Looks like your getting together a pretty good collection. I have been building mine since I was 14, slowly but surely whenever something goes on sale or I get a deal I add to my collection.

I held off on sending out my box because I came across this set of Wiha pliers that I thought the OP would want me to add. There is enough room in the box. They are brand new - but redundant with my other pliers that are mostly Knipex. Still really high quality German tools. Just PM and let me know, and post it here too so Richard can keep track:

I came across a set of needlenose which is part of this matching set of Wiha pliers too, but I already sent off the other tools. I will send it with the next group once I find more tools you need.

Box from Makapuu came today, Thanks a lot! (phone broke so ill post a picture when i get the new one). The wiha pliers are really nice where do you buy them? also those knipex are the first pair I've ever held and they seem extremely nice I'm going to have to buy some of those as well. Everything will come in handy! Thanks again, Evan

Happy they arrived in good order. Yes, the German pliers are the best in the world imho. Especially Knipex, as you can clearly see from the pair you have. Shop wisely for them; you con get them for great prices. Check dealer's comments here as well; for example Chad's Toolbox has the lowest online prices, but there are dozens of complaints here about waiting for months to receive tools. Zoro, German Hand tools, KC Tools and Harry Epstein have a great reputation here.

A gift given to someone with strings is not a gift.

They belong to you! You have the right to do whatever you choose with them.

Nice. Im currently 18 and also have a huge passion for fixing things, working on cars etc, I have probably only gotten serious about my tool "collecting" since i had turned 17. a couple months after, i found this forum and my mind went crazy. i learned so much. and saved/spent alot. :lol_hitti At first i didnt know what to think of this thread, but then i thought when i was just starting i would have loved to get some help as well. and seeing everybody come together to help this guy is great. i will also join in as soon as i can go through all my tools as they are currently a mess/scattered across my room.(live in an apartment = no garage, no shop) my advice to you is with tools such as ratchets go quality, a nice snapon will last you forever if you take care of it. for sockets go lifetime warranty so you can get ALOT to start off such as Craftsman or Kobalt. Also you might not be a mechanic but when you have money, keep an eye out for a tool truck and get on feel quality tools a buy a couple things that you like to make a relationship with the drivers. i recently got to know my local Matco guy. he convinced me a screwdriver. now i plan to go get the set because i liked them so much. mind you, i used to think i was going to be "mostly" snapon but i kept an open mind when i got on the truck and the other day i needed some specialty sockets so i called him and he was miles and miles away. over 10 cities away but he offered to drive here after his route (ofcourse i didnt make him to that)

ok package that i couldn't post the other day and i added a craftsman 2 drawer to the bottom of the cart, drilled out the lock (took all of 10 seconds haha), took off logo, ground paint off and welded it to the frame almost done welding but ran out of gas so I gotta finish it tomorrow. The box isn't that great of quality but it would hold stuff for now, the box ended up being like 8 bucks with the newest sears screw up. I'm gonna do the pry bar modification one of these day just didn't wanna spend 20 bucks on a 6ft piece of angle aluminum when i only need 18in. oh well heres the pictures.

and yes i know I'm gonna finish and grind the welds and paint then and there is 2x4's under the box to hold it up when the box is weight to relive the welds a little. the hf box is just on there to test fit and take a picture.

I know I have some stuff to send, I'll just have to check to see what. Stuff I never use that I've been sweating about what to do with it. I'll cover the shipping.

What a nice clean set of tools for a teenager. Very impressive.
Stick with used local tools and you'll get a lot for your money.

Please put up an updated list of what you're missing and/or want. I missed out on this thread until tonight.

a hint, anything 1/2" and larger buy impact sockets, chromoly from HF. extensions too. Not much anyone does by hand anymore. Save for a compressor, hose, and impact.

Wow,you guys are generous. I'm 16 too, and its nice to know that I'm not the only one teen on the journal, and not the only one who loves to spend time in the garage working on stuff. I have learned so so much from this site, and forums in general, you guys are incredible. I do a lot of work on jet skis, boats, and cars. Just from the internet I learned to rebuild motors, and that combined with a tool addiction led to a jet ski building addiction. I am looking for a new job hopefully at some kind of auto shop right now. I also just got my first toolbox, I am very excited, I don't know how I ever lived without one.

when i was 16/17 - i went to sears with my father and applied for a rapid credit application and bought a basic 3 unit toolbox, and a very nice sized mechanics tool set that came with almost every basic style/size socket in 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 - sae and metric open combintation and ignition wrenches - and a bunch of other stuff-- ( organizers, screwdrivers, other wrenches) 20 years later, my boxes are still in perfect shape, and i have probably 80% of what i originally bought, and just filled in what was missing.. PLUS - have a huge amount of stuff i added onto.. (now in a 44" HF ) anyway - i made payements on the card till it was paid off, (im sure dad helped) and it helped teach me to take care of my stuff..

i know its hard to do on this website with so many people in your ears - but at your age, and your wage - dont put yourself into dept buying top tier tools. ( i think i might have spent $1,000 at the time) its better to have craftman in the tool box, and some money left in the bank account.. this way if a job is lost, or you decide to do something else, you dont have to sell off your tools or toolbox to survive. most people (because there are always exceptions) dont go out and buy the big house as their first purchase.. they start out with an apartment , save money, goto a condo or townhome, save money, and then one day buy the house , when they can aford to live in it without having to eat ramen noodles every night. think of your tool collection in the same way.. cheaper tools now will allow you to DO more at work, make more money, so you can afford all the S/O stuff later..

I have the same top and middle chest. Assuming that's the heavy duty line and not the premium heavy duty line. So far, they've been great. I lubed the slides as soon as I bought them. The heavier you load the drawers, the smoother they slide. Obviously to an extent.

Good start. I still have a lot of cm stuff that I started with when I was 16. I'm 54 now. I have a lot of dupes of sockets. Let us know what you still need.
