostly on honey-do's for the missus. I took a rare day for myself on Father's day and started to clean up. Imoved some motorcycle parts up onto the racking, and also i had 3 air conditioners i needed to move out, so i put an ad on craigslist, and had a couple out to look at them in 1 day. It helps when it's over 90F the day you post the ads. I priced them pretty low to get them out the door. While testing them one of them let out it's magic smoke, so i think that one may go on the scrap pile. Or i may put a little effort into fixing it. We will see. This week will be mostly cleaning the house, we have my brothers family coming at the end of the week. So probably not a lot getting done on the shop for a while. Iwill try to get more pallet racking up though, that seems to be the biggest enabler.

Sometimes the shop is not as important as life, I have had the same type of stuff going on, nothing really in the shop.
