The 2 on the right would be my choice.

Mark, I am tending towards that one myself.

What he said

Ditto, he is going to do some fiddling with font sizes today so it will be interesting to see what he comes up with.

Wow a Olds 215 V8!!! Don't see those very often. I believe used in the first turbocharged production car.
Note to self. Stuff engine in suitcase, fly to Australia, hang out with 1/2 cup while brother builts engine. Oh, and bring a big bottle of Scotch.

shorty those Olds engines are as rare as out this way, I am not sure what he is doing with it??

Stuff engine in suit case  you don't realize just how on the money you are. My brother brought an Offy block in his luggage some years back and my Dad brought a complete set of gears in from New Zealand for my Model A in his hand luggage.

I like your thinking, and yep Scotch does it for me every time:thumbup:

Thanks for dropping by and have a great day.

We had a simple rule for our friends and relatives back in America -- you are welcome to fly to Australia to visit us and stay with us as long as you like if you show up with a bottle of Scotch. No Scotch and you'll be staying in the hotel of your choice.

Bob I have to agree, those rules apply here as well:beer:

I am going to be a stick in the mud and say I do not like any of them.:(

1/2 Works just does not sound right to me.

Perhaps it should read 'Fully Worked' by the 1/2 Cup Engine works. :dunno:

HOTFR8, when you think about it an engine that just 1/2 Works is probably not ideal:lol_hitti

Your suggestions will be passed on to my young bloke.

Regards.

1/2: i've heard you give big kudos to your brother for his shop and his talent at building engines and wondered if that shop is on the same property his home is or is that a commercial garage just in a rural setting?

funny i never did get the taste of Scotch to where i liked it. i could drink a good bottle of Vodka, Gin or good beer all day long, but one sip of scotch makes my head hurt.

cheers

1/2, Glad you could see it from my point. I used to know a bloke called 1/2 done as he never finished any thing he started.

Drives, I am like you only my issue is Port. Nothing is better than a good cold beer after a hard days work on a hot day.

I vote for the right as well. It gives all the wording a chance to read easily. Great son you have to do that for you.

1/2 Cup, I've been lurking on this thread since I joined the GJ. You are a truly talented man. I don't have a lot I can add other than a few oouuhhs and aaahhhhs. So I'm better off just lurking and keeping my yap shut. Just wanted you to know that I'm sure there are many out there that are as impressed as I am but remain silent. Sorry to hear about your SIL's fire and your loss of a good friend. I'll just keep checking in and if I can add anything of value, I will. Love your "Notes to file" LMAO thinking I should be doing the same..... And later today, I'll crack a tinny and raise it to you..........Dan

Are they laser etched onto steel or laser printed onto paper

Kenfab they are laser etched aluminum.

I'm with HOTFR8 on this one...

Yup.

Two on the right, and right one between them.

It reads right.

X 2 on the two rhs plaques for clarity/presentation,

... but a 1/2 working engine ?? ... I dunno .. :dunno: .. ;);)

Guys, now I am confused :dunno: and to add to the my dilemma my eldest dropped of another dozen or so labels last night ( the ones on the right but just modified a little)

I think I will ponder on this for a while and play around with the design over the weekend and we will have another crack doing some more next week.

Thank you all for your input and have a great day.

Easy, just go back to post 2843. Fully worked by 1/2 Cup Engine works.

You never do a job by 1/2's so you need to get the message across it is fully done.

OK, we are all aware of the cup is 1/2 full - empty story that is the question about is it half full or half empty. In the case of the engine we all know 1/2Cup does the full job on every thing and never misses or skips a thing. What some would call a perfectionist although I know 1/2 will not agree to that. But if the job is worth doing then he does it to his best.

I have a Christmas tree controller to verify his work as full on and done by the book.

So about this plate for the car. I am just going to spit it out and say it needs to show and relay the perfection that comes out of the 'shed down under'. It is fully Sic (Sorry had to say that). OK It is fully done to the full on standards we see from 1/2.

I have said it before and I will say it again.
Fully Worked (to perfection) by 1/2 Cup Engine works. Saying anything else is just not living up to the standard we see from 1/2Cup.

^^^^^^ What he said.

Lyndon

thats awesome! is it done via a cad drawing or does the machine have its own software?

+1 Spot on! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Just done on CAD, some laser engravers have there own software from what I have seen.

I have solved the issue now, I will get my young bloke to do 1/2 a dozen of each of the suggestions and see what they look like. Easy.

Thanks guys.

That reminds me I must do a thread on the Christmas Tree Controller build when I get 5.

Have a great day.

1/2: i didn't comment on your label because i couldn't read one line even with my readers on. also i didn't hear which one you liked since it's your engine rebuild.

did you decide to buy bigger pistons or keep the ones already bought and paid for sitting on your bench?

sorry for asking twice, but curious if your brother's awesome shop is at his home or is that a rural setting for a commercial shop's business? l can't say one way or another if the engines you posted pictures of are good or great, but if you say he is amazing then that would be good enough for me to have him work on my stuff if i lived in your area if you were too busy.

cheers and hope you are having a great weekend.

I owe you an apology drives as I missed responding to your post #2845.

My son will do a few more iterations of the label before we decide what is ultimately the most suitable. So watch this space there is more to come.

We have decided to modify the new set of Omega pistons. They are going to a specialist piston manufacturer in Melbourne to get the valve pockets enlarged and a special coating applied to the thrust faces and all up that will take a week or so and cost around $200.

My brothers place is around 3 acres in a semi rural cull de sac right on the edge of town.
This includes the home and his shop which combines his toys and commercial business in its own right. It is a great setup and I really envy the space he has.

The flat head engines are truly well done and the attention to detail is second to none.

I am just off to work this morning to use the hot bath as my son (bless him ) dropped of a pile of MG parts to be hot tanked. I am taking the opportunity to clean up a few Model B Ford engine parts that will ultimately end up in the Model A

My son has his first outing in the MG F for the year at Sandown Raceway tomorrow or be it without his new engine, that said last years engine is still going strong and this will be his first outing on a long track with the borrowed close ratio gear box.

Have a great day:thumbup:

Just digressing a little and speaking of measuring twice and having to cut once!!!

Six months ago Mrs 1/2 Cup to 1/2 Cup "I would like a new fridge"

1/2 Cup to Mrs 1/2 Cup Why?? The one we have now is working well and does not have a mark on it.

Mrs 1/2 Cup to 1/2 Cup I would like one that's frost free.

1/2 Cup to Mrs 1/2 Cup mmmmm!

Just let it pass 1/2 Cup

Time goes by and three months ago

Mrs 1/2 Cup to 1/2 Cup "I would like a new fridge" as she was defrosting the fridge.

1/2 Cup to Mrs 1/2 Cup I didn't say much, our fridge is working well.:headscrat

Mrs 1/2 Cup to 1/2 Cup I would like one that's frost free.

1/2 Cup to Mrs 1/2 Cup mmmmm!

Earlier this week

Mrs 1/2 Cup to 1/2 Cup I am going to get a new fridge. ( being the independent type person she is)

1/2 Cup to Mrs 1/2 Cup Ok, check out what will fit in the existing cavity then left for work.

Get home from work and a fridge is sitting on our front veranda still in its packaging.

As most of you would know i absolutely detest moving furniture, I don't know exactly why but i just do however i will take this one on the chin. So out with the trolley and endeavour to bring the new fridge in the front door, ****** it will not fit by 1/2 an inch.
Plan B the lounge sliding doors which meant moving and rearranging furniture, you do what you have to do at times. After carefully manovering this beast through the obstacle course to get it in to the kitchen.

I unpacked the new fridge and after a quick assessment line of sight tells me mmm this is going to be a tight fit as it looked a little taller than the opening.

So out with the measuring stick mmmm and as it turned out the fridge door is 5/16 taller than the opening which means that when it is home in the cavity we have to open the door in order to access the over head cupboards.

View media item 57783
Option one - remove the castor wheels and levellers from the bottom of the fridge.

Option two - Remove, trim 3/16 from the over head cupboard draws.

Option three - Leave it as it is and put up with the inconvenience.

Note to file 1/2 Cup: Say nothing.

Just saying, You had the warning you should have taken her shopping for it with the tape measure.

So now you have to say nothing.

Edited Note: How is the new Beer Fridge going to fit in the 'Shed Down Under'?

I know HOTFR8, I know:eek:

Put up and shut up, did I say I know.

Side note the beer fridge in the shed is going well and suitably stocked.

1/2: i was going to say exactly what HotFr8 said unless you already have a nice beer fridge in the Shed. do you?

besides not saying a thing to Mrs. 1/2 about the size what did you end up doing to make it fit so she doesn't find out about your pain?

remember she approved or will approve the new compressor, the carport's storage and a multitude of other things you mention so go with the flow i guess it my advice.

also thanks for all the information about brother's shop. no worries about missing the question the first time and honestly that might be the first time in maybe a year you haven't answered my question in the same or next day so you deserve at least several passes.

good luck with the fridges and have a great weekend.

drives I do have to bite my tongue, the new compressor does have the stamp of approval as of last week however at this point I am in no hurry for it and will wait until the one I have selected comes on special at Hare and Forbes. The old one is coping for now that I have finished the MG F head.

http://www.machineryhouse.com.au/CATM

I still think I am in credit though. I neglected to mention that Mrs 1/2 Cup brought a new lap top two weeks ago and then last week a new IPhone turned up out of the blue.:dunno:

I now have to move the old fridge from the family room so she can detail it ready for sale.

Have a great day guys.

1/2: i know you and Mrs. 1/2 have a great marriage, but with all great marriages comes compromise or patience. one of our original presidents was famous for quoting this so thought I'd share with you while i go to my garage fridge and grab an IPA.

I'm trying to try this when i'm not angry too and maybe one day i'll have it figured out.

Cheers

OK with all that answered (thank you) I like many others are keen to see how you make the new fridge fit.

I had similar issues here when the big double door fridge freezer failed and we had to get it out and the new Fridge in. We ended up removing doors on the old one and lifting (yes) the new one over the bench to put it in place. Delivery fellow was very good to help make a sale.

As 1/2 knows I have a small bar fridge in my shed and another that does summer duty as well. Perhaps Mrs 1/2 will decide to keep the old fridge in the laundry as many do instead of selling it.

Drives that message is so true.

In general I am a pretty patient and tolerant guy, as my old boss used to say "Take the emotion out of it 1/2 Cup." and I practice that every day at work. I have had a busy week with contractors short cutting things big time, where some at work really crack it. My approach is one of lets look at the situation objectively and what was agreed to in the contract and if it is not what was delivered the answer is simple just fix it.

I am just leaving it as it is and living with it.

We have no room in the laundry for the old unit as there is a small freezer in there now which suits our needs pretty well.
