When I did the original post I meant both Taiwan and the PRC, since Taiwan is still politically part of China.

Only in the chicoms minds. I don't really have any problem with products made in Taiwan, at least they are a democracy.

My priorities run:

USA
Japan
European sourced (Western)(rarely found)
Taiwan
Thailand/Malaysia
Mexico
India
Chinese/Vietnam

Back to the OP's question...

I've been impressed with Fenix flashlights, I consider them tools. They're Chinese, and the Chinese more-or-less "own the field" on efficient LED emitters. You can buy better USA-made SureFire lights, however I believe their LEDs are also Chinese or possibly Korean (correct me if I'm wrong). Fenix is putting out little 2xAA lights that best 200 lumens. I've owned a half dozen. One needed some dielectric grease on a contact, some have funky color overtones (just part of the current state of LED technology, which doesn't output light along the entire spectrum), but all have been dependable.

Back to the question: How about the Blue-Point tools that are made in Taiwan? For example, I'm looking at an external torx socket set. Price seems reasonable. Would you guys consider that a high quality tool?

Fenix lights are an excellent example of a high quality product from China.

As far as the emitters themself, the very best LED's are made by Cree Systems, in the USA. I know this for a fact because I personally built the thin film deposition machine they use to make them, and then went along with the machine and helped install it at their facility and train their operators.

You are right though, the vast majority of LED's are made in China.

Is that right?! Good to know!

Googling this...Uh-oh...wait a second...

"DURHAM, N.C. – Light-emitting diode and electronic chip maker Cree (Nasdaq: CREE) is expanding its manufacturing capacity in China...Cree already has a facility in Huizhou and more than half its total employees work in China, the company noted..."

Yeah they manufacture all kinds of emitters and filters and stuff like that. AFAIK their high end LED lines are still USA at the moment at least. It was a couple years ago when I did that install though, so I could be wrong. :headscrat
