I have been copping a fair ribbing lately, firstly from some of our members in Australia, that I have not started a thread or posted much about my shed, so today is it and secondly from some members (who shall remain nameless) who cannot understand just what it is like to live at the bottom of the world.
So this will be a taste of things to come as this is the way some perceive we do things down here.

Dare I ask what one "puts" in that wishing well when making a wish?

When you decide to build a larger shed, may I suggest a vehicle project?

The story begins like this

We purchased our house some 35 years ago on apprentice wages and from memory they were about AU$35 per week, bearing in mind that petrol was about 13 cents per litre at the time.
Built in 1949 the house had been a renter for most of life and it showed, with the shed little more than a corrugated iron, timber framed, dirt floored shanty with lean to. Not being able to afford a new shed due to the renovations we were undertaking as they were a priority at the time, I put up with it as it was for a number of years.
Predating digital images I don't have a lot to show of the old shed at the moment, will try to scan some in due course.

Our home as it is today with 2 car carport and the shed in the background.

Never seen a Thunder box out house with that problem. Mine is still the right way up and locked due to the Redbacks.

How about the Model A ?

Did my Xmas tree stir you up to get 'started' on this post ? Have to say I admire your work.

PM me the member(s) hassling you and i'll report them to a Moderator .

I will be detailing the A during the thread, softly, softly at the moment with the thread, I have a fair bit of material to include.
I have got to say I felt a bit anxious about starting a thread about me, but seeing my work on your thread, and encouragement from others did get me going I have to admit.

I love what I do and get great satisfaction from doing so to the best or better than my abilities allow.

Many thanks.

I've heard about your work and I am wanting to see more.

There is a fair bit more to come, but I have really have got to start from the start so you can see the bigger picture so to speak.
I pondered long and hard as to wether to do heaps of different threads or just one. When I thought about it I will just do one or so for the time being and see how it goes.
So much of what I do revolves around the shed wether it be replacing a tap washer in the house or restoring the Model A.

Turning the clock back to 1985

The shed situation became unworkable, at the time I was working long hours at work, on afterhours call, moonlighting most weekends, trying to renovate the house, raise two young boys and prepare and race a Mini Cooper S in the then Super Mini Series on bitumen I finally got the nod from my Significant other Half to go ahead with the build.

Putting pen to paper (no CAD or Sketchup in those days) I proceeded to design the new garage (shed to some of us Aussies) and carport for submission to council for approval.

Impressive drawings Steve. Typical of the detail required by Councils here.

What was that about a Mini Cooper ?

The drawings are a bit crusty now but did the job.

Make that 34 British Leyland/BMC vehicles I have once owned, driven, wrecked, raced and sold in my early years here but that's another chapter of the 1/2 Cup story. I still have my service tools and manuals.

Fast forward to November 2013

The Shed Down Under.

View media item 35450
Nearly 30 odd years old and like a good wine improving with age.

All steel construction, which when I built it many sheds still had timber purlins and girts.

The shed measures approx. 25 ft. wide x 30 ft. deep, with a personal access door to the right which you cannot see ( refer to plans ).

The room with the red roof and cream walls to the right of the shed started life as an "Alfresco" outdoor dining area but has since become a temporary storage facility for my Model A parts much to my wife's distain.

The Alfresco outdoor build will be an integral part of this thread down the track, due to the lack of images I have of the original shed build.

Can't wait to see more.

I own a 1965 cooper s replica which I have rebuilt over the past 10 years. Now I need a proper shed to put it in. That's why I'm here.

Nice one, i still have a real soft spot for Minis, thats probably why i havent let go of my service tools and manuals to date. About all i have left is a thermostat housing gasket.

You are welcome to put it (your Cooper S that is ) in my shed any time.:)

I will try and dig up some pics of some of my Minis and post them here in due course.

The garden shed.

View media item 27578
I built this shed for all the garden tools and house overburden which really helped to free up space in the garage.
3.5 mt wide x 3 mt deep x 3.5 mt high all steel.
50 X 50 RHS frame.
2 bays of Brownbuilt shelving i picked up at auction.
A wee bit untidy at the moment.

I like the brick paving, nicely done. Do I also see an Air Con fitted to the shed ?

Yes, I have a spilt in the office area and an old 2hp box unit in the workshop which I am considering replacing with a split as well, they are more cost effective to run.
There is also a ceiling fan in the workshop for those days that do not justify running an A/C.

OK, I also like the window security you have as well. I have bars on the inside on two of my windows.

I made and installed them just because you do, as a precaution, I also installed an integrated alarm system to both the house and garage. It just gives us a little peace of mind and cheaper insurance premiums.

A few older pictures to give you an idea of the inside layout.
Basically the shed is divided into three sections, Workshop, Storage and Office/ Garage for the Model A.
Due to the inspiration from the forum it is considerably more tidier now and i have rearranged the peg boards.
