I have the Netgear Arlo system. It is similar in that it has the cloud based recording BUT instead of just 12hours, you get 7 days free!

I havent checked but I think i can do the away feature too. just another option if you are interested in looking into these types of systems.

Arlo is 100% wireless on the cameras (Battery operated, lasts for 3-5 months depending on ammt of movement in front of the camera)

This is a much better option for a camera. Also, the 'pro' version has an SD card in case the internet goes down. The only upgrade to this I could think of would be the 4G hotspot option as a backup.

I gave this one a try for 2 days and returned it. I was intrigued by the wireless part of it. The views were crisp. But the downfall was the batteries. It says in the manual batteries will last you 6-9 months. But fails to mention only if you have it on the lowest setting possible in an area with very little traffic. Ohh yea batteries for it cost $35 dollars for a set of 4 (takes 4 batteries) Well day two and it was showing my battery % was down to 85% already. I decided to pack it up and return it. Ended up going with a wired Swann 4 channel 4 camera system wired with NO LAG.

sorry I just saw this now.... but you can order the batteries online in bulk...i get them for $1.50 each from battery station. You are correct that they are really expensive in local stores!

We have a Canary in our second home, it's hard wired to the router...we don't use the wireless option. We like just being able to see the house when we're not there, a few times we've kept an eye on workers in the house. The Canary is placed on a shelf full of family photos and most people are naturally curious about those so we always seem to get good close ups of visitors faces! It doesn't seem to be readily recognized as a camera...The house is in a small town and photos would be very useful in tracking down intruders. Local law enforcement is generally aware of who the troublemakers are and video evidence would make for an easy arrest and conviction.
