1/2: might save you a lot of work. it looks like something you would build from scratch and you already have the supports. worth a second thought if you can get the sizing to work.

so if you have your choice would you go to a show with 1000 dogs with Mrs. 1/2 or a car show with your kids and family? sounds like the little ones are going to be stars and they have great custodians to take care of them.

did i see the new mig welder is on it's way or has it arrived at the Shed?

cheers

I'm seriously jealous of the Unimig Tig... Debating on splurging on one come tax refund time... not that I have ever tigged before (not that it stopped me with the mig). Any insight as to why you chose the Unimig over others?

Will it need council approval ? If NO go for it.

Let me put it this way HOTFR8, I am pushing the envelope here in terms of what is considered as requiring a permit.;)

drives, it will save a heap of work an I am evaluating all my options for the build at the moment and this option does tick a lot of boxes.

One has to do what one has to do and it is all about getting that balance right when it comes to a relationship, but I did enjoy the show.
To that end Mrs 1/2 Cup is making the drive to Melbourne for me to pick up yet another impulsive EBAY purchase I made.

Busy as always I see! I look forward to seeing what you settle on for your storage solution.

Thanks for dropping by Andrew, yep there is a bit on at the moment but that's pretty normal around here. On a side note my eldest took his MGF to Philip Island the other weekend, first time out there and did 2 7s, one fantastic effort.

Thanks for dropping by Nursepeter The UNIMIG has some pretty good reviews and a couple of my mates have them and are really pleased with there performance.
They have all the functionality that I need plus some.

The new MIG arrived yesterday so I am one happy chappy at the moment.:D

I still have a bit of set up to do as its 240 volt and requires a 32 amp outlet which is not that common out here, so I am modifying a 415 volt socket outlet that has the capacity to do the job off one phase.

Have a great weekend every one..

Sub: not only does have great stuff to show us he also has a great group of guys on his thread and happy to see you show up too.

1/2: i agree with the happy wife, happy life theory and happy to hear the dog show wasn't torture for you. i bet your wife is having the time of her life with a champion and two puppies with the best blood lines in the world.

so one of those welders is a Mig and the other one is a Tig? some day i "will" be able to tell the difference. sounds like you are a happy camper and now all you need is something to break or some new steel to show up so you can test it out.

have a great weekend

Envelopes should not be to hard to push. Still good luck with it.

Thank you HOTFR8, its always good to have a plan B;)

Just wanted to stop by and say great thread,

I skipped around a bit on it

Gonna put this on my read from beginning list.

Many thanks for dropping by sublime68charger
and kind comments, there is a fair bit of content here on reflection, I trust you will enjoy the read.

drives, thanks once again:thumbup:

Mrs 1/2 Cup is over the moon with the pups for sure. The breeder has just imported a world class Australian Silky Terrier from Finland of all places for 12 months so it looks like we may see another generation of champions in the near future:thumbup:

Test drove the new MIG today and wow its just the ants pants, I can actually make the welder work for me rather than fighting with wire speeds and settings like I was doing with the old unit.

Off to my mates farm tomorrow to pick up another trailer load of used bricks that suit our house, while they are there for the taking I am on to it. We can pay up to $1.50 for a second hand brick of this vintage around here.

Have a good one guys and thanks again for dropping by.

I did try to down load some pics of the results of my brick gathering foray today.

I have just upgraded to Windows 10 and thus far are pretty happy with it but it is not particularly backward compatible to my Fuji camera and Finepics software.

Fuji are working on a patch so it looks like I will have to upload my images at work for the time being.

180 bricks and some old horse drawn wagon bits were excavated, watch this space.

Have a good one guys.

Looking forward to seeing the results of this! Gotta love old horse drawn wagon bits!

Looking forward to seeing the pictures!

Thanks guys.

At my mates new farm where I have been retrieving the second hand bricks from we discovered other rather obscure mound in the hay shed yard that was covered in grass with the odd brick visible so we decided to excavate the area by hand and it yielded some 180 full bricks, all clean ones at that.

Amongst the grass we found the remains of a horse drawn wagon that included an axle that was a two man lift, a couple of cast iron axle hubs, a steel ring that was from a timber hub and various black smith made wagon fittings. A nice little bonus, I don't believe Mrs 1/2 Cup shared my sentiment by the roll of her eyes when I got home.

I didn't touch the big pile that I got my first lot of bricks from at all, I am leaving that until next weekend.

I grabbed a happy snap of the little rodents last night, butter wouldn't melt in their mouths.

And drives if you read this I can now practice my putting on the front lawn due to the hole the little rodents dug for me.

Have a great day every one.

Interesting find of all the wagon artifacts. And you really want us to believe those innocent looking little pup eyes could dig up your lawn or cause any trouble? My back does not envy you loading all those bricks.

1/2: i really make it a point to read your posts and at least comment with a big thumbs up because i can't recall a bad one since I've been watching your thread.

funny Mrs. 1/2 didn't like the spare parts for an old wagon so maybe you need to have an offsite storage unit or fenced piece to store your cool stuff at.

great picture of the twins.

funny you mention the hole in the yard story. i could never get our grass cut short enough at my parent's and cousin's houses to use a putter to putt to the holes WE made. so we all had to use a wedge or a nine iron to hole out our shots. just an FYI that i was maybe the best chipper in my age group in the state until i graduated from high school and quit the game for a few years while i was figuring out how to survive in life. it's great practice if you don't need to fill it right away. just saying. :)

nice find on the bricks too and i'm thinking you might have a few hundred more buried in that old dirt pile. hope you are not too sore.

That's a really nice haul.

I completely get the enjoyment of the wagon bits, hell, I love finding old nails, and anvil bits in my garden that I have no use for. Remember the 10" tall cross I made with the wood found on the river bank and the 8" one found in the garden?
I suspect you could be sitting on the makings of another resto-build for the future.

The bricks are great, as they are fully aged already and once washed and dried will make for a lovely piece of work.

rmalkow, I believe there will be a few more bits and pieces yet to be found.

The pups already have a long list of misdemeanors to there credit and they include but are not limited to the following:

Chewed - plug in charger lead for the phone, the plug and lead for our gas heater, timber cloths airer legs, climbing rose trunk as well as numerous pot holes in the garden.

My back was ok doing all those bricks but I sure gave my tennis elbow a work out, good exercise I must add.

A bonus for sure. All worth big money if in good order.

I will add the bits to something I create, but for the moment lets consider them garden art.

Shelby gets very possessive about her toys so its a good chance you would not get them back HOTFR8 she even buries the rodents toys out of spite.:lol_hitti

drives, thank you and I really appreciate the feedback.

Mrs 1/2 Cup understands my passions whether she agrees is an entirely different matter. Your right offsite storage may be an option. A point to ponder??

The pups have their second show Saturday and they are both doing well or be it a little to creative.

I am not filling the hole in, just as soon as I do they will dig it out again so it may become a permanent feature.

My eldest has a roundabout drive way and the centre lawn section is actually an old green from a local golf club, looks great.

I believe you are right there will be at least another 2-300 bricks to go in the original pile.

Thanks Rian I am starting to amass quite bit of like that, I love it and the thing is it is disappearing rapidly and getting harder to get.

I do remember your cross and resto build is it for sure.

The bricks do clean up well and blend nicely into what we already have.

Did I miss what you're going to use the bricks for?

xtremek, the bricks are mainly used for paving around the house and I will be using some for the front of the carport to close it in with a brick wall and maybe some garden bed in to the future..

Old timers must have thrown away wagons like we throw away VN Commodores. I've found about 5 wagon remains under various trees around my farm. Not much of the wood left which is probably why I'm still finding bits 7 years later.

I will bet the VN bits don't last as long the wagon bits Playwme.

Most of the timber work on the wagon had gone either rotted or eaten by termites under some Peppercorn trees. The one thing I regret was not recovering as much as I could before the trees were all bulldozed and the site leveled by a 20 ton excavator, there is a pile of stuff buried in a heap that is about 20 mt long x 20mt wide and about 6 mt high and the plan is to have a pizza, beer and bonfire night in the near future so I may still recover some more metal antiquities down the track.

Thanks for dropping by and stay tuned.

Great score on the bricks

Thank you hewey

Second hand bricks of this vintage cost as much if not more than new ones around here and if I didn't take them they would have ended up as land fill.
It has been worth the effort and there is still more to be unearthed, my mate has just purchased a tractor and bucket for the farm so I will be making good use of that on the remaining pile of dirt and bricks I can tell you.

Sounds good!

I had a similar score a couple of months back, drove past a place in Sydney's North Shore with a bunch of sandstone on the nature strip. Knocked on the door to check if they were in fact getting rid of it, and that it wasn't just a delivery they hadn't taken in yet. It was a beautiful old house, they were doing reno work and the sandstone was from the foundations of the bathroom. The house was built in 1912 - the same year the Titanic sank. They were just happy to see it go to a good home. It was an hour and a half each way from our place, we did two trips back to back and got home at 1am! It'll be used as steps as part of the landscaping I do for my sheds. Edit: Just found the real estate listing, that house with the reno work sold for $3M http://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-nsw-pymble-120233329

A good effort indeed! I spent much of Saturday with my brother pulling apart the interior in his MG ZS, helping him with chasing some wiring gremlins. Damn modern cars are much too complicated - my Midget has 2 fuses and about 15 wires in the entire car (1 page wiring diagram), the ZS has two separate fuse boxes with 40 odd fuses and more pages of wiring diagrams than I can count!

I am hearing you on the wiring issue, the MG F is no different.

We are taking the F to Winton tomorrow for the Marque Sports Car Club - Super Sprint event, the weather is looking a little better so it should be a good day out.

My eldest has just brought a used motor and gear box as a spare so I now have another project on the too do list: one race engine an gearbox for the MG F. Like your list mine is just getting longer.

drives I will post a picture of the green in his round about for sure.

I have not had much of a chance to use the welder at all it has been a little hectic around here with work of late. I am on to my second tank of fuel for the week. :eyecrazy:

I was up at Swan Hill yesterday ( 5 hour drive return ) stating to commission a new pump station for operation this irrigation season.
Interestingly it is near a place called Lake Boga that was a repair facility for flying boats during WW2 and there is a meuseum and many old buildings from that period still remaining.

Earlier in the week I was in Gisborne ( 4 1/2 hour drive return) ( HOTFR8 country ) for a funeral and returned home via Melbourne.
Its a nice part of our state.

Mrs 1/2 Cup is showing the pups today in Melbourne as you do.

And then across to Winton tomorrow of course.

The car never gets a chance to cool off around here.;)

Love that brick work. Not sure the life span of bricks but I would imagine they outlive us unless they are exposed to some types of moisture or chemicals.

Thank you akdiesel:thumbup:

I think the bricks will out live me, our soils are pretty good here and they have been layed on a firm base of crushed rock fines with a dry mix of cement and sand broomed in to fill the joints, then lightly sprayed with water.
They are nice and solid under foot.

That brick walk looks sweet, love the added detail down the middle too!!

nines I have a real liking to using bricks as paving and I have tried to keep that same theme right around our home.

The centre detail is grey concrete pavers with 3/4 crushed blue stone.

Nice brickwork!

Thanks for dropping by jon04:thumbup:

I am off to Winton Motor Raceway ( link above #1908 ) this morning to crew with my sons MGF at the Super Sprints.

On another note Mrs 1/2 Cup took out "Baby in Group" yesterday with Jackie the female pup, so she is pretty stoked with how both of them performed in the show ring.
There were 1200 entries in 7 groups on the day.

Have a great week end guys.

What a great read, took me a good many evenings to get through it all. Interested to see how you put all those plastic storage containers to use, I've been trying to get all my assortment of screws and bolts sorted in the last week of evenings - much better now but will likely need a future edit.

How's the storage solution coming along? That looks real interesting.

Cheers

1/2: tell Mrs. 1/2 congrats on Jackie's win. i can't remember if you told us the twins names so what is Jackie's sister's name? were both the girls competing and just Jackie won the prize?

looks like you might want to tape the golf tomorrow if you are on the pit crew because been a while since an Aussie won a major. that's if Jason can hold off Jordan on his amazing run.

Hoping you have fun and a safe day at the races tomorrow.

cheers

Many thanks for dropping by Grumblebum, that's a fair effort to get through reading my entire thread, I trust that you can take something away from it.
My plastic containers have been a godsend and I have brought more since those pics were taken.
30 plus years of stuff in icecream and Chinese takeaway containers was no fun so I started on a mission to get things in order in the shed, still a bit to go mind you.
Yours are looking fantastic.

Not much movement on the Storage Solution front we are just evaluating Mrs 1/2 Cups latest options at the moment.
She is looking at the "She Shed Downunder" for all her stuff and mind you there is commercial quantities of it. So we are still tossing around ideas at the moment.

Drives I have passed on your congratulations to Mrs 1/2 Cup and many thanks.
We have one female Pup - Jackie and one male Pup - Stevie left here. The irony is that one of the other females from the litter won the exact same class in Perth Western Australia yesterday as well, so good work all round.

The Aussies are doing great and it would be fantastic to see a Major for Downunder, our cricketers bombed out in the Ashes in England last week.

Top day over at Winton, my son beat his PB and the previous owners best by 2 seconds ( 1 min 50.1 secs ) so he is pretty stoked with his performance and the car went well.:3gears:

Many thanks for dropping by drives

Apologies for no pictures Fuji still have not come up with a software patch for Windows 10 as yet. Looks like I will have to download them at work again..
