What style trigger/release are you using on that behemoth?
Shame that the composite floating arm, pneumatic power trebuchet we built in varsity had so little welding else I could see if I had a picture of it to share.

The trigger is very similar to a tire chain tensioner,with a pin that can be pulled remotely.
Little welding or not,it would be great to see yours.

You must be over 100 years old to have the time to knock these items out. Very impressive.
Enough goofy for one thread
I started this thread with a couple recent projects and it turned in to look back on
quite a few projects I've done, some as much as 35 years old.
My wish is that it was not taken as bragging or grandstanding but a presentation for anyone to get ideas from and tap their imagination for their own goofy projects.
If anyone has any questions or need specifics on any of them, just ask,
I'll answer as best I can.
I had fun with this I hope you did also.
Anyhow here is one for the road, a large forged split scroll candle stand.

I worked in the metal trades and a good bit of my projects have been done at a contractors shop that I worked for, the rest in my garage or yard.
I retired 4 years ago and still have the keys to the place.
I still do some project planning for them and it is a nice perk to have the run of the shop.
Now then, I started my own shop build 2 summers ago and it has been slow going with other commitments and working mostly by myself.
This shop will be used for boat building more so than metal work.
Anyhow here's a couple pics

I was a little concerned how the handrails would look,made in in panels, but the directer of homeland serenity loves it.
You all know that when momma's happy...........
Something that she really likes is that the handrail mounting plates are RR tie plates and the fasteners are RR spikes welded to all thread and through bolted to the deck.

Royce, thanks for posting the pictures! I am a wanna be fab guy but unfortunately I have little imagination and so so welding skills. Yes I can weld, but I do not consider myself a welder. So thanks for putting up the pictures. I can challenge myself to do something creative but in the end I will have to copy someone's idea and make a few changes to suit me.
One of the great things about GJ is the amount of ideas that appear. I can use ideas from others and make something for myself that in the end will be better than if I stumble along on my own. My "Work Bench Goals" thread is an example, good ideas from others incorporated into my bench project will result in a more enjoyable bench for me.

That stove started as a idea from my youngest kid 6 or 8 years ago.
Without her prodding, input and good eye,it would not of happened.
The layout work was about as tough a job as I've ever done, mathematically.
I also had a buddy spend a day with me working on the math.
It was a real ***-scratcher, with a good bit of trimulation in the end.
That stove takes the cake for me too, because when I look at it, I see my kid and my buddy.

Incredible work, all of it. I am insanely curious how you develop the "bark" texture on the logs...

The texture is applied by running individual weld passes with 5P stick rod.
It is a little tedious and time consuming, but would great practice for somebody learning to weld.
The end grain is brass applied in a circular pattern to simulate growth rings.
