That is really an awesome project and the fact that you are doing it yourself with limited experience is commendable to say the least. Good job so far.

Very nice job.
But I do wish you would stop putting a ladder on the scaffolding plank.
Bad habit.
It puts a side load on the scaffolding that they were not designed for.
If they go down, your not covered.
"Improper use."

What are you doing for stairs to the loft? I'm building a similar garage with a loft, and haven't quite figured how to get a full sized staircase up there.

I see your trusses are evenly spaced. My truss company recommended moving one truss over to accommodate a staircase. But we weren't keen on that idea.

Great build, nice work. I really respect guys who have the initiative to take on a job like you have.

Where did you get your trusses? Do you mind me asking how much for each?

I am in the planning stages (building mine in 2009-2010) and I am hoping the budget allows for a loft like yours, it is sweet.

PS - I am from the interior of BC and don't envy the mud you have been dealing with.:)

My trusses (which would be similar) were about $3900 for 20 of them. (28 x 38) They gave me a 14' wide x 38' long room with a 7.5' ceiling.

Great Build. You may have stated earlier, but how tall is your garage?
Thanks,
Brian

The first truss was placed on the back wall then the 2nd and 3rd truss were doubled up with a 4ft center, then 2ft centers from then on.......hope that makes sense. Here's some pics of the stairway

I bought my trusses from Sun Truss in Langley. Cost me 2800.00 for 16 engineered trusses.
Do yourself a favor and go with a loft. Its a cheap way of adding extra square footage. I gained a 15x30ft room with 8ft ceilings. 6ft pony walls on the side. The roof is a 7/12 pitch......which was a bit scary shingling.
Clay based soil here......the foundation is on solid hardpan though.

How much space do you have at the top of your stairs to the stem wall? How tall is your ceiling in the garage?

Just curious as I am in the design phase of a 28 x 32 garage with very similar design.

Where did you buy your plans for this garage?

DIY'R here also but have father-in-law that is a contractor and plenty of "free" help to set the heavy stuff.

10ft ceilings in the garage. I had a local guy here draw up my plans. He made some great suggestions, most I wouldnt have thought of. He does mostly commercial tilt up concrete buildings.

Garage doors were installed just in time. I wanted to be closed in before the snow flies. I wish I could have dry walled before hand. Starting to frame in the bathroom under the stairs. Its also time to start thinking of electrical. I have a 100amp panel at the house which is almost at capacity. Maybe a 60 amp sub will do.

You guys are getting hit pretty hard by the snow down there this year eh ?

We were down on the coast over christmas and the snow on the main roads in abbotsford was higher than the under carriage of the car. I think Vancouver has like 3 snow plows total haha !!

I love all the people driving around on all season tires and flipping over on the freeway where the road is dead stright for miles :lol_hitti

Nice shop and sweet Camaro !!

Been awhile from my last post. Tied in my service lines (sewer, water) made a mess of the yard haha!! Getting ready to plumb for the toilet and sink. Almost finished up the wiring. Also added a quick little garage tour video....dont mind the mess:)

thank you for taking the time to post. This is EXACTLY the garage I plan on building next year except 26x36. I plan on permitting it just for storage upstairs, but might turn it into an office/guest quarters

Using attic trusses is a very inexpensive way to add extra sq feet. The price difference between those and regular roof trusses is almost the same. The only thing I would have done different at this point is to mabye gone wider. If there is anything you need help on, let me know :)

Any updates?

I have a few updates on the garage project. It is fully wired now also with satellite, phone, internet and surround sound upstairs. I added outdoor speakers hidden in the soffiting. Nice when your outside working.

The toilet is plumbed and working:thumbup: I ended up painting the floor the checker pattern. Was a bit of a PITA taping it off.

All the insulation is in and ready for sheetrock. My epoxy floor coating arrived yesterday, so that will be next weeks project....if I can get off the couch:) Will post pics..

Today I rolled out the new Epoxy-Coat paint on the floor. I first prepped the surface with a diamond grinder to give the product better adhesion. I strongly suggest having an extra person helping you mix the paint while you roll it on as it sets up rather quickly. :)

Looks awesome man! Congrats. This is just about what I'm going to build when I get some money saved up. I built a new house and made sure the attached garage was a decent size, but I need a shop where I can have a lift! I used the same flooring you did. I love it over a year later with a variety of automotive work! It holds up great, the only thing that will damage it is a heavy object that is dropped on a small contact area. It tends to chip off smal pieces if you do that, but not a huge deal.

Great job on your garage 67restoproj ! ! ! it always feels great to see others going through the motion, it gives me hope as I am in the starting phase of the demo of my old garage, it should be completely gone by the end of next week, after that, we start the new one ! ! ! 20'x40' on two floors + 12'x22' attached also on 2 floors. The loft idea is great I might do that on the second floor of the 12'x22'. I am planning on starting a post soon ... Keep the pictures going, it is always helpful for the new guys ...

Thanks

I love this forum. It has given me much motivation through my build. I am starting to see the end of the tunnel. Make sure you post lots of pics.

Thanks for all the pics....I'm highly envious, especially of that man-room upstairs....boy, what big speakers I could put up there.

Heres a few shots as the shop sits in its current state. Installing 8 1/4 Hardie Plank siding over 3/8" x 1" rain screen.
Rain screen is code here in BC. It is treated plywood ripped into 1 inch strips that basically gives you an air gap between your siding and tar paper or tyvek. I was going to use cedar siding but I heard it reacts negatively with Tyvek Paper.

I like this a LOT and am hoping to do a similiar size.....but I need at least a 12' ceiling on the lower level so it may be too tall by the time I am done.

Great Job, I am afraid to ask what the total project cost was? Post it if you don't mind.

I couldnt go with a 12ft ceiling due to height restrictions. I sit at 21.5ft at the peak which is the max.

I figured I could build this for around 18 grand...:spit: Double that:(
