I had a great garage sale score yesterday, and are getting hard to come by out here and that is the good old fashioned Australian made wood screws ranging from 3/8 to 2 1/2 in. long, both brass and mild steel.
These are in packs of 144 ( 1 gross ) and that's something we haven't seen for 20 odd years.

Most of the packs were reasonably full and I paid a princely $5.00. for the lot.:)

P.S .I did not bother to much about haggling.

1/2 Cup,

Great score! Of course for $5 you've given yourself another project. I know you can't just leave that jumble of boxes alone. Hopefully you haven't filled all of
your spare part trays. Otherwise there's going to be another box of bins in your future:beer:....

I am slowly working towards getting my stuff in order, I would hate to total the hours spent just looking for the right nut, bolt, bracket that I thought I had but didn't really or could not find it. Frustrating!
I picked up a few more spare part trays last week to add to the collection in my quest to getting things into some semblance of order.

Now I know who to call if I need some hardware!

Thanks guys, it was only by chance that I stopped at the garage sale and ironically I was on my way to the hardware store as it was, but not to buy screws specifically.

Bob,
I am in Melbourne on Thursday and will be picking up some more spare parts boxes as it happens. There is nothing better than being able to put your hands on a part for a project with out rummaging through containers full of "stuff" I would like a dollar for every hour I have spent doing this over the years.
I am still inclined to leave all the screws in their original packaging though.

I still use these screws in my restoration work, if there one thing that cheeses me off is when you look at an old piece that's been nicely restored, open a door and then shock, horror Philips head screws have been used to fix the hinges on.:shocking:

Have a good one..

Yet another project done and dusted last night.

The 1960s machinist stool I brought on Ebay needed some castors to keep me upwardly mobile..

View media item 40474

I found a nice, nearly new set of Australian made Falshaw castors on Ebay a few weeks back.

Project summary..

1. The ride - smooth as.
2. Cornering - tends to over steer.
3. Braking - walking pace to full stop - 2 seconds,

Have a good one.

Hi 1/2 Cup

Shed going well. Hopefully will get some time out there today...

No major changes. Hopefully get the sparky back this week to finish the lights. Then I can continue lining the last wall.

I have already found the stool my go to place for sure and the castors have made it that much more useable:thumbup:

I intend to reupholster the matching Bendix high chair I have in the same vinyl.

I have found Bendix furniture from the 50s, 60s and 70s really well built, it for the most part has and will continue to stand the test of time:thumbup:

I started in earnest on the site civil works for the Storage solution and carport make over during the week end.

View media item 42027
Moved a cubic meter of top soil which I have used to top dress some of the lawns with, all by hand as I can't get a machine in to do it due to the limited access. I would has at a guess there would be at least another 3 cubic meters taking onto account the new carport footings.
The soil is very moist at the moment following some decent rains and reasonably easy to dig.

Cleared out most of the fernery plants.
Decommissioned the sprinkler system.
Moved the odd pebble or two which really tested the load limit on my trolley and my back as well.
Up lifted a few more brick pavers.

Have a great day..

Just a quick update on our Solar Installations' Performance, we recieved our first full quarterly ( April to July ) energy account Friday, keeping in mind it is mid winter here with short daylight hours, overcast and foggy days, we actually halved the bill from the same time time last year.
So i am one happy solar convert.

My guess would be some one got a free score and saved it after you tossed it out.

It wasn't me unfortunately.

Nice work with the manual labor!! keep up the great progress!!

Many thanks, its going to be a slow build as will be doing all but the concrete finishing. I will tackle small areas but not something this size.
Manual labour is right I was really feeling it Sunday night I can tell you, not only did I move a fair bit of soil bricks and rocks I also pruned all our roses including a climber that's 10ft up and 20 ft long then mowed the lawns just to cap off the weekend.

Regards.

Sometimes (not very often) you look at how much "inventory" you have and you realise some of it has to go, I also had 2 nice hyd draughtsman chairs on wheels so it was time for the old one to go, I didnt even think of passing it onto someone else.

Actually it went straight into the metal recycling dumpster.

whoo hoo, my first multi quote, had to look up how to do it though!

$75 each!!! Told her to replace the Kobalt seat cushion cover with a BUICK one and I want 4 for a garage warming present. She said "I'll put $10 in an interest earning savings account and probably by the time you get the garage finished we will have enough to buy them" sheeze, no respect I tell ya, no respect!!!!

I have a couple of old wooden draftsman chairs already so am not holding my breath for a new one of these.

I hear what you are saying Gazza, some times you just have " to lighten the load " so to speak.
Congratulation on your first multiquote. I took me a while to work it out too, but I had some outside help, my mentor HOTFR8 coaxed me through the process.

My wife just bought me one of those stools. I needed something to sit at my welding table on, the only problem is its a little to tall I guess I will have to cut the legs down a bit. You have done an outstanding job on this shed!

I picked up this nice 1950s explosion proof light fitting from a salvage yard earlier in the week, it sort of matches the bunker lights ( P34 #676 ) and is destined for the Storage Solution / Carport build.

On the to do list this weekend.

. More site civil work, digging out by hand that is, another trailer load of soil donated to a work colleague who kindly offered to take it off my hands.

. Fabricate column hold down bolt assemblies for the carport.

. Investigate drainage options I thinking of an in ground grated boxed gutter system right along the length of the carport as it should be relatively easy to integrate it into the existing storm water system.

Have a great weekend...

Not a whole heap to post on this week as work has been my main focus with a number of capital upgrade projects at the commissioning stage all at one time as it happens with several more projects at the project brief and development of the technical specification stage, for the most part are Irrigation pump station upgrades.

The Storage Solution / Carport build.

. The site excavation work has been continuing by hand with three 5 x 7 trailer loads of soil being removed thus far and potentially there will be another load by the time I complete the footings.

. Finished removing all the brick pavers, cleaned and stacked the bricks.

. A hardware store run yesterday morning i picked up the drainage guttering, some storm water fittings, column post caps, purlin cleats and some 3/4 allthread for the foundation bolts.

I think I spent more time running into people I know and as you do, have a chat and before you know it the best part of Saturday has gone.

View media item 42374

The Fabrication Bench build.

. I finally dug out some sheets of (16# and 18#)stainless steel that I have had stored for a number years to finish the six draws and end infill panels for the bench, my eldest son has taken them to get cut to size. The bench has really proven its worth thus far but its like every thing around here I really want it finished and close the project out finally.

I should see my new 200 amp AC/DC Tig welder his week, a full 5 weeks after I brought it, any way when I purchased it the trolley was a back order item and I said at the time I was happy to wait until the order was complete so it could be shipped all together, the company I purchased it from have been great.

In the mean time I picked up a new welding helmet last week that should compliment the new outfit and as my son said it brings me into the 21st century and I can ditch the old flip fronts.

View media item 41971

We have always had a scramble for USB chargers around here so when I saw that Clipsal had added an inbuilt one to their range recently I picked up two, one for the shed and one for the family room which should sort things out once and for all.
