I've kinda been slacking a little, but I finally got off my **** to built my workbench. The bench itself was pretty simple. I spent a little over an hour with the girlfriend to build this bench.. I probably spent longer at home depot waiting for help. The bench itself is 7ft wide and 2ft deep and 41 1/2" high. Everything was joined together using Simpson strong ties. As far as height goes... I hate hunching over on shorter benches, plus I wanted to be able store my stool under the bench when not in use.

All that is left is to install the shelf on the left side which is 5/8" plywood... then I'll prime it and paint it either dark grey or black (most likely black). The work surface will be supplied by my girlfriend, who works for a an office furniture design firm. It will most likely some kind of laminate in dark grey or light grey. Which ever is in the warehouse and left over from installs.. I'm not picky.

Total investment so far is $48.00 including screws.

After this is done I'll start looking for my Epoxy floor, which will most likely be Epoxy-guard from Costco.

This is the original plan for the bench that I drew in solidworks, before i decided to just mount it directly to the wall.

Very nice. Built my own bench myself as well. On a side note: Love the car, I had a white 95 myself. Working on an 87 right now. (Should have never sold the 03 Terminator!! As well as the SN95)

I used those same type brackets to build my bench. With lots of screws they are very sturdy.

Thanks... I've had this car since 96... wow has it been 12 years? The car has all original paint.. minus the Cobra R hood and Cobra front bumper. Everything else... well... it has been changed at one time or another.

What surface are you putting on top of your work bench? Looks sturdy to me!

I'm planning on using a polycarbonate (or some kind of plastic) laminated office type furniture work surface. My fiance works for a office furniture design firm and they make some pretty tuff work surfaces that they use in cubicles. I would much prefer stainless, but I'll be getting these for free so I'll give them a try.

Looking good!
Nice SN95 too!
Looks lowered...what type of suspension you installed?

I've had this car for 12 years, so some of the suspension is dated. It has Kenny brown matrix system w/ subframe connectors. Kenny Brown Pan hard bar. Maximum motorsports lower control arms with FRPP "C" springs and bilstein shocks in the rear. The front has maximum motorsports cc plates, MM coil overs with bilstein HD struts. Its been so long I have no clue what spring rate I have in the front:confused:

strnge,

Looks like he drew it himself. One of the small captions mentions Solidworks. It a solid modeler program. Look at the little drawing tacked to the wall.

where did you get your plan from?

Merlin is correct... I used Solidworks to make the drawing, which only took like 15 minutes. I actually did not stick with the plan which had four legs on the bench. At the last minute I made the bench 7foot instead of 7-1/2 foot long and took the rear legs off and just mounted the rear supports to the wall.

I'll have the finished pics tomorrow. I ended up getting wood like laminated work surface and I painted the framework gloss black.

Final product

Finally finished the bench. I used a high gloss water based product to paint it... mainly because I didn't want a mess. The counter tops are high density MDF (pretty sure) with a thick wood like laminate on it. I'm not sure how it will hold up, but then again, I'll put down some card board or a thin steel sheet if I solder or start rebuilding transmissions again.

Total investment including paint and countertops (those were free :) ) was $60.00. Not bad... plus I have a little left over to get my 50 year old Kennedy rollaway powdercoated, and little fridge to go on the left side shelf.

Oh yeah... forgot to mention.. I purchased a few stainless shelves, towel holder and paper towel holder from IKEA. They are pretty sturdy and didn't break the bank. I usually hate going to that place, because I feel like I'm hurded around like cattle... but I spotted those in the catalog and pretended that I wanted to look for furniture around the house... ;)

Thanks..

I'm pretty sure the shelves were $19.00 for the 30" by 12" in stainless. Look in the Kitchen section for these.

Fantastic job! I want to build one exactly like the original (standalone) version that you had designed in SolidWorks, but I lack the design tools and skill. Any chance I can mooch a copy of your plans in pdf or something I can look at with a CAD viewer? I respect intellectual property and all, so it's perfectly cool if you don't want to, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask!

No problem... I already have a copy in PDF format. Just give me your email address and I'll send it.
