Thank you drives

The rodents and Shelby are great to have around as much as they can be a pain and get up to mischief at times, they certainly bring our place to life.:)

That's a great score on the bins, you will not know yourself when you get all you fittings sorted. It is amazing how much time you loose looking for stuff that you thought you may or may not have.:headscrat
I pretty satisfied with how mine are all sorted now, mind you there is always room for improvement.

These are some older pics of my small parts storage.

We certainly do get Eagles out here, Wedge Tailed Eagle to be precise, they are just so majestic in flight and awesome to watch.

Many thanks for sharing your pictures of them.

As always have a great day and thanks again for dropping by.

Could you do me a favor and stop being so damn good at everything:bowdown:, you're giving me a complex.

I would never say that xtremek, I am only human and I do have skeletons in my garage that I don't generally share.;)

Devil's advocate here, I see lots of wasted space. Get some more shelves and put them closer together.

Strouty, point taken and thank you.

There is quite a lot of dead space there in particular, I guess with a little rearrangement I could fit another two rows comfortably with out jamming things in to much.

Have a good one and thanks again for your input.

[QUOTENow that sign is a ripper. I will change the timing some what to reflect Shelbys' agility as she would do that in a flat five seconds no problems.

Take two small rodents + garden and add water = a regular occurrence around here. I couldn't be certain that is the secret to their success but definitely is the secret to their cheeky attitude.:)

View media item 57059
Shorty, there is never a dull moment around here let me tell you. Andrew informs me last night that the MG F should be back here this week and ready for assembly, I will just add it to the list.

The West Wing is a rodent free zone, although Shelby helps me out there most nights, she just loves the place.

There's a ton of character in those pics. So given the Coriolis effect down under, do they chase their tails counter-clockwise? :)

1/2: your storage and methods are to be admired that is for certain. I think I've seen Strouty's floor more lately so I think he knows what he's talking about, but you still might have to get your hands in those bins. something to think about when designing storage for the new space.

i'm still hoping to get you a picture of my somewhat ORGANIZED shop that will show how many cabinets and racks and STUFF you can get in a 25 x 25 space and still have room for a trailer or a car.

just an FYI. remember Bob's map with all those great city names he posted earlier? I thought he was pulling our legs pretty hard with his one good arm so I googled and bing searched and no kidding that was a real map and real town names. it also had legitimate reasons for how the town's names came to be. that Bob is AMAZING and i'm still smiling and i'm showing that map to my bride tonight.

Woody: I had to look that one up. too funny. I bet you learned that term when selling some of your time lapse equipment down under and having buyers complain that it was running the opposite direction with the earth's rotation spinning differently than in Canada. :bounce:

Beautiful birds in flight but when on the ground they take along time to get back into the sky. I was a passenger in a car when it hit one once. I think it was just stunned.

That shelving looks well organised.

I totally agree HOTFR8, they are just beautiful in flight.

Thank you on the organisational front, it is getting there and so much easier to find things.

Dennis,

The rodents are just full of life, we have a resident local baby Magpie that torments them like you would not believe.

http://www.birdlife.org.au/bird-profile/australian-magpie

It is just so funny to watch their antics as they are being swooped by the Maggie.:lol_hitti

The Magpie wins every time leaving the rodents just so frustrated.;)

Actually they do chase their tails in an anticlockwise direction, I am guessing its from their Finnish blood lines.:lol_hitti

Thank you again for dropping by and have a great day.

drives, that is the great thing about the GJ it is always great to receive feedback from your peers. Strouty has done a fantastic job and his feedback, as yours and every one else is just so much appreciated and we all are better off for it.

Looking forward to your updates.

Absolutely don't over crowd things. I gave done that and it is way worse, even when organized. As Bill would say negative space is pleasing to the eyes.

Strouty, I totally agree in not overcrowding the shelving.

I am working on my under bench draws at the moment in regard to what works and ultimately what will go where in them. This in it self will free up quite a deal of shelf and peg board space and provide a cleaner feel to the Shed Downunder..

Take away the vice and that looks like it could be in some commercial kitchen.

Catching up here.... That bench looks awesome. I so wish I could have a space such as that.

Thanks guys.

HOTFR8, you could well and truly eat off it as it is, no problem.

Hey 1/2cup, just dropping in to say G'day - I have been keeping up to date with the thread, but just haven't had enough time to comment much lately (work is crazy busy :willy_nil).

Don't be surprised if you read this same (or very similar) post on some other threads (it's much quicker to "cut and paste" than it is to type)

1/2: does that mean the new engine is going in Andrew's MG this weekend? your shop does look sort of like a commercial kitchen and I for one REALLY LIKE IT. having that welding table always ready to work is amazing with all the stuff you have going on. you really don't have FLAT SPACE DISEASE. what I don't understand is how becoming a member of GJ helped cure that disease because I've bought more stuff that gets put on any flat surface I own since I became a member.

maybe once you quit buying and actually find spots for every tool is the quest? i'll keep tuning in and watching for clues on how to find the cure.

have a great weekend and best of luck with the MG

The bench and the draws (Aussie for drawers?) look great. You need to post some pictures of what is inside them, that is where things for me get tough. I spent some time cutting tool shapes out of foam the other day and now I have a nice organized area that is not overcrowded and looks pleasing to the eyes as well.

As for your ugly areas, well they look a lot less ugly than you think. I have had a few ugly areas myself, but I started to get really good at making them disappear by hiding things inside "storage" containers. I am now learning that this one thing is probably causing me the most grief. I am currently working on putting like things with like things so that they are all in the same place. The problem is every time I open a new box, there is more of a jumbled mess I need to sort.

Hope your your work day went well and dinner was good.

The "like thing" and "like purpose" is definitely the way to go. May I suggest getting some empty boxes, label them sell, donate, trash and then your subject matter; electric, plumbing, safety gear, auto, sports, pictures of the Tampa's Fab 4,etc.
Set these on the floor next to your bench, grab a full box stuff and start speed sorting. Don't forget to use the sell, donate, trash boxes!!!! Most of us probably need three each. Once done, you will have an idea of the space requirements for each subject matter.

TB: I know I don't need a vise press, but when I do that is the tool i'll want to use so maybe i'll find the one made and sold in the USA one day or an old one if they made them back when they made my vises. just curious your offset vice doesn't look like a DAWN made one so do tell or is it a DAWN?

Strouty: the Aussies just don't take as many pictures of their flat surfaces filled up, but 1/2 says he's got a handle on it so i'm still watching and learning. your shop is looking great and WELL DONE.

1/2: you know when a vise gets posted on GJ I have to comment and if you want proof you might take a look at the main vise thread with 2100+ of just my posts. I know it's another disease I have that i'm working on and taking any pointers I can from you and the others on how to curb the vice for vises. I hadn't bought any vises for maybe 3 weeks and woke up early today and actually bought 3 but they are pretty small and 2 of them are keepers.

cheers and hope you are enjoying your weekend so far. is Andrew watching, learning and helping with the MG too. sounds like more DAD OF THE YEAR POINTS EARNED to add to your list.

Thank you drives:thumbup:

I have to admit actually joining the GJ ( 4 years and one day ago to be precise ) cured me of flat space disease there and then after seeing some amazing shops here. It gave me the kick in the pants that I needed to sort things out once and for all.

The MG F engine will take back stage to the West Wing this weekend, we have had our first rains here in over a month so no lawns and no gardens for a change.

My storage spaces are a continual work in progress as well and the new shed space will provide a new chapter in terms of storage in the Shed Downunder:thumbup:

We just had a relaxing Friday evening here, Mrs 1/2 Cup cooked up commercial quantities of pumpkin soup and a lovely casserole stew and I pottered in the shed unpacking all of the MG engine bits ready for their final clean and assembly when the time comes.

Drives, I wonder if that only afflicts Americans?

Strouty, Flat Space Disease is a world wide pandemic. You guys haven't seen my desk at work.:shocking:

Shorty I agree whole heartedly, I have found you really have to take the emotion out of the equation when I am sorting my stuff and I always ask around and donate it to who ever needs it more than me before I toss it, I hate waste.

1/2 Cup your that work area is awesome even if slightly staged.

Andrew and Amy are in Melbourne for the weekend so he has left me with it.

Mrs 1/2 Cup is down in Geelong for the day visiting her mother and sisters families.

So for the most part I will left on my Pat Malone today ( Shelby and the Rodents excluded )

drives, I think it's contagious mate! You may have noticed already, but I've posted in Lyndon's thread about the other purchase I made when I bought the vice brake. This purchase was triggered by a picture you posted on Lyndon's thread...

And when I signed up on the H&F website, they gave me a $50 gift voucher, but I had to spend over $300. So thanks to Drives, I got this (and a few other things) too...

TwoBytes , There is nothing like an upwardly mobile work space, even if Strouty can't find his tools.:)

Seriously though have a read through his thread you will find some pretty inspirational ideas for your workshop.

In regards to Fragram tools here is a link to their Web sites.

TwoBytes, the wheels can also be a curse. I can rearrange my shop so quickly that I no longer know where anything is.

I just love it Strouty. I do have to admit to not remembering where stuff is after a clean up, that's why most of mine is labelled now.;)

Thanks for dropping by guys and have a great day.

1/2: i'm still working on the FSD fix and almost have my two benches at home clean and ready so maybe next week i'll take a picture of them empty or with at least some space to work on if I need to. thanks for the encouragement. how's the engine going or are you still prepping for the swap?

TwoB: nice looking XY and I love your offset vise and especially with the vise break. 1/2 should have bought stock in the company selling the vise breaks and maybe I should too because when I find a good one around here to buy i'll promote that more than I did the copper jaws that I might have been part of the reason so many vise owners have them now.

ALL: pictures of copper jaw covers that really help grip stuff when you are using your vise and also doesn't put marks on your project. the copper jaws are a little hard to see on my REED 2C, but they are there if you look pass my mess.

drives looking forward to seeing just how your work space comes up. I must say it is a great feeling to rid yourself of the clutter and have a tidy work area.

I did spend a little time on the MG F engine on the week end basically just cleaning everything down for the final time before I start the assembly in earnest.
Every item and that includes out of the box items as well, needs to be fitted, clearances checked then refitted with the correct tensions on every bolt and nut.
It is a job that you cannot afford to take any chances or short cuts with and your mind needs to be in the right place and focused 110% or I will not even entertain picking up a spanner. So no beers, wine or spirits.
I tackle the reassembly as smaller sub – assemblies, one task at a time until that task is done 100%

I think Hare and Forbes owes me a sellers commission in the form of a discount voucher for the number of vise breaks that our members have brought.

That’s one thing I use a lot and rely on, is soft jaws and have both brass and aluminium sets.

The bulk of the week end was spent on the West Wings’ gardens and lawns. I also spent some time having a look at the electrical installation which I knew would require some work, although it is safe, it is very old for the most part so I have decided to bite the bullet and rewire the whole home. At least that way I will know there will be nothing coming back to bite me down the track.

We have a huge amount of work to do in a short time line, so it will be a matter of prioritizing just what is short term and what can be in the forward look.

Have a great day and thanks for dropping by.

The West Wing is ticking along nicely, we had the power reconnected yesterday and a prospective tenant, a graduate engineer from work, who comes from Melbourne, have a walk through the home last night.

He is keen to move from his current share house in a month or so and that suits us just fine. He was pretty impressed with the home.

My eldest is still going great guns in the MG F and we have decided to schedule the fresh engine change over during the mid season break in racing rather than pushing the envelope and doing it between races.
The only thing that I need to do is get it finished in time.:headscrat

Note to self: Take Mrs 1/2 Cups advice and to take some of that six months of accrued long service leave from work.

Have a great day and thanks for dropping by.
