1/2: it looks like at least 1/2 or maybe more of the West Wing Storage Facility Annex B to the Shed Downunder will be full in a matter of a day or two with the following items:
1) Gramp's wagon
2) Model A and parts
3) glass display (Any way that can go in your house with Mrs. 1/2's approval?)
4) Mangle (very cool old cast iron piece BTW)
5) garden tools and supplies
6) TBD (to be determined)

so at this point I can see an addition to the WWSFAB very soon. yes??

i'm sure you will love having the space in the Shed now and since the WWSFAB is storage you might want to get some 8 or 10 foot tall racks so you can maximize the amount of STUFF especially since you'll need some supplies to fix, repair and spiff up the new rental house (B & B).

i'll get you a few pictures of my 25 x 25 in a couple weeks as I have it where I can actually walk and do some work there instead of it just being a storage unit if you'd like.

are you flying your own plane to meet Mrs. 1/2 or i'm guessing you are taking a commercial flight to meet her and drive her home? I wonder how many tourists go to your area and have a head on collision just because your right (correct) side of the road to drive on is opposite of how we drive in the US?

Sorry your thread is taking up your QST, but I for one always enjoy reading what you and the guys have to say. HotFr8 just clarified what a cat whip was otherwise i'd have thought more in the lines of swinging an actual cat.

cheers

Spiders always make a mess. I have found the leaf blower good to clean them up a day or two later after spraying. Pressure washer will make a mess and many spiders do not mind the water. No point flushing them given they can hold there breath for such a long time.

Sounds like you have it all planned out so a busy few days along with a trip away. Where do you fly out from? Tulla or something closer to Shepp?

I'm trying to envision this. Really HOTFR8! How many freaking spiders are in a garage over there anyway? Many I don't want to know. I hate spiders. And I can't imagine there are so many that one would use a leaf blower to clean them up.:scared:

I was intentionally not commenting on the horrible accident that you ran across 1/2 cup. Good luck with the QSTx2 and the trip to see the grandson.

I think Steve and Simon might have packed it in for the night, so I'll anwer while there off in the land of the long blink. Spiders here will inhabit any, repeat, ANY space that isn't treated with a pesticide regularly. Especially if there is a heavy bark gum tree around. They (especially Huntsman spiders - the big hairy mother f#$%^ing ugly ones) love moving away from their breeding ground and into habitats, mainly because they are really good at eating insects like fly's, mosquitoes, cockroaches and smaller spiders). So you can clear them with whatever means you have to hand, including a size 9. While they are blind as bats, you really don't want to be bitten by one, as the venom can make your life hell for years before they figure out what has caused your symptoms. :eyecrazy:

Still up - heck it's Friday night - and I'm thirsty! :3gears: :rocker:

Redbacks and ********* spiders appear to love my shed so every so often I get the blower out and try my best to get rid of them then spray them. Works well. I hit them with the cheap fly spray or surface spray to keep them away until the next lot move in. I often find the spiders capture small lizards.

What is the history/story behind your grandfather's wagon?

Code4play
Some 20 odd years ago I inherited my grand fathers horse drawn wagon circa 1910 when the family farm was sold, it has been stored under cover all its life and is in remarkable condition.

My grandfather ( a blacksmith by trade ) converted it from a box cart to a flat top wagon in the 20s where it was used primarily to cart wheat in bags from the farm to the local rail siding a round trip of 14 miles up until the late 40s.

I do have some old family pictures of the wagon pre modification, I have to say the work that my grand father did at the time was second to none.

At the time my uncle rehoused all my grand fathers blacksmith shop equipment and set up a display in a local museum that replicates the original setup. I offered the wagon to the museum but they, like many in the district, appear to have a number of them in their collections.

Thank you for dropping by and have a great day.

1/2: I won't ask you to answer any more questions and don't expect the answers until you get back to work, but just thought how funny it is that the store you get your tools from is Hare & Forbes (HF) and our big Chinese importer for tools and this and that is Harbor Freight (HF). does your HF sell imported cheap stuff like ours or is it only upper end because I can't quite recall the tools that you and other members are buying there?

anyway just want to wish you a safe trip and hope you and Mrs. 1/2 have a great time with your kids.

cheers

PS I wish I had a tree of knowledge around my house for a wise neighbor to stop by. maybe by the time my PINE tree starts producing pine nuts in about 10 years it will be big enough if we haven't moved yet. :D

Drives as usual thank you very much for dropping by.

Until things get organised and settled down here we will not be adding another Western Annex any time soon but I am relishing the prospect of have the real estate to do so.

We will be utilising the space to the max and that will include some racking.

Looking forward to seeing your 25 X 25:thumbup:

I am flying commercial to Sydney.

I have heard anecdotally the there has been a number of accidents involving tourists the could have been attributed to the fact that we drive in the other side of the road.

PS you should try driving a left hand drive car out here, now that is a challenge.

I have really enjoyed yesterdays posts, having the lap top in the shed was a welcome distraction.

Have a great day and thank you again.

Thanks 1/2 Cup I think I have mentioned before my family originated from down there. Though more Kyabram /Echuca. My cousin still runs granddads farm (dairy). I love hearing the stories my dad tells about those old horse drawn days. He does say how at Echuca at the rail siding guys would run up ladders on the side of the stacks 30feet or more high with a full wheat bag on their shoulder. While they'd pay a young bloke to get beers from the pub for hydration :).

Thank you Dan, there lots of spiders and webs in the shed, trust me. The residual spray has done the trick, so now I have started to use the vac with an extension to clean up the webs, I still will use the leaf blower then pressure wash on the floor.
There are some nasty spider types out here and the shed has mainly Red Backs in it at the moment.

Lyndon, I was well and truly snoring zzzzs when you posted and thanks for your input.

Redbacks and ********* spiders appear to love my shed so every so often I get the blower out and try my best to get rid of them then spray them. Works well. HOTFR8, I use Raid Surface Spray It gives you about six months respite from them.

Drives, Hare and Forbes do import a fair bit of gear from China and Taiwan but it is at the upper end of the market. That said they do sell our local brands, my compressor for example is built here in Australia.

Thank you again, I am quite looking forward to the trip, Mrs 1/2 Cup arrived safely last night following here 9 hour trip. She is of to see our grandson play in the Little Kickers round ball training this morning.

I am still trying to find my tree of knowledge around here.

Have a top day and thank you one and all for dropping by.

code4play, I do remember you mentioning that you originally came from this neck of the woods.

Funny that, my dad is the same he can talk for hours and in minute detail, even down to the horses names, of how the wagon was loaded, hitching the team up for the trip and greasing the wheel hubs. I find that just so fascinating and pass this on to the next generation.

Thank you again for dropping by.

1/2: I also have a 20 x 20 storage unit besides my 25 x 25 shop that has commercial racking so I can park a car or trailer under the 12 foot racks which might be a better set up for your WEST WING. Instead of lining up the racks alongside the walls I put them so I had shelving above my trailer and so I can walk to the back of the unit where I have racking set up across the back wall.

i'm not sure what kind of racking you are able to find Down Under, but with your skills all you need are some steel and you can probably make anything.

how tall are your ceilings?

no hurry on the answers because with all you have going on you need to enjoy the weekend with the family before getting back to work and the long hours getting the new digs ready for a tenant.

cheers and hope you had a safe trip.

If you try it you do not need to spray much of it about. I find it good on the pumps and shed sliding doors.

Thanks again HOTFR8 I picked some up this morning but have not put it out as yet.

Drives thank you again. We are can get a huge range of both new and used racking out here and I will be buying a couple of bays of commercial racks reasonably cheap for sure. At the lowest point at the eaves are 8'6 and the apex is around 11' so there is plenty of scope to be flexible. I do like your idea as it maximises the available space.

I have been in the garden in the West Wing cutting down the self seeded palm that had entangled it self around the over head power line just to make sufficient clearance to be safe when my mate gets around to moving it proper.

I also tackled a few errant rose bushes, did some weed wacking as well and watered the lawns.

There was a bit of excitement in the neighbour hood this morning, the police had cordoned off an area to the north and one street over from us. The police waited until the dog squad was flown in from Melbourne evidently they got the offender. I am not sure what the issue was, as this is usually a pretty quiet neighbourhood.

Not long to go now before I head off first thing in the morning.

Mrs 1/2 Cup is having a ball with our grandson, so I am looking forward to the trip.

Have a great day and thanks for dropping by.

1/2: if you need any advice about palm trees or plants you might not have to look any further than Mr. Bob Heines because I'm guessing he has about 1/3 of all of them in Florida just in his yard. His yard looks like a park.

hope you have a great time this weekend and I'm going to have fun ORGANIZING and getting ready to start my outdoor projects maybe knowing where my tools are this year.

cheers and hope you have a fun relaxing weekend with the family

BF, thank you but strangely I don't have any pictures of the blacksmith shop but I managed to find this one on google images.

The set up is pretty much what it was on the farm and I am pleased that the collection is out there for every one to enjoy.

My guess is 1/2Cup is well on the way flying up to see his grandson in Sydney so we will not hear much from him for a day or two now.

Thank you drives and HOTFR8, we have returned after a whirlwind week end celebrating or grandsons forth birthday I was a 10 hour drive yesterday back home. Both of us had a ball.

Details later, next week end is shaping up to be another feet not touching the ground three days.

My work emails have piled up after having Friday and Monday off with no time to catch up due to the meetings that I have had scheduled for me today.

Regards

1/2 cup, glad you made it home and didn't have a bingle on the way. (My new Aussie word for today)

I'll be waiting for you to catch your breath and get up to date on your work stuff before I hound you about your next step on QSTx2.

The grandson that turned 4...I'm assuming he belongs to one of Andrew's siblings.

Thank you Dan, home safe and sound, no bingles, no roos ( kangaroos ) just a long drive.

My grandson ( Jayden ) that turned four is the first of our second son Cameron and wife Briana and we are proud to announce there is another on the way due in early October.

Our eldest ( Andrew ) and wife Amy are also expecting their first in December.

So the family is growing and both myself and Mrs ½ Cup are over the moon.:thumbup:

All,

Back at work now. Note to file: Never take two days leave from work again.

46 emails to actually deal with, 3 meeting requests for later this week and most of today is taken up with more meetings. Two pump station design reviews to be completed by Thursday, a structure review meeting this morning, an inspection of our main office HVAC upgrade works in progress Thursday and a full day Friday commissioning yet another pump station.

It certainly was a whirlwind few days and I am still coming down from my sugar high that comes with any four year olds birthday party. Up at 3.30 am Sunday Morning, Andrew picked me up at 5.00 am, travel 2 hours to Melbourne, check in for 8.00 am departure, arrive Sydney 9.05 and Mrs ½ Cup picked me up for the 1 ½ hour trip north to Gosford . Party time with a dozen or so of Jayden’s play group, cousins and parents which everyone had a great time and no tears. Then out for dinner at the Apartment we were staying at’ s Bistro Sunday evening with Cam, Briana and young Jayden.

The view from our apartment Ettalong Beach

An early morning start on Monday up at 4.00, pack and pick up Cameron at 6.00 am to drop him of at Sydney airport as he was leaving for Mumbai, India with his work for a week. Early morning Sydney traffic is a nightmare taking us a full two hours to get there from Gosford, then the long trip home.

This weekend I have issues, make that conflicting interests.

Mrs ½ Cup has the rodents entered in shows Saturday and Monday down in Melbourne ( Bulla ) and has requested my help at the show.:dunno:

Andrew is running at the MSCA sprints in the MG F at Winton on Saturday and Sunday and need some pit crew assistance from me.:dunno:

http://msca.net.au/index.php?option=com_registrationpro&view=events&Itemid=331

• Monday the 25 th is ANZAC day and I traditionally attend the dawn service with my Dad ( an ex serviceman ) and it is also a public holiday here as well.:dunno:

• Then there is the West Wing.:dunno:

Watch this space and have a great day.

1/2: i'd say flip a coin, but those are tough choices. my solution would be to get Mrs. 1/2's permission to pass on the Rodent's show so you can take your Dad to your son's race and make him part of the pit crew too.

your trip sounds like it was hectic and fun. I bet you have some days like that on normal workdays so i'm sure you'll get it all back to regular normal soon.

good luck and welcome back

Ditto to Drivesitfar's response, but I don't envy you on this. Seems Mrs. 1/2 is an understanding spouse and whatever solution you work out will be OK, until she needs something really special, LOL.

Sounds like you hit the ground running on the return home after what was a great and busy trip away.

You had better believe it HOTFR8 to top this off our IT dept decided I needed a new lap top as the old one was no longer supported so that's another two days getting the new one back on track, already my AutoCAD is not working.

Drives and Ric we will sort things out I am sure.
My mate popped around tonight and we went through what was required in the West Wing in terms of the garden make over and tree removal that he will tackle tomorrow so hopefully we will have a clean slate to work with after that.

Have a great day and thank you for dropping by.

1/2: good luck with the choices and whose feelings will be hurt or not hurt from them. also I know you are too busy to be sitting at your computer posting pictures so take a ton and post them next month or in June after you have the West Wing rented and you are able to.

it was mid 80's her yesterday and going to be again today before cooling off to 50's and 60's again which is more normal for April in Seattle. Dang I'm thinking I need to find the sun screen.

good luck with all that has been thrown on your plate and work, home and all the commitments and I bet you'd rather be this busy than not because your cup is always 1/2 full. WELL DONE SIR

cheers and have a great day.

Sounds like a good trip away  yeh I feel the same when I take time off work - you still need to get the same amount of work done, just squeeze it in before and after you go on leave :dunno: All the best for your long weekend.

Sounds like a good trip away  yeh I feel the same when I take time off work - you still need to get the same amount of work done, just squeeze it in before and after you go on leave :dunno: All the best for your long weekend.

Thank you Hewey:thumbup:

We had a great trip away and not long enough. The work load stays the same unfortunately. I am really looking forward to the ANZAC day long weekend however I can carve that up and do what one has to do.

Thank you for visiting and have a good one.

Regards

It has been a busy week at work and the decision has been made, no dog shows today or Monday with Mrs 1/2 Cup, no sprint races over at Winton Raceway in the MG F today or tomorrow just uninterrupted Quality Shed Time X 2:thumbup:

I will also be attending the ANZAC day Dawn Service on Monday with Dad.

Its amazing what a few hours can do on the West Wing.

Five self seeded palms, dozens of dead roses bushes, several shrubs and four trees removed on Wednesday by a mate of mine who is a landscape gardener.

Other happenings here, Mrs 1/2 Cup made the decission to rehome our seven year old Australian Silky Terrier - Karma

View media item 35821
Her decision to rehome her has not be made lightly but looking after and caring for five rodents takes lot of work . A retired couple had contacted the breeder looking for a Silky Terrier as they had one a number of years ago and were keen to get another dog.

The breeder interviewed the couple and visited their retirement home in a gated village to assess whether they would be a suitable match apparently you match the people to the dog and not the other way around. Karma being Karma has a personality all of her own, so it was with a heavy heart Mrs 1/2 Cup took Karma to her new home last week.

Mrs 1/2 Cup has been in daily contact with the couple and she has settled in really well and made her new home hers.

I have to say that it is a lot quieter around here.

Now for that QST

No make that a couple of hours in the garden x 2 first up.

Thank you all for dropping by and have a great day.

1/2: always love popping in and seeing what you have to say and show us. OMG that looks awesome and i'm sure it will only keep getting better.

GREAT NEWS that your Karma has made new friends and is getting LOTS of attention without having to share now. I know it probably wasn't easy, but I bet it was for the best and another great move from the 1/2's.

post as you have time and take LOTS of pictures.

WELL DONE SIR

also nicely done with handling all the commitments from all the family members so you can GET R DONE next door.

What an amazing transformation! Great call on cleaning the place up.

xtremek, thank you very much.

The clean up is a must do for us, I want the home to be presentable and a place that you can call home.

I have been working on the remaining roses this morning and it looks like they will survive given some TLC. They are a nice soft orange in colour and really compliment the home when in bloom. I am hoping to get another flush this season before we have to prune them..

The clean up has really opened the block and it is starting to get to a reasonable standard.

And finally the first look inside at the West Wing Storage Facility Annex A

I ran some temporary power to get the roller door up.

With no interruptions today I have been able to kick some goals.

. Lawns mown - again.
. Lawns watered.
. Removed an eyesaw of a garden bed which I will repatriate into lawn.
. Vacuumed and swept Annex A.
. Filled a wheely bin with rubbish, old pots, garden ornaments and old weed mat.
. Pruned and fertilised the roses.
. Mowed our lawns as well.
. Cleaned down and returned with a full tank of fuel, Rockets' ride on across the road.

It is defiantly time to make and install an access gate between the properties I think I must have walked 10 miles back and forth today.

Thanks for dropping by and have a great weekend everyone.
