1/2: no hurry, but can you take a few pictures of the top of the shelf you just made? curious to see how you attached everything. looks like it works great and of course i love that you included the light. nicely done and check that box and maybe with a star since it's far above average.

drives, here is a picture of the ceiling suspension system I used.

View media item 56243
And a link to the web site

http://www.rondo.com.au/products/ceilings

The system looks flimsy but can take quite a bit of weight. It is very simple and adjustable as well.

I simply pop riveted the sheet of corrugated to the channel from underneath much like I did the carport ceiling below.

View media item 48793
Not a great pic but you can see the suspension rods and channel in place.

I trust this helps.

1/2: looks like it's working which is the main thing. i'm guessing since the corrugated is only riveted that you need to only set things long enough to sit on the supports or will the rivets hold any weight?

i love your electrical pictures and am amazed at how clean everything you do is. WELL DONE SIR

i've wired up a few houses and basements and rooms and i think i still haven't used conduit. is that something you have to do for code in your area or just something you like to do?

hope you had a great weekend.

drives, there is nothing on the corrugated at the moment, the rivets, given the amount I have used would support a little weight.

When I comes to electrical work I am a little bit old school and do take great pride in how I install anything electrical. In terms of the code I could have just literally thrown the cables in, as I doesn't require any mechanical protection in a non accessible space. That's just me I guess.

I have just been tinkering with the MG F cylinder head today, matching the ports to the injection manifold and quite enjoying it I might add.

Have a good one.

1/2: there are some guys that would spend a nickel where they should have spent a dollar and you my friend would rather spend a dollar when a nickel might do so it won't have to be messed with ever again. i prefer your method to the other every time.

take care and looking forward to more engine **** pictures when you have time.

cheers

Thank you drives I try to do things right, as my Dad always says do it right and do it once. That said one still has to look at the economic reality of things and you don't necessarily have to spend the earth to get a suitable outcome.

Never fear more engine **** to follow.

Have a great day.

1/2: i totally agree. sometimes spending a couple or more than a few minutes of your time doing the job right the first time is far more valuable than any extra money that you can spend.

good luck with the engine and i (we) hope that work will be ok without your friend this week and in the future. like i said it sounds like he's going to be talking to you for many years to come now.

And herein lies my comment on celebrating his life.

By everyone rising to this very challenging challenge, you are honouring a great friend, leader.

I do believe things will settle again, the memories, pain and missing him will never completely go, but like my mother who passed away 20 years ago this year, the lessons learned, the values created and legacy left behind, will carry you.

Back to your garage, workspace etc....... Even you are leading by example here 1/2 Cup, trust me, many of us are inspired and steal ideas from your thread daily.

Have a good day.

Thank you so much Rian for your kind words, they are truly appreciated.

The funeral for Ian is on Saturday and it is shaping up to be a very fitting send off for the leader as he was.

Steal away, that is what makes the GJ the great place that it is.

1/2: I guess she's a KEEPER at this point. :D

congrats and we can all take a few lessons from you. it's better to include your wife in your plans and make time for her and usually say YES DEAR when she asks a question. That way you can have her maybe say YES more often to your requests or at least maybe your requests will be heard. also since we are the same age an even bigger congrats because the girls I knew or met when i was 21 weren't the marrying type.

I'm having my 28th the end of the month and not saying it's been bliss all those years especially with 5 kids to put in the mix, but the fires are still burning here. She still wants me to sell all my STUFF as she calls it, but she did help me set up a few big old HEAVY blueprint cabinets last night.

I'm hoping work is getting better as you all are getting instructions from Ian's spirit about who takes over the various parts of his old job. I can't say i've never lost a close co-worker, wife, one of my kids or a parent yet and not looking forward to either.

Have a great day today and our prayers are with you.

Congratulations on the big number; but don't ya hate it when that happens (forgetting it I mean) :scared:

Me and the Minister for War & Finance are coming up on 27 in March, and you've just reminded me to put it into my phone - thanks for that..... :lol_hitti

Also, I think you had the funeral this morning - hope everything went as well as could be expected, and that you gave your mate a fitting send off.

Congrats 1/2cup and Mrs 1/2cup on your anniversary.

And maybe put a reminder in your Outlook calendar a week or so before the next one.

.

Congratulations!

I pushed out our wedding date on purpose to help with this. We got married on October 11th, 2012. (10/11/12) Easy to remember!

Thank you each and every one, all my Outlook calendars are now up to date so next year given it is or 40th, I can be on the front foot for once. thumbup:

Words cannot describe Ians' send off yesterday but I will endeavour to paint the picture.
At the request from the family the dress code for the day was to be strictly Casual, no ties, no suits with shorts and flip flops being the order of the day.
Ian always hated formality and that included wearing a tie.
This send off was always going to be bigger than Ben Hur so the local community centre was chosen as the venue.
Mrs 1/2 Cup and I arrived early for the 11.00 am service and at that point there were 100 s there already. Upon signing the condolence book we were presented with a Stubby Holder or drink cooler as I think you guys call them with a printed picture of Ian on it.
Seating for 650 was provided for which was very quickly filled and I am guessing there would have been at least 800 people there as the venue was literally over flowing.
The service was certainly a celebration of Ians' life as he would have wanted and very fitting for the sort of guy he was, reflecting his 63 years.
There were several fantastic Eulogies presented by family, friends and our General Manager with lots of laughter and a few tears as well.
The family had invited everyone back to a local hotel/bar ( which was closed to the public just to cater for the event ) after the service to share a drink and nibbles with them which turned out to be a fantastic afternoon catching up with his family, friends, work colleagues some of whom I haven't seen in years.

RIP Ian.

I would also like to extend wishes for your wedding anniversary. I completed 50 years of happiness in 2015. I would say in this day and time that 38 years is a real good investment the two of you have. The sad part is the 12 years to 50 years of marriage will pass so fast you can't believe it!!

Best Regards

1/2: you said IAN was a GREAT BOSS/PERSON/FRIEND/MENTOR and i guess others thought exactly the same. He sounds like he did it right. all of us could only hope to have a few show up for our passing much less a 1,000 or so willing to take time to.

sorry the occasion was sad, but looks like always you found the silver lining.

keep thinking of him and i'm sure he'll guide you when you ask

Spence: Wow 50 years with the same person waking up next to you. congrats and WELL DONE yourself

ALL: just an FYI i just read one of our past presidents George Bush Sr. has been married 70 or 71 years to Barbara. we all have a long way to go to match that one. good luck boys

70 or 71 years!!????? What, they don't know for sure??? Well I don't feel bad about forgetting how long it's been for me and my sweet Rita. She says 33, I say 63

hafcup, again my condolences on the loss of your friend and mentor. The engineer who hired me, thus beginning a 40 year career with the county public works engineering is still with us. He has been a life long mentor and friend also and I do not look forward to the day I hear of his passing.

And congrats on your anniversary, what did you say it was again, 65 years?? :lol_hitti

Buick: that was my memory not the Bush's, but i'm guessing they might not remember if you ask them. even if i live to be 100 and still can see my wife i wouldn't make 70 or 71 years. it took me too long to find my dream girl.

1/2: hope this week is a little better than last and maybe as much time as you spend on your TO DO list and work you won't have much time to reflect about IAN. just listen for him to whisper in your ear.

looks like you are set for your 40th next year with Mrs. 1/2 so now all you have to do is plan something fun.

BTW have the dogs got a busy schedule coming up since you have a house full of champions?

take care
