The notorious K Series headgasket failure - are they really that bad or is it just a problem with the way its mounted in the F causing them to crack the sads? Are you guys running it in a particular class like IPRA or just with a club/on open track days? I eventually plan to dig one of the Geminis out from dads garage and go racing....have looked at the IPRA rule book but the costs involved!!! :shocking:

Nick-

Oh yeah, nailed it in one.

I think we have the leak beat, a track day should sort that. I checked and reset the head bolts to the maximum tension that they were originally set to as they are a stretch bolt and use a angular setting. Found one bolt that was not consistent, resety then added some Seal tite.

The injectors have been recalibrated and with a new set of plugs "appears to be running a treat"

The car is mostly run on track days and club events like the Rob Roy hill climb.

It can be a costly enterprise running a race car as my son is now discovering.

Have a great day...

1/2: those little guys are awesome. funny and great post sir.

here's a few US Open pictures from my day. it was about 90 degrees and there is only one tree on this entire course so i was a tad hot to say the least.

Tiger just finished playing when i arrived with my friends and we (mostly on my call) followed him over to the range. the guy shoots 85 a couple weeks ago and there were 6 people in the stands behind the range watching some other well known names and when Tiger stopped to hit a few balls about 300 fans filled the stands. i ended the 8 hour day out there watching Jordon Speith just miss making an 80 footer. Also watched Bubba and Ricky play a few holes together with Butch Harmon walking along beside them.

the views and the sun were pretty nice so hope you don't mind me cluttering up your thread with a few.

cheers and i can see those little ones taking over 1/2's garage and home totally soon when you remove the cage for good.

Thanks for posting drives, great pictures, awesome scenery and sounds like you had a great day.

The little critters pretty much rule the roost now.

What a Ham. Great picture.
I like the old lamp too. I need to find something like that retro style for small tasks at the bench.

Thanks akdiesel

I have to admit not to being a retro fan, but some things just grab you eye as a nice thing and this was certainly one of those EBAY moments.

Have a great day every one:thumbup:

1/2: while you are watching the US Open here's my pics for the winner. Henrik Stenson would be my pick from the players i saw play. of course if Phil and Tiger or even Jordon Speith won i wouldn't be upset. my 2 cents. all the golfers have talent don't get me wrong, but the winner will need to hit it so high to hold a green and also be a long hitter and Henrik fits the bill.

this kid is my wild card: Brooks Koepka

cheers and hope you are having fun with the crew of furry ones.

Drives, there is a few strong contenders in this years U.S. open for sure. Speith will be a strong contender and Rory McIlroy won't be far from the lead as well.
Not forgetting a few of our fellow Aussies that should put up a good show as well.

The rodents are doing fine and keeping us on out toes, I intend to get that one in a hundred picture of them this week end..........hopefully.

1/2: i just heard that Stenson's caddy fell and broke his wrist yesterday. i do like is game, but having a caddy with a bad wing probably will take it's toll. this is not an easy walking course.

So Adam Scott can't decide which putter to use, but he has a great swing. Jason Day seems to be just under the radar so maybe he's ready. I saw Ogilvy play a few holes and he still has a nice swing. Marc Leishman is a player I've always liked because he just smiles and takes care of business. you do have 8 Aussies in the field and 9 if you count Danny Lee. they are all good players and this golf course is definitely not common in the US.

i can't see where you have time to play with all the things you have going on, but if you ever want to just let me know and i'll give you some helpful swing tips. i probably forgot more about golf than some of the kids in the field know and i doubt any of them have hit a persimmon wood driver.

cheers and just for you "Go Aussies"

Drives, your right I don't have time to play but I do enjoy watching the broadcast.

Golf is one sport I could get hooked on very easily.

I see Jason Day had a dizzy spell or vertigo this round, apparently he has had similar issues over the last few years.

Great looking collection.

I've been looking for an old fan, but everything I find is shot, or way over priced.

Love the way they look, and sound.

1/2: i also have a couple cool old scales and fans, but i doubt they are as cool looking or as in good of condition as yours. very nice.:thumbup:

I think Stenson's caddy breaking his wrist the day prior to the tournament is a bit too much to overcome so i'm guessing Dustin will hold the trophy tonight. i certainly won't be unhappy if Jordon wins though and continues his quest for the season grand slam.

cheers

Cool use of the scales. I have two fans like that if they weren't stolen. I will need one for my shop office.
This little guy is something. I wonder if he/she is the same one lay back in the previous picture you posted.

Ooohhh I love those fans.

Great collection of scales and fans  A fan like that is on my want list too :)

Scales are cool.

I do love the fans, due to the nature of man, they obviously mostly get thrown out, so it is rare to see them about these days.

Cool fans!

Great looking fans. I really like the first one that pivots between the grab handle.

Those are "cool" fans.

Jordon did well, great tournament. Jason fell away, but good effort just the same.

Shorty, yes one and the same the little boy tends to lay and sleep on his back a lot.

Thanks guys, appreciated

We tend to use our antiques as house props where we can, Mrs 1/2 cup has a real eye for detail and is constantly rotating stuff around.

The next instalment will be our collection of cast iron electric heaters.

Have a great day guys.

1/2: Yes the US Open was fun to watch and it's been a few years since I've watched all of Saturday's and Sunday's play. there is a reason that I've only played that course one time since it opened and it's not just because of the cost of a green fee which is pretty reasonable for the views and challenge.

the pros might not have had perfect greens and probably because we've had 20 degree warmer weather this year, but i can flat guarantee that the pros wouldn't have wanted to play it very much the last few years while the greens were getting ready for the Open.

it sure finished with the players that could hit shots and handle some adversity and it was fun to watch. Jordon is some kinda player and more importantly a good person.

now if you ever do have time to start playing here's your first golf tip and more to come if you ask. good balance and posture are a key, chin up and eyes down so you can take a full shoulder turn back and through and if you are swinging right handed strengthen up your left arm because that is the one you want to use to take the club back so you are not chopping wood. it's a fun, challenging game and i haven't played in a few years while i get my new business or life figured out, but i'll always love the challenge and i shot a 64 with persimmon woods and golf balls that were out of round with 2 drives back in 1972 and on a par 72 course. i gave Freddie Couples 2 shots per 9 holes when he was whipping everybody else in his age group because i'm 3 years older than he is.

PM me if you want to hear golf stories via email instead of on your thread or i'm happy to post up some once in a while. those tips above will work for anybody and not just 1/2 or beginners and i still work on my posture and balance first if i'm having issues.

i know i couldn't afford one of your puppies even if you were to sell one, but it's been since 2008 when our last dog passed that I've even thought about getting another one. here's Taffy we had from 2 months until she was 13 years old.

Drives Thank you very much for your Golfing tips, some wise advice for sure, duly noted and they would be worthy of a thread all of there own as I am sure there would be many members that are keen golfers.

I have to agree good balance and posture are so very important.

Playing with Freddie Couples, WOW what an experience.

It looks like Jordan is getting an invite for the Australian open.

Taffy would have been a huge part of your lives and you miss them like crazy when they pass away. Having a dog can be is fantastic and they are great company.

At this stage Mrs 1/2 Cup will get one of the pups to keep to show, the male will go to the breeder to show as well and the other two girls will go to new homes in a few weeks time, potentially to show as well.

Denwood, thanks for dropping by. The little guys are doing great and we have really enjoyed their antics as they are getting very active now.

I will post some new pictures of them in action over the weekend.

Have a great day guys.

1/2: Been about 40 years since i played with Freddy. i moved out of my parent's home when i was 18 and quit playing golf for about 5 years. Nicklaus was only making $100,000 per year so not a lot of money in golf back then. I've always loved it even if i was taking a few years off to either work, raise 5 kids or just figure out what i want to do when i get old like now.

great plan for the pups and sorry so many have to leave home, but i'm sure you'll have your hands full with the ones that stay.

any plans on the shop or carport figured out to post or like i mentioned several posts ago you do deserve a few more days rest. also you need time to find all those beers the guys are talking about.

take care and i did start a GOLF 101 thread if you want to post on it with your positive thoughts.

cheers

Drives, great start on the golfing thread:thumbup:

Nines many thanks.

The pups are keeping us busy and are just full on. I will post some more pics later this weekend.

The Carport is basically finished apart from some, lets say jewellery, it looks like I have scored some big blue stone building blocks that were mined and hand finished in the late 1800s that will become some what of a feature, more on that later.

I still have a load or two of old bricks to pick up in the next week or so from the pile of spoil and rubble at my mates farm. These will ultimately end up in the brick wall I am doing to close in the front of the carport

View media item 50891
I have started the ball rolling on the Storage Solution for the side of the carport which will consist of three cut down shipping containers to fit the available space where the fernery was. I hope to have them here in the next month or so.

View media item 50051
This will free up a considerable amount of room in the shop.

Other happenings around here at the moment:

My eldest in his infinite wisdom has purchased two split system air conditioners and Mrs 1/2 Cup has kindly offered my services to install them for him. The one bonus is that the install was conditional on my purchase of a new vac pump and HVAC gauges.;)

Still fiddling around with the new Industrial style dinning table build as I get a moment or two.

Still waiting on my stainless drawer fronts and drawer cases for the under bench setup, I should have done them my self, but that's life sometimes.

Work, the end of the financial year is looming so I have been up to my ears in crunching numbers for the bean counters on my Capital Works projects I have on the go .

To top that off I received a phone call from my boss out of the blue on Thursday 11.30 am, keep in mind I was two hours drive from my office and on site at the time. He said I need you to go to Canberra ( our nations Capital Territory and a six hour drive from here ) today for a 2 hour meeting and electrical inspection on Friday.

http://visitcanberra.com.au/#!whats-on-tab-button

Two hours back to home and pack, six hours to Canberra stay over night, two meetings Friday and six hours back home last night. So I am a little travel weary at the moment.

Have a great week end guys.

1/2: thanks for the well wishes on the new Golf thread and we'll see how it goes. so far a few members have stopped in while i'm starting on telling 40 years worth of information I've gathered at a fairly high level. stop in and tell a story, ask a question or agree or disagree if you like.

did i just read that you drove 14 hours in about a 24 hour time period? i'm not sure i can do that very often anymore. i have driven from Seattle to Las Vegas in 20 hours only stopping for gas when i was younger and that was without a cell phone or email or gps so how the heck did i survive.

just curious how your freeways and roads are in your area? two lane, 4 lane, speed limit and do you drive on the wrong side of the road like the English do? i used to pick up books on CD's in the early 2000's from the library or buy them to pop in my CD player so for long business trips which helped the time fly by. Have you tried that or do you have GJ on voice command to make posts as you drive?

sounds like you have great plans so i'm here for the long haul at whatever pace you choose to do them.

have a great weekend.

Are you using the "recycled" bricks in order to save costs or to get the aged look straight out?

When I did my mini split, it wasn't to bad at all. Just make sure the line set you get is the correct length for the factory charge, or you'll have to add/remove coolant accordingly.

Now that sounds interesting. :headscrat

The containers will be shortened from 10ft long to about six foot to fit the available space, I have to admit to being a bit nervous as to just how they will look, but should tie in to the overall industrial theme of the Carport
Watch this space HOTFR8:thumbup:

DrivesYou are correct, about 14 hours in total. Part of that time I shared with one of our engineers who had brought his I pod along for the trip with a great selection of music. We stopped every two hours or so just to take a break.

Here is Go pro version of the trip that will give you some idea of the road and scenery.

Its a relatively easy drive, with good road conditions and double lanes. I just set the cruise control to the limit of 110 kms/ hr ( around 70 mph )

The Hume Highway is often called our Route 66.

BTW. We do drive on the wrong side of the road.:lol_hitti

Rian, many thanks for dropping by.

In regards to the bricks, second hand bricks of this vintage out here are quite often dearer than new ones and getting harder to get.

I am pretty keen to keep all my brick works true to the era of the home and when I was offered these I jumped at the opportunity to grab them.

Thanks Coop, the line set on both units is not to long and well within the limits of the factory charge. I will check the pressures on commissioning with my new gauge set. ( Mrs 1/2 Cup has kindly agreed to the fact that I do need a new set. );)

As promised I took a happy snap of our Electric Fires and footwarmer collection to share.

These were made by Hecla in Australia and all function well although we do not use them.

I also picked up a genuine NOS replacement element off EBAY some time back.

Have a great week end guys and thanks for dropping by.

Foot warmer must be a bit of a rarity....??

Looks lovely though.

Hard to believe you would ever need it in Oz though.

Just off to what could be a scorching boot fair, then out on the bike to an auto jumble, then a bike show later afternoon.
