What a time to have a holiday 1/2 Cup (school holidays).
I'm sure with your many projects it will fly.
I think Shelby loves having you home and in the garage.
Have a great break 1/2 Cup.

Two weeks off to just play around, that sounds like a good time and I'm sure you'll get plenty knocked off of your list. Now about that 6 months leave, after the first couple you will have to find more projects as you'll probably get every one of your current projects done including the model T ;).
JB

Edit: We posted at the same time, I'm interested in that solar electrolysis system you have brewing be sure and post lots of info about it please.

Thanks for dropping by JB

My dad called in to the Shed today and said when are you going to get the Model A finished? I couldn't give him an answer, so much stuff just gets prioritised ahead of restoration at this point.

There has been thread after thread on electrolysis baths so I thought I would try something different, most guys use battery chargers and the panel I have is a 90 watt unit and outputs approx. 6 amps at 19 volts, couple that with a solar regulator down to 12 volts I think should do the trick.

Earlier this year I brought an old block and tackle on Ebay that will be my crash test dummy in the bath.

That block and tackle should clean up nice! Looking forward to seeing how your solar set up works. You don't need a lot of amps to get the process going. Just remember, less amps, more time....

1/2: i'm still trying to make a permanent E tank and use some of the research i learned asking more questions than most on this Homemade Electrolysis thread we made last year.

if you need any information it most likely is covered in this thread and if not just ask. since you are the first solor powered E tank maybe if you have time t post up a few pictures and your comments on the thread would be great. or ask questions there because all the members are still around to help.

cheers and best of luck

BTW your Aussie boy Jason is playing some serious golf so far this week and might be #1 after this week or next.

Thank you ajohno, I couldn't get Shelby out of the garage last night, she usually does not hesitate to go it to her kennel however it took a lot of coaxing with treats to finally make her move.

Great work 1/2 cup, we are all going to be waiting for your daily progress reports you know that don't you...

Cheers Grumblebum.

Understood and can do Grumblebum

Coop, the solar reg I have or be it older technology now has some smarts and a digital display, there is going to be a bit of trial and error at the start but I have heaps of rusty metal to play with.

Solar powered E-bath. Great idea and I can't wait to see how it works out. You may just start a new fad!

rmalkow I will give the idea a go, it is something that has been ticking over in this pea brain for a while now.

Jason is on fire at the moment and appears to have over come his vertigo or at least is managing it well. 20 under is not to shabby.

Our walk today took us to an ornamental lake just near home, Shelby the garage guardian has this love - hate relationship with a resident local Black Swan.

I mentioned a few posts back that Mrs 1/2 Cup went to Melbourne a few weeks back to pick up another Bendix chair ( in the middle ) that I scored for $ 40 on Ebay. I would like another stool to match and then I will get them all recovered to suit the Shed Downunders décor.

Bendix made these in the mid century and will outlast anything you can buy today, great in the shed.

1/2 Cup, I am certain you work really hard at your paying job but I'm guessing that in about 2 weeks you'll be ready to go back to work to recover from all this "free time". :D

Love the stool and chairs. I have some rugged ones that I picked up, they are not originals, but good copies. I would say they will last me a lifetime and then some.

I too am interested in the solar powered e-tank.

I will be checking in to see how much work you get done on your vacation.

Strouty The chairs an stools are fantastic for the shed and I am looking forward to having them reupholstered when I find a matching stool on Ebay.

I will keep updating as I progress with the solar e-tank, I believe it has some potential and I hope it works well.

Day 3 of my leave will be to get some of those 1/2 Cup do s out of the road for Mrs 1/2 Cup.

Have a great day every one..

I just can't help my self some times, in between the 1/2 Cup do s

I have been tinkering around with the Solar Powered Electrolysis Tank.

Mounted the reg and threw some wires in place, more of a proof of concept than any thing.

It fired up nicely just charging a battery, I wiil be using the switched load function on the E tank.

Push that yellow button and show us (or tell us) the input charge.

HOTFR8 Unfortunately the battery was already charged and only running at .5 amp. With the PL 20 regulator you need a battery in circuit to fire it up and that then allows you to alter the factory default settings.

I guess next on the agenda will be a stand and the E tank set up, not to day though as I have a list of things to do.

. Remove and clean 3 exhaust fans.
. Replace a few lamps with LEDs
. Clean ceiling fans.

If you plug something into the battery and say charge your mobile phone the controller should say what sort of charge it is putting into the battery. Mine is showing 2.4 charge even with the batteries showing at 13.5 volts for example on my UPS Office Solar system. Oh, adding it is a dull day here.

Edited Note: As for the fan cleaning that can be a dusty job. Try Diggers with Methylated Spirits and Vanilla leaves a nice smell after. Spray on and wipe off.

1/2: Even the the simple things you do such as a little electrical tape putting a couple wires together are terrific. looks like a nice power set up and looking forward to seeing the full view pictures and hearing about your results.

1/2 Cup,
Shelby is such a fine looking shepherd dog, I have always liked the breed. Is she an inside dog? If so, is there a lot of shedding with her coat?

Have a look at the other 'Flavours' as well. I have seen others.

The vanilla it is HOTFR8, but knowing Mrs 1/2 Cup we will have the full range in time. Great stuff.

Thank you very much drives I must say my OCD kicks in when I work with wires.

Shelby was in a bit of a face off with the swan, she did not bark but swan hissed at her which got her attention big time. She certainly has some pulling power but pretty good on a lead.

1/2 Cup,

Hef, Shelby is a great dog, very rarely inside as she tends to muck up a bit. Belgium's are a very high drive by nature and demand attention all the time.

She does shed hair big time when she loses her winter coat, she loves a daily brush and that helps.

Vacation time. Awesome. Look forward to your great idea on a solar powered e-tank.

Loving it shorty.

I am a little keen to see how it goes now that I have gotten this far. Mrs 1/2 Cup reminded me yesterday that I have a lot in front of me when she saw what I was doing.:headscrat

I made a quick trip to Melbourne ( 3 hours there and back ) this morning to check out these cabins for the Storage Solution

http://www.agcab.com/

Wait there is more to this story Mrs 1/2 Cup now wants one as a craft room.
That's on top of the Storage Solution requirements.:shocking:

I am running out of real estate fast.

Have a good one.

A bit of an update ( nothing real picture worthy ) over the past week.

. Still tossing around ideas for the Storage Solution the last week as given me a chance to reflect on things a bit more in depth in terms of what's required for both the storage and Mrs 1/2 Cups Craft room.

. Wired up a socket outlet to power our existing network hub and National Broad Band fibre install which shouldn't be that far down the track. It has been run of an extension lead and power board for years.

. Finished of our internal structured phone/data cabling and tidied up the Network hub, another job that I have been meaning to do for some time now.

. Serviced the Mustang.

Victa Mustang lawn mower that is.

New blades, air filter and spark plug ready for the season ahead.

View media item 37136

. A random act of kindness for one of our neighbours just to test the new mower blades out. This lady has gone through some tough times of late, firstly losing her husband a few years back, Sister in law passing soon after, her son in laws tragic passing a month ago and a brother in law passing last week at 90.
Her lawns were looking in need of attention, so while she was at work I did the front lawns and nature strip and after asking all the other neighbours who had done her lawns she came across and was very much appreciative of my efforts. Its a great feeling when you can help some one in need.

. Detailed my lawns and edges as well, it amazing what a difference new blades make.

. Replaced some CFL lamps with new LEDS and they work real well I am pleased to say.

. Working progressively to get the 1/2 Cup do s out of the way for Mrs 1/2 Cup.

. Replaced faulty smoke detector.

. Daily walks with Shelby, she has been great in the shed with me home.

. More stuff arrived this week from the UK for the MG F engine build, we now have most of the bottom end parts here. In between breaks I have been doing some prep work on the block to get it ready for hot tanking next week with all the reciprocating bits heading off to be balanced and new pistons fitted to the rods as well.
I stripped the new oil pump to do some flow mods and was glad that I did as one of the o ring seals had been crushed on assembly and this is an OEM part and would have leaked like hell. Lesson learned always check.

Anyway that's all that comes to mind at the moment, have a great day everyone.

OK...... Now I can reply too.

In South Africa my dad always kept Victa lawn mowers, in fact he only had two ove all the years he kept petrol mowers.

They were absolutely indestructible. You could plough with them. Levelling bumps, humps and the like and they would just keep going. As long as you kept the air filter clean etc

Don't think you see them in the UK.

I have a Briggs and Stratton powered mower I picked up at the tip for free, almost new about 7 years ago and it keeps going.
I too used to cut the neighbours lawn before he died and after he died for his wife, their kids never helped....... I also mowed across the street etc.
Personally I find mowing grass and gardening incredibly relaxing.

Good deeds do go around.

Thank you Gerard

Good work doing the neighbors grass 1/2 cup. Time invested on a good deed returns back many fold.

rmalkow The street I live in has a real sense of community and for the most part are owner occupied homes and quite a few retirees. We do tend to look out for one another and its just nice to get a wave and a smile.

 :+1: Yes I have to agree and whilst on Holidays something like that always makes you feel good.

It certainly does HOTFR8

Rian, they are a great mower, my Victa Mustang is one of the last ones built in Australia and I have had that one for about 7 years now.

I usually get about 10 years out of a mower, I am not sure what I would replace it with when its time comes.

I don't mind mowing myself either, its very rewarding to sit back and ponder on a freshly mown lawn that is neat as a pin.

Where my son lives there is a retired guy that edges every ones nature strip lawns in the street ( 6 houses ) every few weeks just because he can, then sweeps the paths an gutters and does a fantastic job, He asks for nothing in return however my son quite often provides his two stroke mower fuel.

Thanks Rian and have a great week end:thumbup:

Just a quick Solar update, our days are getting a little longer here as we move into spring and our system is churning out an average of 30 kwh per day. We are pretty happy with that at the moment.:)

Talking about the weather. Had a frost here today and not long to go over to Eastern Summer or day light saving time. My Solar Hot water boiled this week on a nice day.
Weather wise it is good for Solar and in the next week or so I will turn off the power to my Hot water and let the Solar do the work. Yet we still had a frost today.

That's pretty awesome 1/2 cup, you must have 5kW or so in panels? I'll have to go back earlier in your thread to review your setup. Mine is 3.06 kW but west facing as I don't have a lot of north facing roof area. Been raining most of the day up here so not much into the grid today.

Cheers Grumblebum.

We have a 6 kw system, you would need to go back to page 15 that should bring you up to date Grumblebum

Our system was a bit of a compromise in terms of orientation as well.
