I think I ended up calling a couple of forklift equipment suppliers to find my kit.

I forget the name of the place in Harrisburg, PA (Mechanicsburg) area... But it was just off of PA 581... By a Cracker Barrel... The wife wasn't exactly happy to pick it up after work, but she did!!

I would suspect they would ship parts...

Edit.... I think the name of the place is Equipment Depot. 741 independence, Mechanicsburg, pa.

Thank you. The big forklift isn't running right, so i haven't been able to disassemble the Clark yet. We've been all hands on deck with the regular tractor and my boy's pickup, so that should all be done today and we'll get back into the other stuff.

Ah sorry, i got it off the trailer and it's been sitting since then. Working on my boy's truck and the tractor. Finished the tractor, and we thought we had the truck done, but it's fighting us.

So the story on the lift, the guy got it from a local shop, he had to file the points, had it running good, had some fun ripping around his paved driveway, then realized he didn't have a real use for it. So it sat in front of his garage for 2 years until the city started riding him about how much **** he had sitting around. So he sold it to me for what he had in it. It cost more in fuel to go get it than he charged me.

From what he told me, no leaks, runs fine, just the points were giving him trouble. It looks pretty unmolested inside. Just needs a real good cleaning and spitshine. Probably paint too, but that's down the road.

Yes, i'm reading wheelieking on PM too.

Progress is good.......

How much work do you have to do on the next two vehicles?

Pics of the forklift are interesting. WheelieKing has some good pics and info in his thread on PM.

If I can make a suggestion..... I think the Namco would be good to have running and operating as I could see it coming in handy for the other forklift projects and moving stuff around in the shop...... Hopefully you don't have a bunch of mission creep on this project. I made a specific deal with myself not to worry about painting my mast cylinder when I did all the seal work.

Candidly, I was a bit disappointed to see it plopped in the field..... I get it that you are trying to stage your projects and not take up space in the shop.... But it looked a fair distance from the shop and hard to get to if it snows.......yes, that dreaded word....LOL

It's in the field because the tractor and kids truck were directly in front of the shop. And the big forklift needs the carb twiddled with to get it to run higher rpm than idle. That's the next issue. The carb on that forklift has been rebuilt, but there's some issue with the high load circuit. I probably missed a chunk of dirt or rust. Then i need to clear some more space to work on it and clean it up. It's going inside before winter i promise...

And frankly i think you're right, i need that running before anything, so i can start loading up the pallet racking and getting floor cleared. I know the obvious answer is "sell some stuff" but the trouble is, nothing around here seems to sell well. I've had stuff on marketplace for months. For cheap. And it doesn't sell. And i'm not talking junk either. Factory quarters for a supercab ford for $75? Nothing. Ranchhand bull guard for a Chev truck? 6 months, 2 tire kickers, no shows at 150. People around here are CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP.

The daughter's audi B5 is done except the steering rack needs to go back in. Anybody who's ever done one of those will tell you about how bad it is. Then that ones probably done.

My Audi, needs a timing belt/water pump/CV boots, brakes, troubleshoot the poor idle(probably vacuum/pcv leak) and finish up the chinesium stereo install/backup cam. There's other stuff too, but it could wait if needed. It's at 305K. It doesn't owe me anything.

Then there's the shop cleanup, get ready for winter, and various welding projects, then shop heat again. It's neverending.

Yes, never ending for sure. I know how you feel. Almost should read “ever compounding”. :(

Maybe even “forever compounding”. :( :(

"CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP" except for the vehicles built there. Lol
Reality is theres a lot of money right in Detroit suburbs, but get an hour away and it's all trailers/double wides and old houses. Average house value around here is a little over a 100K.

That's good!! Now it's close enough to do a few things to it while the weather is nice and if you have to wait for parts, it's not in the way. And once it is ready to run, it's ready to go right in the shop and do somemwork for you. Good deal!

Started cleaning up the Namco. The gas tank and gauge are missing, there's a small lawnmower tank scabbed in. The whole thing is full of leaves and schmutz. The muffler is rotted out, and the pipe going to it. There's a little general funkiness in the wiring. Nothing major i think. Fluids are mostly full and look in not bad shape. Engine is a CCK Onan like i expected, i need to get filters and a battery to try cranking it over.

No mission creep is going to be tough...

The small lifts like those are very nice for inside the shop, then don't take up a lot of room and they tend to save a lot of labor. Looks to be fairly dry inside, so maybe there won't be any crazy leaks or anything.

Interesting.... Here would be my approach...
Drain gas from tank and the carb float bowl.
Add some fresh gas.
Drive truck over. Connect jumper cables.
Crank it over to check for spark and possible ignition.
If it starts, see how it runs.
Then decide how much to actually start changing.

My recommendation is to do as little as possible for the short term.

A running piece of equipment is so much better than dead in the water....

But that's just my two cents...

He said he had it running, but it kept burning the points up. I have it cleaned up fairly decent although it could use a pressure washing. Just went and got a battery for it, i hope to spin it over tonight. Should give me an idea on engine health. I think this year Namco didn't have an oil filter, and it seems to have a later engine in it. It's got a filter, but the wrong one. It's supposed to go through the heat shielding with a grommet to promote airflow across the heads.

The master cylinder is frozen. Probably the wheel cylinders too. Those aren't very expensive or hard to get (normally) but you know what supply chains look like these days...

Installed new battery, battery terminals, machine cranks over very nicely, horn even works! Now to get spark figured out and filters/fluids.

Thats good!!

Do you have to pull the flywheel to get to the points and condenser?

It's been awhile since I had to troubleshoot spark issues. I will say that having the spark indicator is helpful. It plugs inline with the plug wire and the spark plug....

I'm not familiar with the Onan engine configuration either...

Good luck!!

Nope, the points are on the front of the engine at top center. A little plunger pushes vertically into the spark box and moves the points. I haven't investigated that much yet, it's pretty dark out there, even with the head light.

Change the condenser
What do you think this is? An AC system???

We have a winch that uses an air cooled VW engine as a power source, years ago we added an HEI system from JC Whitney and it was awesome, engine ran great, at least until you pushed the talk button on the two way radio, then it would lose power and slowly die until you let off the button. Needless to say, it still has points.....

Seen a few writeups on electronic ignition hacks for the CCK. If there's very much involved in getting this working, it'll likely get a pertronix. I love the one on the oliver. Nothing to futz with ever.

On the owan engine that little push rod wears down, used to be easy to get one don't know about today, a lot of Lincoln welders
used that enging, might be a parts source.
