I have just caught up on this thread & I am sorry to read of your loss.

Your words have made me think about my relationship with my Dad. He turns 80 next April & I need to try & spend more time with him.

The Fairlane will be a fitting memorial & I know your Dad will be proud.

I now get to spend time with my boys. They love the shop and my wife is very happy to have me teach the boys a few things. I remember being with my dad when he was working on things. I also remember it is faster to do it myself, but faster doesn't make great memories for them. So every time it start to feel like i'm not getting as much done, remember that this time with them is short, so I (we) better make it count.

Oh man, I love the sunbeam, had a Tiger in the early '80's. The Pinto is a nice clean car, good looking.

Love the story about the shop. Too many family things get sold today because no one cares so it's nice to see a story about someone who still dose.

Thanks, I am blessed. Next time I go to the shop, it is Fairlane time. I have some new friends who are wanting to help. There is something that beats deep in the hearts of car guys. 1st thing get the donor 289 out and fresh. I will post some pics of the boys sidecar my dad built. P.S. I still miss that man.

Neat photos man! Keep it comin, and keep crackin!
Back from Oklahoma. I never get to work in the shop, I just get to work around the shop. So ready to start on the 64 Fairlane. We have been cleaning out Dads house, which means the shop is filling up with odds and ends. Random tools and screws and .....

He was amazing. He built and painted this without a shop of his own. He built the bike for the boys, but we realized that it fits an adult. I suggested a sidecar, and in about two weeks, we had this. The boys are just now getting to the age where they can drive.
He could make dreams out of junk. And we all think of him everytime we fire one up. The torch has been passed to me to keep everything running.

Here is Dad on another bike he created to ride. It has a 13 horse Briggs. Some people have dog bone risers, but dad put a dog dish over the clutch. He later repainted it and lettered it the " Hardly- a-Davidson Mower cycle"

I love the story, thank you for sharing it with us all. Any updates?
All is well at the shop. I have had zero time to work on the 64 fairlane. I own the house next door to the shop ( mom and dad built it when I was a kid) which we rent. Our renter moved out and we have been working on the turn around. We have put about $10 k into the house. The shop has been great to store rental repair supplies.
I have been adding to the tools. Picked up a 2 ton cherry picker off of CL. I hope to move the lathe Into the shop when the weather warms up.

I am planning on getting some things done on the Fairlane when the boys are out on spring break. I will post some more pics soon.

Right now I spend almost every night seeing what all of you guys have been up to. What an awesome way to get ideas and inspiration.

I will be pulling my step fathers 66 f 100 over to the shop soon. Going to check the compression and start the 289 before I pull it out. If it runs okay, I plan on getting the Fairlane running and everything mocked up. I have a t - 5 out of an 88 mustang. But I was thinking about just putting a AOD ford in. I want to widen the wheel wells just a bit as well. Once I am happy with everything, then I will pull it all apart to send out for paint. I figured I would rebuild the 289 while it was away.

Should be fun, my wife wants to help with the engine rebuild. Her first car was a 66 Mustang. The engine is the one thing they didn't rebuild on her ride.

I like the stories and the cars, how about some pics of the 66 F100?

Here is the donor. Never fear. Here is a pic of the 427 side oiler that will replace the 289 in the truck.

On the way out to take a picture of the trucks, I find this Big Bad Boy.

He picked it up for $15 at a farm sale. I think I might restore it for him. Just a little thank you.

I look at GJ everyday. I am planning to rebuild the living quarters soon. Talking to the City about adding onto the shop. I hope to rent the addition to help cover the expenses of the rest of the shop. Happy Fathers Day guys. I will be post more pics of my current project.

I will be posting back on the thread soon. I have been blessed to purchase a new project. Last year my wife asked me to start looking for a shop that would be closer to home. After a lot of looking, we closed on a 4000 sq ft building that has been neglected for years. The 2 wooded acres was a bonus. We also found that it had a 25 x 20 red iron work shop. As soon as I can I will upload photos a record the transformation. My current shop is zoned commercial. We will be renting it out to offset the renovations and investment into the new Garage. I will be asking for advice and opinions. Looking forward to reconnecting with all of the guys that I have followed for years.

I have always checked in on your progress and move. I will post pics of everything day. It also will end up with 720 sq ft of living space attached. Wife is supportive and the kids are big enough to help.

I don't post here very much, preferring to see what the talented folks that post can do.

But this thread is really something. Your perspective and attitude are admirable. Your Father is proud of you.

Best.
