Wet weekend here. Looks like it will be that way all weekend all along the eastern states of Australia. Time to find a place and do some indoor jobs. Plenty of time on the GJ.

Saturday morning here and we have had some nice steady rain fall here over night and it looks like the East coast of Australia is in for a well deserved drenching over the week end.
Its too wet to mow lawns now so they will just have to wait another week.

I have been out to the Big Green Box store already this morning to get a few things for the West Wing and I will be just pottering in there today.
Mrs 1/2 Cup has now decided that she wants the inside of the home painted now, not that it is all that bad IMHO but it will freshen things up some what. She will be taking on the painting herself.

Still raining here and far to wet to do anything outside. We need the rain. Nearly all tanks overflowing. May be a good day to catch up on some reading, you know all that work related stuff you put off because you have been so busy with everything else.

HOTFR8 I can't say I am going to miss not being able to mow the lawns, the are pretty saturated now.
Inside the West Wing it is, heating on and doing a few dry wall repairs, mostly minor cracking around the cornices due to the fact it is solid brick.
Mark, It has pretty much drizzled all day, nothing too heavy but a nice soaking rain.

By the looks of your list Lyndon its a fair bet you will be inside for most of the day.
While I was in the West Wing I went for another foray under the floor and hopefully that will be the last for while, I thought to myself, self, put in a couple of spare circuits of power for ron ( later on ) another job off the list.
Tomorrow I intend to fit up some new lock arrangements on the West Wing Storage Annex A ( the shed ) just to improve the security a little before we start moving stuff in there.

I intended to Mow this weekend but sadly two wet for that for some time now. In another week it will be just as long again so it can wait. Nice to see the place looking green after being dry for so long here.

HOTFR8, our lawns are not growing that much now but it is nice to see the country a bit greener now.
The West Wing electricals are complete with the exception of the Main Switchboard and metering change over to be done. We have been waiting on a Powercor truck appointment so that they can drop the old supply, we do the changeover, get the install inspected, complete the Prescribed Certificate of Electrical Safety and then reconnect.
Powercor are a little behind so it could be anything up to 20 working days before we can expect a firm date and time.
The change over should only take a day, tops as I have done as much as possible in readiness for the day with out removing the Service fuses. With Smart Meters now you can't disconnect with out the Retailer knowing you have done so.

Lucky you are not waiting for TELSTRA as I heard this week one location out of Bendigo has to wait a month for a meeting to inform them why they do not have a phone connection. They have already waited one month as the first meeting was postponed.

HOTFR8 & Bob, Telstra is a different beast for sure. Although we did get mucked around a bit with our NBN fibre connection and an appointment cancelled, by and large any service difficulties have been repaired and we even received a follow up call to see that things were going ok.
At work we have a dedicated Telstra case manager that can and does make things happen so it makes life easier in that space.
Nothing like a bit of leverage at times Bob.
The most annoying and frustrating service providers are the Retail Power providers and if you don't get all your ducks in a row in terms of paper work and applications they seem to go into this ********* hole and get forgotten.
Powercor, who are our Supply Authority in this neck of the woods are by and large not too bad to deal with, at least you can call and get a response immediately.
On Friday we had an issue with the supply voltage being to high at one of our sites, it was rectified within two hours of us making the call.

shorty, Sadly that situation I not all that uncommon.There is a couple of places not too far from here that are similar in appearance to what is in the video.
Unlike Sydney we do not have regular hard waste collections where stuff that can't fit into a bin is placed on the nature strip or verge down for collection.
We only have our normal waste, recycles and green waste wheelie bins that are collected on a weekly and fortnightly basis respectively. Hard waste like that can be disposed of at our local transfer station but that costs and arm and a leg hence we see a lot of illegal dumping of stuff in the forests around here unfortunately.

A couple of weeks is nothing for a telco, in fact you are doing well. The longest one I had for a client took 9 months to be connected, there were that many faults on the pairs they all just decide it's too hard to fix. Eventually you will get a tech that doesn't mid doing some work and gets it's sorted. (And that is with account executives managing the case too)
Then there is the issues created with the guys doing the NBN work. A few months ago they cut 200 copper pairs in the street - did that ever cause us some pain.
Telstra's current skill is having their project managers run the projects from overseas - they have no idea what they are doing.
I like Bobs story, I've heard similar tails over the years, it all seems to be about how much $$$ the account is worth to the telco in question.

GB, I am hearing you in terms of service levels from Telstra. I often hear tails of grief like that.
When they were putting in the under ground pipes here for the NBN their borer cut through the copper fortunately it was repaired quickly and only disrupted service to about 20 customers.
Misty rain here this morning, the same as yesterday and I tipped out 28 mm in total.
Anyhow back in to the West Wing it is.

Just changing the subject slightly....
I don't know how wet it is there, it's been bucketing done here all night, and we are now up to 124 mm (5") of rain since 9am yesterday. We've got rivers running everywhere in the front and back yard....

When I moved here I had a $1-00 credit for every day the phone was not connected in the house past the day it was promised and that was a good credit in the finish. As 1/2 state TELSTRA are a different company to deal with as all call centres with faults etc are now located in India or the Philippines and that does not make life any easier.
PowerCor on the other hand are very local and when I have an issue I know I will speak to some one local and they have a call centre up the road in Bendigo.
That sort of thing is very sad to see. It does happen but usually the councils step in and things get cleaned up.
Enough rain here overnight to keep me inside again as it is still very damp underfoot and we even have low cloud cover today. If it is any thing like this in 1/2's part of the world I am sure we will see a few updates from that west wing.

Things are getting a bit saturated here, but we are experiencing a few breaks in the clouds this morning.
HOTFR8, I have been working on the ceiling cornices this morning, finished the hallway and did some patch ups on the rendered finish in places ( Stucco ) nothing to exciting.
By the radar it looks like the rain band is to the East of the Great Dividing Range now with another band moving across from the West.
Back to it for a bit now that I have had a cuppa.

No, while Camden is surrounded by flood plain, we are high enough to not get bothered by rising flood water. Mind you I've got rivers running out of both the front gardens, under the carport, and down past (and through) the garden shed into the people's place behind us. All 3 of my tanks are full, and the overflow can't go anywhere but along the surface. We don't have storm water access here (go figure - in the middle of town and all), so we have a big transpiration pit (about 4m deep, 2m wide, and 15m long buried under the back yard). But the pipes that run too it are too small for large events like this, and they overflow. Not my problem (as I've told Council), as it all flows downhill toward the creek about 450m away. Here is the road that the water crosses on it's way to the creek (and a car making it's way through the deluge) :

Power has been out here on the south coast most of the last 2 days, just back on a couple of hours ago. Not much you can do when it is pushing down rain and the electricity is off .

1/2: sorry to hear you are getting all the rain you need in a few days. at least you are getting some and hope it isn't flooding you or the other members that are getting a ton. we usually have 60's and rain in late May early June and it's supposed to be 95 today. should I complain because we don't have AC? I think not.

It is Rian, without doubt.
It is overcast here again today but no rain at all.
drives the rain in some parts has been very welcome and in others it is causing some grief. From what I understand none of our members have been impacted in the flooded areas.
Our daytime temperature today is around 50 F getting down to the 30s of a night. Our primary heating is gas which keeps the home nice and warm with the reverse cycle splits used as supplementary heating not that we need it much.
We are just chipping away with the West Wing, over the weekend I finished prepping a couple of rooms in readiness for Mrs 1/2 Cup to paint amongst some tidy up tasks like fitting a decent lock to the West Wing Storage Annex A and filled the green waste recycle bin from garden clippings as it has its fortnightly pick up this week, the place is looking like someone owns it now.
We have a public holiday next weekend so the extra day should see heaps done.
I guess while the wood is there you should grab it, how does it burn??

Our home has a terracotta tiled roof and we get a little water ingress at times if the rain is belting down, the Shed Down under, the West Wing and the West Wing Storage Annex A are really well sealed.

1/2: fir burns just fine and maybe a bit too quick, but puts out a nice looking flame if that matters to some. in fact if you are able to burn without burn bans in parts of the state that let you a cord of this stuff costs about $350. since we have burn bans all the time and we don't use the fireplace much at all it's only for romantic evenings during the winter or maybe an occasional power outage.
I know it was too hot to be lifting and moving the big rounds today, but I needed to sweat off a few deserts we had this last week while my wife was a mini holiday. the girlfriend of the cement guy i'm hiring to put in my new driveway is actually driving her truck and trailer up here in the morning from an hour away to pick up as much wood as she can haul and I got more than enough for many years in my little pile I moved.
hope the rain stops in case you need to do some outside repairs to get the rental ready for your tenant.
cheers and just made 3 gallons of ice tea after drinking maybe 2 gallons of water today.

another use for the wood is in case my wife gets her wish and we end up building an outdoor fire pit. also my kids like to go to the local beaches where it's legal to start a little bon fire. the pile is out of the way and might last a few years until the next FREE wood deal shows up. I can't recall EVER paying for wood, but then again my Gramps was a logger and I own a few chain saws too.

It looks like this weekend will be focused on the room prep for paint and I want to start moving stuff from the Shed Downunder into the West Wing Storage Facility Annex A amongst a heap of other jobs that need doing.
We have a long weekend here for the Queens Birthday so its an idea opportunity with the extra day.
Drives the bulk of the rain has eased here for the moment I believe we are in for a little more toward the end of the week.
You have got to love a fire pit, nothing nicer and your score with the timber will come in handy.
My sister has one at the rear of her property that backs on to a creek in the bush land beyond the levy bank that protects her place from flooding. We often enjoy a camp oven roast or BBQ on a cold winters night there. Annually we have a bon fire there as well, with the family over the year dropping all there tree trimmings in an huge pile just for the occasion its a great night with all the neighbours joining in as well just because you can.
I have been a little preoccupied with work of late but I am starting to catchup after my few weeks off and believe it or not I have been enjoying the challenge and ticking the boxes which has been very satisfying.

At work we have a dedicated surveys team that do lots of great and innovative stuff.
The area of what we look after covers about 1/3 of our state of Victoria in terms of water delivery so mapping and survey work is a huge part of that with every thing from Bathometric, Cadastral and Global Information Services that links to our Asset Management system Maximo.
These guys are up there in terms of technology and are very progressive in that regard.
They have just received board approval for the purchase of a Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or Drone with high resolution cameras to assist in their work, enabling them to access in accessible areas that would normally take days to do and eliminate the Health and Safety risks associated with their work.
From our teams perspective ( Electrical and Mechanical ) the possibilities for us as another tool for Asset Assessment are endless.
In Australia it has been mandatory to be licenced for remotely piloted aircraft as distinct from a model aircraft where different criteria apply.

To cut a long story short, given my aviation background and prior training I was asked by the Surveys team to through my hat in the ring to obtain my operators and controllers certification, so I thought to myself " self why not."

The actual certification will require some class room time at the local Training Centre with both theory and practical examinations to follow next month.

1/2, I think from what I have read of your thread so far.....you will thoroughly enjoy the drones! I have had a little to do with them, the different perspective that is obtained from altitude is really great. Inspecting the top of poles, the rim of water reservoirs, pipelines, erosion from outfalls, it is endless. We even used them for mundane things like rounding up stock from the hilly areas that can be dangerous on bikes and quads. So all I can say is go, go and enjoy.
