Purty looking. That's a lot of aluminum.
I have had a Harbor Freight bench buffer sitting in my cabinet for about a year and half waiting to be used (still in the box). I just ordered some buffing wheels for it to get started on polishing some stainless and aluminum pieces. I don't have the baths you do but we will see if they turn out as nice as yours did.

akdiesel, your right lots of aluminium for sure. The engine was not that bad before we put it in the bath but cleaning it like we did has taken it to looking factory fresh.

I have to say I just really enjoy polishing stainless and aluminium as the finished product can be just so rewarding.

I spent 3 days on the Model A surround and probably the same on each of the head lights with my home made buff.

Pretty crude but it works well.

My BIL used to own a chrome plating business and I scored all their old buff wheels that has kept me going for years.

Note to self: Need new TV antenna and TV in Shed.

Not trying to keep up with the 1/2Cups

HOTFR8 Not that I have the TV on in the shed all the time, but its weekends like this that make it really worthwhile.

Motor looks great 1/2 Cup!

Thank you Coop We are very pleased with how it has turned out and should make for a reasonably pain free assembly.

I have wiped every thing over since the pic was taken with 3M grease and wax remover just to remove any residual staining from the bath.

Have a great day guys...

I used to have the TV in the computer until we had the digital changes. I often think I would get more done in the works by not going back to the house just to watch a good car show (or Bathurst). It is on the list to update the Antenna and put a TV in at some point in time but at present it is just not one of those essentials or a priority. A day like today it would be good for Bathurst.

Great looking Model A 1/2cup. It looks just about ready for final assembly. Better get that put together so you can enjoy it this summer.

Those fenders are just downright ****...

Coop, I had a mate of mine tackle the fenders and running boards for me, being black they have to be 100% and they are as nice as the pics show for sure the rest of the body I have painted myself.

1/2 Cup

Yes indeed. I know you have your plate full but that is a great project and looks great too.
Thank you.

akdiesel, the end game with what I have been doing with the carport and storage will ultimately free up the shed so that I can work on the car in a reasonably clear space. I hate working over and around stuff.

HOTFR8 The TV in the shed has been great today, come to think of it, it is only on when the V8s are on as I usually just listen to the scanner in the background mostly.

rmalkow the A is a driving chassis, complete and really there is not a lot to go to finish it but I don't think I will have it ready this summer.

As usual like many projects its the last 10% that takes the most time, I am at that point now.

Everything looking so good!

Killinger, many thanks for dropping by and thanks for your kind comment and glad you have enjoyed.

Scanners are great toys. I have two in the shed and one in the house.
One in the Shed is dedicated C.F.A. and on all the time.

I enjoy listening to what is going on around me with the scanner, its better than reading the news papers some times. In fact I prefer it to having a radio on.

We have just had one huge thunderstorm here dumped an inch in 20 minutes more rain than we have had in months:thumbup:.

I did not get a lot done today in the Shed Down under, just set the new camshafts in the head of the MG F, Bathurst sort of took over, even Mrs 1/2 Cup was glued to it, in between her household chores and gave some very lets say in depth running commentary during the race.

My youngest, DIL and No.1 grandson are enjoying the delights of San Francisco at the moment so we are keeping in touch with their travels .

Have a good one guys.

1/2: ive yet to rebuild an engine or car, but even if i had i doubt it would look as nice as the work you do. You may have just replaced the welding table with the old car as my favorite. Both are awesome.

Good luck with the engine and it already is looking like new.

Sorry about my comments over the weekend - apparently a mod thought I was straying too far off topic and deleted them.

You're work on the A looks great - now I'll just sit back and watch. I've uninstalled Tapatalk.

Have fun

Thank you very much drives:thumbup::thumbup:

This engine will be a challenge, as I have never rebuilt a Rover K Series before and it is a very different type of construction to what I am used to so it will be a steep learning curve but there is heaps of info out there to assist me along the way.

Not an issue at all :thumbup: the mods do a great job.

I am really keen to get stuck into the A but I have just got to finish my Storage Solution and a few other projects first.

After getting some domestic type stuff (lawns and the like) out of the way this morning my eldest and I made a B line to my workplaces' mechanical workshop and ran the MG F K series engine through the hot bath then pressure hot washed every thing. Pretty pleased just how clean every thing came out.

Nearly ready to start to bolt things back together.

Have a great week end every one.

Parts are looking great! Nice job. I had a '63 Buick Skylark in high school with an all aluminum 215" V8. I polished everything in shop class. Teacher thought I was crazy. Looked about as nice as yours, Now the fun/work begins!

Wow! The Model A is going to be one sweet weekend cruiser.

Thanks Ric

There is just something about polished metal, it just looks sweet and like it is meant to be.

I have a fair bit of work to do on the head but I am looking forward to that as I haven't done one in a while and it will be my first aluminium one as well.

I can't wait to get back into the A. Mrs1/2 Cup keeps telling me its not about the destination it is about the journey so I have to keep reminding myself of that at times.

Again many thanks and have a great day.

Talking about storage solution, have you and the Mrs. decided on anything?

To be honest shorty there has been no decision on the Storage Solution as yet.
I have looked at endless options from modifying shipping containers, heavy duty garden sheds, storage lockers to portable cabins and are still procrastinating as to what will be fit for purpose.

1. There is not a lot out there that fits my space requirements without substantial modification which ever way you go.

2. I did not want to create another six month long project for myself.

3. Aesthetics are important as are weather proofing and security.

4. What ever the option it must be transportable and not a permanent structure therefore requires an integrated floor.

5. Custom built units to my specs were way to pricey when you crunch the numbers.

6. I am slowly leaning toward biting the bullet and building them myself ( refer to dot point 2 )

7. In terms of cost for the entire project and that's evaluating all options we are looking at between AU$6k for three cyclone rated storage lockers to $24K for three custom built units.

8. Building them my self, so there is no labor component and only materials will come in around $10k, drive away no more to pay ( refer to dot point 2 )

It has been a long time to get to this point but what ever we choose has to be the right decision the first time round and that's why I have tried to assess all my options first.

So that is where we are at now, decision time.:headscrat

Thanks for dropping by and asking the question.

Have a great day.

1/2 cup, you more than have the skills to build your own, you should look into that option some more. I built a garden shed at my last house and it was more than capable of surviving the crazy Oklahoma winds we get. It is 8'x16' and cost $1,700 and only took about 5 actual days of work to complete including a redo on the placement. I say build your own and you will be happy knowing you did and that you save a boat load of money compared to having someone else build it.

Thank you jb it is looking more likely that I will end up building them myself. When you look at it I will get exactly what I want, fit for purpose and not a compromise.

My wife keeps telling me, quoting in a nasally falsetto, "It's a process".:lol_hitti I think the two of them should quit talking to each other.

1/2: if you are taking a pole so you can show Mrs. 1/2 Cup i also think your homemade version of the storage would be far better than what you could buy. of course if life would be easier going the store bought way because of the council that might be your deciding factor.

can you make the 3 sides out of the brick you are finding at your friend's farm or maybe just the wall on the street side or would the council think that is a permanent structure? putting one a mature plant in an vintage pot or some antique in front of the brick wall to make it look like it's been there forever?

good luck

On the other hand... Yes, building it yourself will be satisfying and most likely give the best and most cost effective result. But would you rather be building storage containers or that beautiful Model A? I'll be in to see your work either way, and would love to see what you come up with on the storage front, but I've become increasingly aware of prioritising my time, as I am one (like you I suspect) who always has more projects on the go than time to complete them.

Guys, Thank you very much for all your encouragement and feed back, it is truly appreciated.
I will post a sketch of what my thoughts are over the weekend, to give every one a bit of a clearer picture of the Storage Solution should end up like.

Have a great day.

So is the K series going in the Model A? I know a guy with a tuned one in a Triumph spitfire and its mental, spends most of his time sideways!

Phil the K series engine is next years power plant for my eldest sons MG F . They are a very versatile engine, Lotus use them as well.

I think I would be stripped of my Model A Ford Club membership if it ended up in the A:lol_hitti

Don't leave us hanging!

Apologies Andrew, This weekend I have been a little side tracked. Mrs 1/2 Cup volunteered my services to one of her friends who shows dogs.

Her fold up show cart was in need of a make over, not that I need another project right now.;) but one does what one has to do at times.

So its getting new wheels, new floor and top, new rubber mats, new hinges, quite a few tack weld repairs and repaint.

I will get my concept sketch up today sometime.

Have a great day every one.
