The new compressor has arrived at work, I have just loaded it onto the trailer ( during my lunch break of course ) and I have kept it on the skid and wrapped for the trip home this after noon.

We have just had our external OH&S audit this morning, talk about a cast of thousands poking through our all systems, procedures, contract documentation, workshops, offices and even our dumpsters.

Our final inspection of the home next door is scheduled for 4.00 tonight so I will slip away from work a little earlier than normal.
Hand over was scheduled for 11.30 Monday when we finally get the keys.

Just checking back in; I'm about 5 weeks behind. Looks like things have accelerated in your neck of the woods since I dropped by.

That's a beautiful P-51. To see another checkout my Facebook page under Ric Grassmick. Another beautiful restification owned by the former president of Sikorsky Helicopters, Jeffrey Pino, who has a home about a mile from mine at a local airpark. Terrible phone pic as the glare from the two open hangar doors behind floods out a lot of detail. Mr. Pino was gracious enough to keep others out of the shot while our boys got into position. He's standing to the far left in the pic.

As for living close to an airport, we are under the landing pattern for the airpark mentioned above, everything from an autogyro to bunch of Stearmans to a Cessna CJ3. I work about a mile from the east end of Skyharbor International Airport in downtown Phoenix AZ. Planes taking off or landing every 5 minutes or so. I love it!

1/2: congrats on the compressor. the bets are all out waiting to hear what the extra purchases were/are. did they include more tools to use with your new compressor or pipe and fittings to hard wire the shop so you can plug and play so to speak with the new compressor. or maybe some parts for another bench build for the NEW SHOP?

also hope the house inspection didn't come up with any surprises. best of luck with that and the new digs.

BTW I really like the idea of the B & B with maybe not anybody knowing the owner lives next door unless you choose to say. or I hope you get a like minded tenant that appreciates a home and takes care of it as you do yours.

i'm setting up a few more racks in my 25 x 25 shop/storage that I lease and just ask for pictures if you might want a few to get some ideas. I've been told i'm pretty good at getting maximum usage for the space I have and here's an update of my messy 9 x 15 portion of my garage at home that is getting closer to being able to get some work done in there. as you can see i'm trying to cure the FLAT SPACE DISEASE that I have.

Terrick, The trouble is we invite auditors to do this so we can keep our accreditation at work, the audit went pretty well however I am suspecting there will be a number of improvement initiatives in the final report for us to look at.

Coop, you are right heaps to do. Mrs 1/2 Cup is heading to Ballarat with the rodents this morning, then back Sunday.
The final inspection ticked all the boxes, the only thing I am just a little peeved about is that the owner has not even bothered to mow the lawns, tidy up even a little bit or dropped in just to say g'day. The agent noted my effort on the council nature strip which was a plus.

No surprises with the inspection at all, we just went through each room and shed to check every thing is a it should be.

I do like the idea of a B&B for sure, a mate of mine did one a while ago and found it a bit of a tie, any way food for thought.

Heck you have some gear in your shop/storage. and that is just so well organised with not a square inch wasted. Well done.

I have cured myself once and for all of flat space disease since joining the GJ, the therapy has been great.

I envy you being in a position at seeing such a large variety of aircraft like that. We to live in line with runway 18 here, just outside the circuit area but we do not get a whole heap of traffic here and it is mostly modern stuff.
I quite often visit Tyabb airport some two hours south and that is a mecca for warbirds.

We started on fitting a new set of offset bushes to the MG F lower arms last night. My eldest was insistent in removing the old bushes before he went home.

I was half expecting that the engine balancing would be completed by this week end but they have been pretty busy as well, so there is a bit of a breather for me and it looks like next week it is.

This is the new kit we will fit today.

Steve, I bought one of those little vise brakes a few months ago and actually used it for a tiny project.

Our master bath was outfitted with a wall phone outlet and years ago I hung a cordless phone on it. I recently bought a more modern system that doesn't require each extension to be hard-wired. Problem is the charging bases aren't wall-mountable. Not a problem in most of the house but a charging base on the bathroom counter is an absolute no go.

I got rid of the wall phone outlet and replaced it with a piece of aluminum bent 90-degrees to form a shelf. Attached the charging base with some double-sided automotive emblem tape. Phone stays off the precious counter space and I didn't have to patch the hole. The vise brake worked perfectly to give me a nice neat bend.

Note to self: Scrape off the compound and touch up the paint around the exposed edge of the old phone outlet.

This morning has been another of those days here thus far

My eldest turned up to finish his suspension bushes which he had some trouble with but we got there in the end.

Dad dropped in for a visit, a neighbour was in for a chat, my youngest called and several emails later sorted his issues with a 120 volt lamp that he had brought back for the States last year.
Tried to fit up the new compressor but gave that up to help Mrs 1/2 Cup get ready for her trip to Ballarat with three of the rodents, getting her ready at the best of times is a mission in it self.

To top that there is a garage sale in the street and the traffic has been bedlam out the front of our place.

Anyway the dust has settled now, Ahh the serenity.

Finish mowing the lawns, back into the shed, clean up my eldest's mayhem in the shed then on to the compressor.

DLC, Lyndon, GB and all: my garage has to be the smallest of almost anybody on GJ and especially in the garage gallery, but I've been thinking of starting a thread called Organizing 101 for a while now and might just do that. I would like to own a nice 60 x 40 so I don't have to lease a shop and storage units for my stuff and so I could actually work on projects and not have to run here and there looking for my tools because I do have a few. I think I was also voted 2nd least handy on GJ's forum because i'm certain I'm handier than somebody. hell I changed a battery on my Honda this morning in the parking lot in front of my storage unit where it decided to give up the ship. of course I didn't have my metric socket set in my Honda so I changed the battery with a 10mm wrench only that was in my little Craftsman set and it was about 3 inches long.

I have gotten a bit done Saturday believe it or not. Today its the big green store to pick up a few bits and pieces, then drop in to an auction on the way home and have a gander there for a while.

It looks like I do have a sale for the old compressor, fingers crossed. It still works fine in general but would not cut the mustard when it came to using the die grinder on the MGF head port and polish. At some point I will build or buy a blast cabinet.

The GJ has been just such an inspiration to me and was the catalyst for getting me off my **** to try that little bit harder with every thing I do in the Shed Downunder.

I have been watching the Masters live telecast this morning, that course is just a picture and there has been some great golf been played.

I will post some pics up of the council strip which I did mow yesterday and the home in general to share what we are faced with after the hand over on Monday.

I have to say this drives your contributions to the GJ across a broad range of subjects, encouragement, support and kind words is just outstanding.
I would like to take this opportunity to express a big thank you again.

I did notice that I passed the 1/2 million views yesterday and it is many thanks to every one on the GJ that have contributed to this.

Honestly, this is approaching "art" in my opinion. Oozes testosterone and coolness. I am a big fan of the book "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance", for one reason really. The book got me thinking that I actually felt guilty at times taking time, care and devotion in doing one thing (or project) really well. When I see a project like this, it really reminds me of the satisfaction in craftsmanship.

I had never acknowledged it before, but this happens to me all the time. I take way longer on a job than I think it "should take", to get it just right. Whenever I take shortcuts, or don't take the time to do it how I want it done, I end up feeling disappointed with myself.

Perfect example... building a sandpit (sandbox) "should" be a quick job. Should be able to knock one up in a few hours, tops.

Mine took weeks to plan and build. Partially because I had my 3 year old "helping", but also because I did "silly" things like making sure the heads of all the (stainless) fasteners lined up properly.

I remember feeling guilty that I was "wasting time" with all the little details bits... lining the screw heads up, making sure the decking timber was all stained underneath where you can't see it, avoiding getting stain on the screw heads, aluminium angle to dress the corners, treated pine frame, clad inside and out with weathertex, weedmat on top of a layer of gravel for drainage under the sand...

But geez I'm proud of that sandpit! I doubt I'd be sharing photos of a sandpit I knocked up in a few hours.

I've actually gone and lined the corner ones up a bit better since I took that photo, because the photo makes them look a little crooked

I've also heard it called "clocking the screws". A Google image search for "clocked screws" is strangely satisfying.

I'm with you there on the "clocked screws" . . . . If only I could ignore what orientation the screws were when the screwing was done!!!!!

It must cost me hours per "fix up".

1/2: without any water and all the hot weather you've had lately the council's strip in front of the new investment next door looks great. I bet I've mowed our lawn already 6 times this year and need to do so again today before I end up watching Jordan with another Masters. Jordan will have a little company on his walk into the clubhouse your Aussie Jason Day might be one of the guys in the mix so maybe you'll catch a bit of it even though it's Monday Down Under and you are signing papers for the new SHED.

also wanted to thank you for the great words about me and I hope others feel the same about me here on GJ. I might not be even close to the handiest, but I do have a little help I can offer from time to time and of course a few questions.

1/2: I had no idea what you were talking about a few days ago with a VISE BREAK until you just posted a picture of it. OMG I've never seen or knew that even existed and you might know that I own a few vises (vices).

if you have time you should post up more pictures of your vise break and your dawn vise on the cool welding table over on the main vise thread. that vise break is not only COOL looking it also looks like it works. now I have to see where I can find an old one or buy one.

Its been a while since I checked in, I was taken back by that auction you posted on, WOW! I would of loved to attend that, but with over 500 bidders I would of probably just watched. That vise you pointed out was really unique, I have never seen on like that before, I would of loved to bid on a few of those anvils, maybe its a good thing I was not there, I would have dropped some cash for sure Thanks for posting!
