A new Plasma - Now includes a TABLE

Who wants a big screen TV when they can have a new tool :lol_hitti

Finally after forcing myself not to by a Plasma cutter, I've bitten the bullet.
After much research, I've bought a Hypertherm 45
They are quite cheap in the States (jusy not fair) but here in Oz they are $4200 :(
I have looked at all different models & I just can't see myself wanting to cut real large plate, so the 45 seemed the go.
One of the reasons I chose the Hypertherm range is they are CNC compataable which is the plan. I can unplug the torch, plug in the machine torch & computer & way I go.
I will be building the cutting table soon, but not for a gantry yet.

While I was waiting for the sparky to arrive to wire up the plug (plus I'd had enough of bashing metal for a while :wtf:) I knocked up a trolley for it.
It's been used already, cutting out some stub structure from a '48 F1 floor.

Blurry pics I'm sorry. Too much of a hurry with my phone, but you get the jist.

Nice little unit there for what you are doing it should be pretty good.

BTW televisions are over rated especially when compared to fun toys like plasma cutters :)

I agree :thumbup::thumbup:

I was quite surprised at what it can do for such a small unit.
(but my Miller TIG is only small too :bounce:)
I have (in aprevious life) spent some time on a plasma cutter,a lot of it slotting bore casing. I can tell you the unit I used was a lot larger & though it to was 3 phase, didn't have any where near the punch this one does.
I grabbed a chunk of steel plate ( I would have said 5/8" or something) and even though it's not rated for it, it just treated it like butter :headscrat
The 3/8" was great
I rarely cut anything thicker than 10mm (3/8") & if I do I figurered my Oxy could step in, but I reckon it will do very well.
Yes, it's main taskes are for sheet up to 8mm so it should be good.

Why, oh! Why? did I wait so long to buy one
yeah! ..............I know $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Now the next toy is ..............

I have the same one mate. I'm still just blown away on how well they cut. I have some 3/4 flat cold roll 1018 and it cut it without a hitch. Of course I had to pull it a little slower than normal but it was clean.
Have fun with it:)

+1! Tvs are for the anesthetized subjects out there who want everything spoon fed to them. Also great cutter, I wish I had the use for one.

Those are great little units. They replaced the larger 600 this year. I ended up buying a Miller Extreme 375 because they had not released the Hypertherm one at the time yet.

My Miller is also very good at cutting thicker metals without issues.

Can you post up some pics of the cart without the plasma on it? I like it! Better than my POS. I love to build stuff, I just can't design stuff. I am great at following plans though! I can't draw to save my life!

I started throwing the table together for it this arvo

I'll have to wait to build the top intil my next steel order arrives.

Hopefully one day it will also have a gantry & CNC gear on it, but right now thats only a dream :(:(

Sorry., I don't have any pics without the cutter (lucky I even thought to snap a pic when I did :wtf:)
If I think of it, I can organise one for you though.

Well maybe just a bill of materials! I can go by the dimensions of the cutter and probably get it close to yours! I really like yours though!

Thanks, Tim

Well here ya go.

Photo0423.jpg

I took it off the trolley for you, so you can get a better idea of it.
The base is 26" x 15" with the angle legs being 22" long point to short.
Of course the legs are angle cut in both directions and as I set it up with a bevel before setting the saw up, I don't really know what the degrees is, but I would guess at approx 5 ??
The main from for the machine it self is 6 3/4" x 16 3/4" inside, but obviously you'd have to make it suit your machine.
The little risers with the hooks for hanging the leads are 12" high & also prevent the maching falling out, just incase you should knock it, though it is held pretty well buy the base.
The main material is what we call 30mm so in your measurements it would be about 1 1/8" I'd guess. most of it is 2mm wall (sorry, not sure what that is in imperial) .079" or something??
The sides of the frame that holds the machine it self are in 2" x 1" and little handles are just some scrap small pipe I had.
It's funny, as I wheeled it over to use it today, I just push on the hanger posts & don't use those neat little handles I added.
Oh well, the intent was there :lol_hitti

P.S. you'll notice some little cut outs on the rear of the car, these are for the power lead & the computer hook up (if that ever happens) as the 2" angle was a tad large. Nothing a gronder couldn't fix
The casters are about 5 1/2" high and are the best I've used yet (I'll be buying more of them )
It is a good height with easy access to the controls.
No lugging it around :bounce:

I hope this has been of some help.
If you wish to use the design, go for it.
I just made it as I went to suit what I thought I needed, but the main thing was it is stable with the wider base, but not too wide that it takes up too much room.

A little more progress with the table today.
As hard as I tried, I just could finish it.
So after a very long Sunday at work, this is where I'm at so far.

Yes, the slats are replaceable. They are just sitting there.
