Ok, i'll try to move the bridgeport and drillpress too. I'm also taking Strouty's suggestion to get as much out of the shop as possible to allow moving around. I think some of the items up by the door can leave, such as extra pallet racking, and maybe plow parts.
I need to get a few engine dollies made to move engines under the pallet rack shelf in the corner. Anybody got any good links for that? I've seen a few online but nothing exactly like i'm thinking. Got a powerstroke, a 6.9, a 289 and a 302 that really should go under there. I need a forklift!

A forklift will be a game changer, you should start saving pennies ASAP. Looking at the pictures now on a much bigger screen. Be prepared for some advice...........

The things I see right off the bat are the tower sections, they do not need to be inside, the couch, the old VGA computer monitor, the car seats, the fifth wheel hitch, and the mower attachment for the tractor. I would say that is a good start, then like I said, just try and get like things with other like things. It will progress from there. You have lots of space, but now you need to use it appropriately. I am saying this, because my shop was at the same point not so long ago. I am slowly getting a handle on things, but it is a constant battle. If you can't afford a forklift, get a pallet jack, then get everything up off the ground so you can easily move it around with the PJ, it will make things much easier. I also like to try and put everything on wheels, then when I have to change directions with a project, I can move things quickly. Yesterday I had to get a truck inside my shop that is about 10" shorter than my shop is deep, I had to move everything out of the way and it took me 20 minutes, of course I have a forklift so it helped, but really the only thing I moved with that was a large fab table.

My father in law bought the front half of a little forklift from a salvage yard and welded up a mount for it to fit his 3 point hitch. It runs off the hydraulics and makes it easy to unload seed from the flatbed.

I like your suggestions for what to take out. Not sure about the seats though, we've got so many mice around, they tend to strip upholstery if left out.
they already chewed up the bronco wiring. I might have to live with them inside for a while yet. they're supposed to get swapped into the F350, but i won't do it until it comes inside the shop.

I've been thinking the same thing about wheels. Put as much on wheels as i can. I am thinking monday about picking up some more steel for mobile bases on a lot of stuff. Table saw, engines, etc. I need to be able to roll engines under the pallet racking without a forklift for now. Even if i got a mast, it would still be a project....

Pallet jack would be sweet. I'd love to have one.

Yes, that would probably work fine. I've got another set of seats i need to store too. They're not here yet though. I can see already i need more pallet rack beams to put the 30" racks to use. I've got more open walls for racking!

With that out of the way, i'll update from the last couple days. In the middle of a 4 day vacation, Have taken some suggestions.

I wanted to clean this wall up.

So i started by moving all the materials out that i could.
And unloaded the scrap/shorts steel and started organizing.

I'm going to put a shelf on the bottom of the welding table to hold shorts.

Strouty wanted the tower to go, so i did move it outside, but not wanting it in the weeds again, i threw paint on it so i could finally get it installed.

I pulled a shelving unit out of the old boiler room and stripped the wall.

I also got outlets installed in the leanto, which got all the outlets on the north wall working again. No pic.

Then started cleaning up the boiler room and gutting all the lights and wiring.
Knocked out the wall for the bath since the bathroom will be changing when the mezz comes down.

Then got rid of the stove pipe since i'm getting rid of the powervent.

Thats where it is this morning. Going to go get the shelf for the shorts done this morning.

Looking great, the shelf will definitely help for storage of the steel. What is the plan for the tower?

It's going outside the shop with a fm j pole and maybe a webcam. Don't really have a use for a TV antenna on it since we have a network dvr and the shop has network connection. I would like to pick up tiger games, but the shop is a Faraday cage and I only get a couple stations right now.

Before lunch i cut and welded 3/4" angle iron on the insides of the table frame, man that was a PITA. Burned myself many times as i was hunched over under the table. 6011 doesn't weld upside down well, so i gave up on the underside after a few and just tacked quick. Fillet welds on the topside.





After lunch i made a 3phase extension cord and got the table saw running in it's new home in the woodshop. Cut 2 shelves out of old 3/4 mezzanine floor plywood.


Shot of after i got the shelf done, and all the shorts organized and on the shelf. Anything about 3 ft long or longer will not go on the shelf, and will get some different type of storage. I'm thinking a long 20+ ft rack will go out in the leanto, or maybe between the woodwork area and the Fairlanes. Not sure on that yet, depends on how much room i have left.



Meanwhile, i continue to paint tower sections while the sun is out and it's breezy. One more flip and all the paint will be done. Did manage to spill paint on the shop floor. Whee...

Last update today. I moved another shelf into the pallet rack and loaded all my paint on it. I thought I was going to fit 4 under there, but it's too tight. I'm skinny, but not that skinny.

Then I attacked this corner again.

Moved the 5th wheel hitch under pallet rack.

Cleaned up as much as I could.
Moved the parts washer out. Like with like. Moved lumber.
Pallet rack remnants outside.

And time for bed.

Today I moved the drill press and bridgeport. Drill press no issue. I had never moved the BP from the front before. My usual method of hoisting with chain on the ram did not work. I almost dropped it on myself. After I cleaned my shorts, I went to town and got a lifting eye and tried again. It's looking quite empty in there. My method of cleaning and attacking individual areas seems to be working, so I will continue.

That is something you could try too, a project in pieces takes up a lot more space. If you get some room, tackle a project or two putting everything back together and it'll clear up a lot and will just snowball.

Good suggestions. I'm not sure when I will be able to get back on this, I had the fuel pump on the truck fail yesterday, the audi needs brakes and my kids truck needs a head gasket. Lots of stuff to do.

What is your son's truck? I'm working on a Duramax and the head gaskets on that are a completely different level of involved compared to the head gaskets my brother is working on on his 289 Mustang. Hopefully it won't be too involved for your sake.

It's a 91 F150 with the 300 six. It's not a real challenge. Just a pain to have to do it.

Couple of hours, just watch the water pump bolts, some of the early 300,s had a short bolt on them. And if you put a longer bolt in that hole it would crack the cylinder lining on #1. Off hand I can't remember the years it affected. I'am 71 and still learn one thing new every day, but forget 5.

I'm still around, been super busy lately, fixing car problems. I did manage to pickup a pallet jack though, so i'll show that soon as i get it home.

I think it was Strouty that suggested i pickup a pallet jack, and that suggestion was a good one. I bought one from a local auction house, for $36. It had locked up load rollers. I tore it apart to this level:

All the bearings were bad. I noticed all the bearings i found online were expensive, so l started looking on ebay. Found a good deal, then noticed they were in the same city i work in. Swung over there during lunch and picked up in person. $12 instead of $40 wins for me. Rebuilt the rollers last night.

And my first task was to move the compressor tank. it was effortless.

Then i cut a pallet in half to the size that fits some engines i have, and i'm building a "chair" for the engines to sit on top of the pallets. I think i'm going to have to setup a section of pallet rack to use as a bridge crane to lift the engines onto the pallets so i can move them though, since the pallet jack and pallets won't fit in between my engine hoist legs and i need to lift the engines to get pallets beneath them. I'll post when i figure it out.

Nice job on the pallet jack, you will find so many uses for it. The bridge crane sounds like a great idea too.

I'd say those bearings were at the end of their usable life, wow. A bridge crane would come in handy and something I thought about building many times.

I would absolutely love a bridge crane in this shop, but the cost is likely too high for what i'd use it for, so right now, the tentative plan is to build a gantry crane at some point. i think i can use that for the occasional need to offload a machine from a trailer or whatever, and could even roll outside if needed. Storage against a wall is probably what it will spend most of it's time doing. My son and i did setup a short section of pallet racking in the middle of the shop last night. I'll use that to palletize my engines for storage. It's nice because i can just knock it down and get rid of it when i'm done. I'll try to take some pictures tonight when i'm home.

I'll have to get more photos later today, but I put the spare 7.3 on a pallet with help from my missus and ready for another engine.

And threw it under the pallet racking. Did a couple other ones too.

Then decided to palletize the 330abp so I could get rid of the huge cart.
