Congrats on your acquisition there 1/2 Cup.

It will no doubt feel great to have some extra land to use.

And the fact it comes with a shed must make the situation that much better again.

Thank you AndrewP I must admit to being a little apprehensive at first, but as it sits now I am confident we have made the right move. Plus it will give me some room to move down the track.

Thanks for dropping by and all the best with your 6 liter.

That plane is just gorgeous!!!

What a privilege.

Thank you Rian It brings a tear to my every time I recall the flight.

With nearly 2000 hp at your finger tips and doing steep turns, a barrel roll and a low level beat up just above the hard deck it is an experience I will never forget. Not to mention 35 minutes flight time ( under instruction ) I my log book on a P51 Mustang.

One thing off my bucket list that I want to do again.

It is a great day for those interested in old aircraft and this is where I had my fly in a Mustang from, there will be some fantastic aircraft on display.

If you are interested in that, you've really got to see the "Warbirds Down Under" at Temora http://warbirdsdownunderairshow.com.au/.

(All my own photos).

We went last November, and the show is fantatstic. David Lowy has the only 2 flying Spitfires in the Southern Hemisphere, and he had P40 and P51 Mustangs in the air. As well as Wirraways, DC3's (from HARS in Albion Park Wollongong), Caribou, etc. It was a great day. And we are going to "Wings Over Illawarra" in April https://www.wingsoverillawarra.com.au/. (The XJR is part of the car show).

1/2: speaking of flying my wife and i sometimes park next to a lake that has a small airport next to it while we eat lunch. we like seeing the planes take off and land and the ones that land and take off from the water in the float planes is just AWESOME. have you ever flown and landed a float plane? how did you like it?

love the story about you turning off the engine on your plane to test your skills at landing without power. any nervousness the first time you did that? i never used to be afraid of heights, but the last few years i'm starting too. maybe because my depth perception and coordination isn't what it once was so maybe afraid of tripping or mis stepping and falling where i never thought that possible.

anyway thought you might like to see what a Washington State float plane looks like and a few of the wealthy plane owners have modified their trucks to push and pull their planes around.

I'm still envious of your new home purchase next door and wish you nothing but the best with that.

Lyndon: i see you are posting pictures on your thread and nicely done, but now you are posting pictures on 1/2's and probably other threads. WELL DONE and nice pictures to ad a little color and history to GJ.

Lyndon We were actually contemplated going to Temora last year, small world.

I would love to get up to Illawarra at some point.

We crossed the ditch a few years back to New Zealand and went to Warbirds Over Wanaka 2010.

http://www.warbirdsoverwanaka.com/next_airshow.html

That was a top show, brilliantly organised, well choreographed with a spectacular back drop.

Mrs 1/2 Cup still talks about it.

Many thanks for sharing your pictures, just brilliant.

Drives, no I have never flown in a float plane and I would imagine it would be just awesome.

When I was training engine failure was a practiced time and time again. The first time I experienced it I have to say I was not real comfortable with it but over time you do gain a good level of confidence to that end it is like riding a bike.

Many years ago I was a passenger with my Dad ( who hadn't flown for a while ) and we shared all the normal preflight checks, however I had gotten into the practice of switching the fuel tap off after a flight and Dad would never do that. We taxied out and began the take off roll, reaching about 20 ft off the run way and the engine quit. Dad froze and took over the controls to get the aircraft in a glide and was able to land and stop the plane in the remaining run way and breathed a sigh of relief.
We discovered that he hadn't turned on the fuel in the prestart believing that it would still be on.:shocking: Turned the fuel on (gravity fed in a Cessna 152) restarted and taxied back to the apron and parked it for the day.

Stalls and spins in an aircraft are a stomach in the mouth maneuver as well.

Thank you for sharing your pictures and BTW the real estate agent plastered the for sale sign with the mandatory SOLD sign yesterday. I cant wait.

Hey Lads, the plane pics are very nice.
I have a bit of useless information for you.. Do you remember the adds for Tassie where the Cessna flies along the beach and then banks up the cliff face, well that was done when I was 13. I had mentioned to my Dad that flying would be nice, so he organized a flight for me with a friend. It was the pilot, the camera man and me. After doing about 10 runs across the face of the beach going just over an old 4x4, we did a stall check after the climb from the cliff. Unfortunately that was the last time I wanted to be a pilot. Flying was great, but falling with stile as the kids now call it just got to me. SO I just enjoy watching them now, we are under the flight path into Canberra airport and Fairburn for the Air Force. Huhh speak of the devil, South Care just flue over, hope it is a good flight, there returns are sometimes not happy ones for the passengers.

Holy cow, CONGRATS on the real estate deal!!! Smart move. Just curious, is the one on the other side still for sale.

BF the property on the east is still for sale;)

Mrs 1/2 Cup has already mentioned that as well..several times.

The issue that I have is that I don't get another shed as it has already been strata titled and has a unit out the back. I did bid on the property some 10 years ago before it was split up by the current owner but it went well above what I was prepared to pay.

Thanks for dropping by.

Thanks for sharing your story Terrick, that would have been an initiation by fire for sure.

We are directly in the circuit area of the Shepp airport so we get a birds eye view from the kitchen window.

Have a great day every one.

:lol_hitti Love it Carves.

If you are looking for a doghouse, we have one so long as you don't dismantle cars on the front lawn or nature strip.

Thanks, the engine build is a little slower than I would like but it is for the right reasons I will not see the new crank until Easter, then we can get a wriggle on with it. Slow and steady wins the race literally.

1/2: so that short flight (OR NON FLIGHT) with Dad I bet helped you guys bonded a bit more than most of us get to with our Dad's. sounds like maybe you inherited some of your Dad's AMAZING skills too.

How's the drawings and TO DO list coming along for the neighbor's property becoming part of the Shed?

I hear you about buying the neighbor's property, but having rentals next to you I hope you get to enjoy the better parts of being a landlord and not find the tenants that we all dread. best you can do if I were to have any rentals again is to screen them very closely and get the names of their landlords and friends from their past beside their current landlord that might give a good reference just to be rid of them. also if possible I would have a separate phone # for tenants (living next door won't solve this one entirely, but might help because you'll know when they are calling). only because all too often one would call me when I was having fun at a kid's ballgame or a party and i'd say yes when I should have said NO to some of their requests. now we have caller ID but some tenants are calling from different phones than their own when asking favors.

being next door and with your people skills i'm sure you'll do fine. I'm just throwing out ideas as I think of them because being a LANDLORD was a little unique to me because being a NICE GUY doesn't usually work well with all tenants.

Drives, thank you.

I flew many hours with Dad, even right back in the days when he was training so that gave me great insight and experience for when I was able to eventually able to learn to fly. During training you practice, practice and keep on practicing then practice some more, you never stop learning and honing your skills.

We started putting together the TO DO LIST for next door a few weeks ago and it is growing by the day. This weekend I intend to a least tidy up the nature strip as we can't officially do anything until settlement on the 15 th of April.

The home has been a rental for many years and I have always made the policy of getting to know all our neighbors which helps big time.

I must say I am a tad apprehensive about becoming a landlord and I will take your advise on board for sure, one step at a time.

xtremek thank you:thumbup:

It is certainly another chapter in our lives and I feel comfortable that we have made the right decision.

Have a great day.

Just remember, in Australia, for some obtuse reasons, the law favours the tenant in residential situations, and the landlord in commercial situations.....

Don't ask me how I know.... :willy_nil :willy_nil :willy_nil

Strewth, someone got a new house! Congrats. Nothing like more projects. Great idea on the rental/storage idea.

Strewth, my broken thumb is worthless as **** on a boar hog. And my friend replies, "If a frog had wings, he wouldn't bump his ***!"

Lyndon thank you for the heads up, we are certainly not entering into this faint heartedly, the home has been rented for many years now and we have had some great tenants in there over that time. Screening likely tenants is a must as we also have the amenity of others around us as well to consider.

You know that idea does have plenty of merit. Tenants can be a pain unless you get some very good ones that care and want to look after the building like it is there own. The B & B idea of a whole house set up has been done before and can work very well. I can see Mrs 1/2 running it very well.

Any discount for GJ members would be a great promotional idea.:D

To be honest I'd be hesitant. You'd feel guilty any time you tried to do anything noisey in the shed, for ruining someone's holiday :(

If you're ever in Wagga looking for accomodation, I'd reccomend Dunn's Bed and Breakfast. Gorgeous old house, and the owner will drop you into town in his '29 Buick, and then pick you up after, so you and the missus can have a few drinks  And the wife cooks some great homemade biscuits which are served on arrival

1/2 Cup as someone who's just gone through the rental application process, ask the real estate agents for their application forms. Amazing how different the different information they ask for is in terms of references. :headscrat

I doubt that would be an issue as the usual residential noise restrictions would apply. When you think about it when you go on holiday you only stop in a place at night as during the day you are out doing things.

Now that is a sensible idea. No doubt they have some good knowledge on that sort of thing.

Not knowing the ins and outs of the law where you are, I'd add(with no merit) that possibly renting could pose a sticky wicket. I know from my past that the tenants do seem to have more rights than the landlord(but that's here in the US) I'd doubt that you'd favor the idea that you'd find yourself in a situation that gave the renters more power than you had over your own property. My, what a good thing that could turn sour in such an instant. Just adding my two cents as I used to own an apartment house and learned a lot about renter's rights.

Seems to be the topic of conversation. I'm not trying to do anything but add my 2 cents.

I like your thinking shorty I will run that by Mrs 1/2 Cup and see what sort of reaction I get.:scared:

Don't worry HOTFR8 either way who ever goes in will be screened very well Mrs 1/2 Cup will make sure of that.

A mate of mine had a B&B near Mt Macedon and it was very successful. We could also do the serviced apartment thing and of course offer a discount for GJ members.:D

hewey, I don't think noise will be an issue, I will put that in any rental agreement and supply ear muffs just incase a tenant takes exception to a drop saw at 6 am.;)

The B&B in Wagga looks fantastic, I will put that in the data base for sure, thanks for the tip.

Mrs 1/2 Cup has been actively following up on all that side of things and I will certainly make mention of it thank you.

I believe you are right HOTFR8 I am really conscious of making too much noise in any case and work within those restrictions, to that end we have a night shift worker in the street and you respect that as well.

Thanks again every one for dropping by, 4 hours to go for the long weekend and I am out of here.:3gears:

Have a good one:thumbup:

Thank you for sharing your thoughts dlcwent In terms of renters rights it is the same deal here. We do need to get it right from the get go for sure and part of that process will be doing our due diligence. That said thing can go pear shaped very easily.

PS it more like $2.00 worth and not 2 cents, you undersell the value of your advise:thumbup:

Many thanks again.

And with the exchange rate being about 70 cents in the dollar, that makes it about $2.85

Today $1-00 AUD = $0.75c USD.

oops, I forgot to add GST* .... $3.13 :D
(*Goods and Services Tax).

No GST on any money going off shore.

I think you're probably right Simon.

:) Yes I think given what we see and read here and am positively sure about it. Just wait and I am sure 1/2 will confirm it in the day or so or may be after the long weekend.

1/2: I've heard some good things about Air B & B so you might want to check it out. I've never used it, but we were thinking of using their site to travel a bit in the future if the ratings stay high.

the variety of folks might be fun to have next door especially if they are from parts of the world you'd like to travel to sometime before you leave this world. it's one thing talking to people from all over the world like we do here on GJ and quite another meeting them and talking with them in person.

I wish you and Mrs. 1/2 Cup all the best. I bet the rodents and Shelby already have that big yard scoped out for themselves so just letting you know.

cheers
