Got some oil tanks setup and the truck emptied out. Knocked a bunch of paint off the lathe. Think I'm going to setup a electrolysis tank this weekend and hit the lathe hard. I need it bad. I never go to work anymore so I am out of options.

I read fine. I was just trying to point out that diesels don't have condensers or coils, hence, no point in asking. If you didn't know, well that's alright. Sorry if I sounded like an ***.

Tractor still giving me fits. It's cutting out under load. I replaced the condensor this morning. It's still doing it. I think next step is replace coil. I don't know what else to replace, i'm running out of ammo for the parts cannon.

How old is the tractor, does it have vacuum advance on the distributor or is it a diesel?

I found out last night that there are slight differences in IBC tote sizes. My tote is smaller than the tote i got the oil out of.

Ask me how i know...

Been spending a lot of time working on the lathe. Parts of it all over the shop and I need it running. The rain hasn't been cooperating so lift beams aren't getting scrubbed.

Memorial day weekend 2020.

Shop fire edition.

You heard that right. Been cleaning the shop. Getting rid of stuff I don't need and finishing small projects. Years ago my wife knocked my big shop fan over and busted the grill surround. I used it without for years but always was worried I was going to chop my head off around it. Found a grill at a yard sale last year for 5 bucks. Finally got around to putting it on this weekend.

I repurposed the plastic trash can to a sawhorse to get it sitting flat while I worked. Made a few tack welds and then decided to break for lunch. Came back an hour and a half later to find this mess.

Lost my grinder, torch head, and mig lead.

It had to have smoldered for at least an hour. Came out just in time to see the last of the flames. No apparent other damage.

Expensive lesson.

It *****, but a reminder to be careful in the shop...

I had some things stacked on a plastic oil pan the other weekend....came out to seeing the pan partially collapsed and a massive puddle of oil on the shop floor.... Spent the whole day cleaning it up... Floor dry, then soap and washer, rinse and repeat...

We are our own worst enemy at times...

Yes, good thing i am positively religious about turning the gas off always. Or it would have ALL been gone. It took over an hour for the smoke to clear with fans in the windows and the big door open. I think the torch handle is rebuildable, the fan is ok, and the mig lead and grinder are toast.

It's a $500 mistake.

I'm super glad that no one got injured and the shop didn't burn down. $500 hurts, but as far as the flip side, that was a very cheap lesson. Stay safe.

Well after all the drama last couple of days, i did score one win. I found the problem with my syncrowave. I moved the pedal to work on the fan shroud and it quit working again. Cable! I ordered another cable and we'll see how it goes with that. the old one does have a couple of taped spots.

And I got a wonderful steak dinner courtesy Mrs. Turbo.

Thank you. Smoke alarm would have done nothing. Sprinklers is only thing that would have helped.

Don't you have high ceilings? I highly doubt the fire would have been hot enough to activate them.


An internet connected smoke alarm on the other hand....

14ft. Not sure how hot it got up there but no black mark on the steel at all. Lots of smoke though. Took a couple hours to get it all out.

Sounds like what happens whenever I start my L10 Cummins inside.

I figure if it is 90 here, you are probably seeing some of the same, too hot, too early for me.

It was hot here for a few days, but it cooled off again. Been cleaning for days. And this followed me home. Pretty serviceable condition. Even managed to figure out how to pick up without wrecking it. Now it needs a home.

Is that one on of the belt reduction models, 86? That would be a bit of a bummer if so. The 4 speed gearbox they put on some of them is really nice. The reeves drive is pretty unnecessary though except for production.

Nice looking saw.... Before you go crazy with it, I would release the tension on the blade and check the bearings for the wheels.... Not that I'm recommending to go diving into another project, but it's worth it to check....

I'm currently in the process of rebuilding a horizontal 9x16 saw and it "only" needed a new set of wheels.... that has turned into a full rebuild with bearings, etc... I'm going to try to sand blast and paint.......ug.... I rather wish I had not bought it.....

It's dead simple by gearbox standards. Just a few sliding gears and enough room to hide your retirement stash. The guy that had it before dad never filled the oil after shipping apparently, as it was dry but doesn't leak. Who knows how long it ran dry. Some gear damage but not enough to require any repair.


I've been into his pretty deep, so lemme know if you need any advice. The one issue I never could figure out is that the lower blade guide is not adjustable regarding in and out, so it doesn't do much with thinner blades.

Got my flashback arrestors and put the new torch handle together. That's officially operational again. I think i might work on the AC plumbing tonight. It's a HOT one out there.
