My experience with my M5OD (and the completely worn down to nothing shift forks at 160k) leaves me thoroughly unimpressed...good call on the ZF5. That said, as much as I hate automatics I think they're a good option for a work truck...especially when maneuvering a trailer around on a regular basis.

That is awesome that your kid is already responsible and has his own lawn business!
Now you need to show us the trailer he will be towing.

We haven't built it yet. I've got him looking for trailer axles, and we'll build him one to his exact needs. He has a John Deere 155 backup and an M&W zero turn as main mower. He's just getting started, but he didn't want to work for the man. Since he's living at home still, we can support him while he's getting started.

That is great, I wish I had done that when I was his age, I jumped ship as soon as I could, wasted a good portion of any income on rent and other expenses. I think things would have been different if my Dad had your attitude. ;)

Haha, thanks, I tend to be hard on him actually, but he's a good kid and coming around slowly.

Been a busy week. Got the heads off the kids truck and dropped off at the machine shop. Yesterday found a zf5 and bw1356 for a good price 2hrs away and went after work to retrieve it. So now he's pretty squared away. About 2w until that mess is done.

Just got up this morning and opened up fb marketplace. This showed up. I was the first caller. 9mins after posted. Advertised as 'wiring issues'. Immediately jumped in the truck and went after it.

State d15.

Rewired it. Works great.

Cost. Wait for it.

20 bucks.

Yay! Kid's heads are done. He had to take 8 thou off the deck to flatten. Should be in good shape. Tomorrow is a wash, we'll be out of town, but this weekend looks good for wrapping the job up.

Been a while, i am sorry. So quick update:

I got the kids's truck back together, and drove it over to the house to flush the cooling system out. It still overheats. I went to drain the radiator and prep for removal to flush, it didn't drain after i pulled the plug. Says probably a lot of sediment. I ordered a new radiator, can't get the lines for the auto trans off the old radiator. Frozen. My kid think's i'm an idiot and can't do anything right, and i don't have endless time to play with it, so we're fighting. The whole thing is just a beat down.

Winter is on the way, and i don't have all my outdoor stuff done yet. 50's this week. Probably another month and a half before snow flies.

So with all the discouragement, i've been staying away from the forums. Sorry.

Ha. I'm reasonably sure a Chevy experience wouldn't have gone so well as this... based on previous experiences. ;)

Sorry to hear that.

I don't suppose he's offered to fix it himself then? But yeah, I've been there with my dad so I know how it is.

Fix himself? Ha! He had auto tech at the career center for a year, he still doesn't know anything. And when i ask him to help out in the shop, he just stands there and b*tches. I told him to get out.
And i'll fix it when i get to it. So we fight....

And to add insult to injury, we have a potential covid-19 situation. My daughter's boyfriend was visiting from Wisconsin last week, 5 days, left on Wed night. Came down sick on Sunday.
He's getting tested today, 4-6 days later we will know, but i'm banned from work now. whee...

i'm still working, at home, where i have been since March 19th. I don't mind that, but i am supposed to be going to work once a week to put hands on parts and make sure my projects are on track. Harder to do at home.

I DEFINITELY DO NOT want Covid. I have high blood pressure, which is one of the WORST co-morbidities to have with this virus. Even though i am in good shape physically, this virus could kick my ****.

Whup, time for an update. I've been swamped both at work and at home. I apologize for anyone following, i haven't even been looking at my normal haunts, such as Strouty's thread and many of the others i enjoy so much. So a basic update:

Winter is fast approaching, and i've been trying to wrap up outside. In the spring, when the ticks went nuts here, i found a website that said that Guinea fowl would eat them like candy. so i ordered some. min order was 15 birds. Then, like 20 weeks later, they showed up. It takes that long? Apparently there was a run. Whatever, now i have this **** to deal with. It's August and i didn't have anywhere to put them yet, so they went into a big water trough we had. Fast forward a few weeks and it's September and i have to get a larger shelter for them. So i spent a bunch of time building an outdoor chicken run. That's finally done and they are in there, then i had the madness of my kids' truck and blown head gasket. A month in the shop that was. We finally got it nailed, and he's been driving it this week.

And lastly, i have been trying to get final locations set for the 4 post lift in the shop. That's been a cluster because the boiler isn't on yet, and i only have a small electric element as backup to heat the 100 gallon tank and then about 2 hrs to dump the heat into the slab, one circuit at a time before the heat doesn't register. BUT, the wife and i finally got a placement of all the posts that avoids ALL tubes in the floor and i can run all the anchors without hitting anything. So that's next on the agenda.

I hope to post some photos this weekend of anchors going in. Stay tuned.

Sounds like you have been busy, glad the truck project is done, sounds like that was a bit stressful. It also sounds like you are closer to being ready for winter than the rest of us. :(

Glad you were able to get the truck back on the road, I hope things settle down for you, but I'm sure like me it is just a constant barrage of overload.

If you have to go on Covid quarantine you can do like I did, and retreat into the shop! You just have to get that heat working...

Thanks guys. i'm already pretty much in quarantine, they just aren't enforcing any lockdowns right now here in Michigan. But there's talk of it again. We're hitting daily all time highs for infection again. What did they think was going to happen? It's cold out!

The sad thing is, nothing much has changed other than i get to work from home. I like that a LOT. The former shows i was pretty much an introvert anyway... oh well.

Well, i went to start installing posts for the back lift today, and found at least one of them doesn't sit on the concrete flat. Started to look at it, and found the base plate all bent and even a cracked weld. So i got out the gas wrench, and started heating and whacking things back into shape. Found the come along and pulled the cracked weld back together and getting ready to pour some 6011 into it. BUT, i can't find my extended welding cables. Been wandering around in the shop for 1/2 an hour looking for the giant pile of copper. Nowhere to be found. Man, i really don't want to haul the posts over to the welder. This shop is driving me crazy!!!

Time for beers. Photos to follow.

Smarty pants. i did finally find them, stacked on the wash tank. And even then, i still ended up hauling it over to the weld table to hit it with the mig. The stick wasn't working very well today. I'm way out of practice. It's cooling down and i'll get a finished shot. I think a little more hammer bending is indicated too. I think this is the worst one. We'll see.
