Strike while the iron is hot, man!

Don't worry the thought has crossed my mind on more than one occasion, both homes are over priced for this area and they are both rentals with long term tenants that we have no issues with.
The one I really want is directly behind me that potentially I can double the shed size and have back street access, that is with a little clever strata titling. It would solve all my space issues and give a rental income as well.
I have put in an expression of interest, it is also a rental and the owners live a 5 hour drive away.

My new Dell Inspiron 17R note book arrived this week so I have just been setting it and the new 23 inch LED screen in the shed office. I think I am going to donate the old computer to the Smithsonian. This new one goes like a rocket.

An update on the bench seat build, painting complete and I have ordered the timber ( Victorian Ash to match the dining table) for the seat so that's next weekends project.

I also scored some more old cast iron hand wheels and threaded stems from the dumpster this week to add to the collection.

Just a question about your note book, what brand and where did you buy it? My old Dell is in a bad way, the frame that the hinges attach to is broken and the computer shop wanted $900 for a replacement frame, maybe time for a new unit.

Our house was built in 1949 and the clay for the bricks was quarried at a pit not 2 miles from here, locally they are known as "Shepp. Reds" and have rather unique characteristics and colour variations from a brownish, orange through to reds, later made bricks from the same pit were fired longer and at a higher temperature giving them even more colour variations.

Any paving or additions that I have done, such as the front fence, I have been able source second hand bricks of the same era to be sympathetic to the original home.

Apologies for lacking detail on the computer.

Its a Dell Inspiron 17R, 17 inch screen, 1 TB hard drive with 16GB of ram.

The repair costs of yours is well over half the price I paid for this unit. Time for a new one IMHO.

The company I work for has had Dells for years now and we don't have too many issues with them at all. Dell have an employee purchasing arrangement with us which offers some very comparable deals with what you can buy at your major retailers.

Loan heat gun to eldest son.

Eldest son drops heat gun from 6ft ladder on to concrete.

The heat gun as I once knew it, is no more.

Guess who brought a new replacement heat gun.

I finally found some castors on Ebay, they are an Australian made set of Fallshaw castors for my 1950s machinist stool i brought the other week.
They were listed as "used" but to me they look more like they have never been installed or used for that matter and whats more i paid the same as i would have in the big box stores for a cheap and inferior product.

Here are some more old tools. I am thinking 1900 - 1920 circa. These were my great Uncle Ed's tools. I also am putting them on my own thread. I have a lot more but thinking we better move all this to a "old tools" thread, so we don't ruffle any feathers.

1/2, I really liked the old tape measure. I just can't do much more with that as the tape is pretty fragile. I am sure the rasp is an old horseshoe one.
I did paint the handles on many of these, but as I say, they are mine and I am not into the "selling" of them. I hope you noticed the old level. It was hand made, and I also have the tool box which was also hand made. My Uncle Ed ran "Copeland Home and Hardware" back in the 1900s--to about 1930. This was the tools he made work calls at people's homes and farms with.

We might ask a Mod if this needs in a special thread.

There never seems to be enough time on the weekends to get what I need to get done, too many projects on the go at once I suspect.

This weekends agenda;
. Mrs 1/2 Cup is off to catch up with her mother down at Geelong, a 3 hour trip from here, on Sunday so I should get some productive shed time in.
. Mow lawns. (I am hoping it will rain to be honest)
. Pick up timber (an hour round trip to the saw mill) for the bench seat tops and I would really like to get a start on jointing them together.
. Weekly shed clean.
. Fit replacement jockey wheel on trailer.
. Walk Shelby.
. Replace the kitchen light fixture, long story (about 200 words) and not a simple task as it involves cutting plaster sheets and cutting ceiling battens to fit a recessed T8 2x36 watt unit.

. If this light works satisfactorily Mrs 1/2 Cup has strongly recommended that fitting another to match in the adjoining family room would be a great idea which means more cutting and dust every where. I have to admit she's right as per usual.

. The appliance inlet and plug arrived from the wholesalers this week this is for our future generator connection, this is one that goes on the backburner for a while until I get a few more of these other projects out of the way and when I upgrade the main switchboard, yet another work in progress.
The outlet is 415 volt AC and rated at 50 amps per phase, de contactor type you may also note that it has two additional contacts that are used for control and or an interlock purposes if required, I have not worked out the logistics yet but thought it was a good idea at the time.

I would not part with them for the world.
The rasp is most likely one a farrier would use on reshoeing a horse.
I did note the level, nice.
The screw driver with the wooden cap and removable bit is interesting as well, I have one very similar that was my grand fathers.

It may be worth posing the question to the Mods...

Unfortunately it did not rain Mike, so I ended up mowing the lawns anyway.
I have to admit to doing just that at times.

Those are some stout looking bench bases! I really like your welding table too. I've got a large stove fireplace insert that a friend gave me that I'm thinking would make a nice welding table. It's got a nice piece of plate on top of it. Something similar to your bench base would be perfect to set it on, with casters...

I really need portability with my benches and tables due to the limited space I have as It gives me great work space options.
I still have a little work to do on the Fabrication Table, draws and finishing touches but for the most part it really works well.

One step forward and two steps backward last weekend it seems.

. It didn't rain so I ended up mowing the lawns.
. The trip to pickup the timber for the bench seats did not eventuate.
. The new replacement tyre and rim for my trailer jockey wheel did not arrive, this is week two since I ordered it. getting
. The install of the 2 x 36 watt recessed kitchen light took longer than I had originally envisaged having to make some repairs to the drywall ceiling, but apart from touch up painting was largely completed much to Mrs 1/2 Cups delight on Saturday.
Our ceilings are 10 ft high so access into the roof space and manoeuvring around in a 60 year old home is a feat in itself.
. I also took on board Mrs 1/2 Cups recommendation that as the kitchen and family room are one that it would be prudent to replace the family room light with the same as the kitchen.
So Sunday was taken in cutting out the plaster and the ceiling joists as they ran in the opposite direction to where I needed to run the light, this also meant I had to install a support beam to pick up the joists that I had cut. Then I spent another 2 hours vacuuming up plaster dust and mopping floors.
Ordered the new fitting Monday, picked it up from the wholesalers and finished the install Tuesday after work.
We are absolutely stoked with the outcome and it looks great to boot.
