Oh no, what have I done!!! :willy_nil

Believe it or not, we actually get two long weekends in a row here in Canberra!
(Just to make people hate us even more maybe :dunno:)

We had Monday off this week for "Family and Community Day", and next Monday is "Labour Day".

Unfortunately I'm a contractor, so I don't get paid for public holidays. I still love a 3 day weekend though!

I had a pretty good win last weekend, and made the most of the extra day off, I'll get some pics up on my thread soon.

Thanks mate, I'll check it out. I've got a mate who's got one, so I might borrow it and give it a go before I invest.

Mat, unreal two long weekends in a row

Great score on the playhouse.

It would be a good idea to try before you buy an Atom Lawn Edger, let us know how you like it..

1/2: in case you want to join in as one of the advisors or BS ers on the new thread i started in FREE PARKING please do. i figured an AUSSIE that knows AUSTRALIAN RULES FOOTBALL wouldn't start a thread asking about how to play it and the rules so i did in honor of your holiday.

here's the link:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=340510

i made a little progress yesterday on my pergola and back at it today. i'll post a couple pictures of the finished product here if you might want to see it. also if i do this much sanding again i'm going to buy a festool or fein with that vacuum attachment because i look like a pile of sawdust when i'm done for the day. the main reason i didn't re stain it in place was i sort of screwed up and didn't raise the steel mounts for the posts up off the ground. so i took it apart and cut 1.5 inches off of each bottom and put on some nasty smelling Copper Green. good thing i did because the little ants had already moved into a couple of the beams and were starting to make homes in them. no ants any longer cause i nuked them with HOT SHOT and with all the sanding i'm sure they ran for the hills if they could.

cheers

Thank you drives for the new thread, with the Grand Final on this week end I am sure we can add heaps of commentary..

Fantastic work on the Pergola:thumbup:

I agree a vac attachment is a worth while investment, do you use a dust mask?

I never sand in the shed, I just hate the dust at the best of times.

Still crunching out the To Do List for this week end.

Thank you one and all.

7.6 hours to go to pulling the pin here at work for the long weekend...:rocker:

The three day long week end is here..:3gears:

Now where was I:dunno:

The To Do List:

1.Procurement:

· First up Friday morning with a trip to the Big Green Box Store and a local hardware store, usually I like to be first in the door and get everything I need and shop in peace, with no crowds, no parking issues and at my own leisure. Completed.

2. The West Wing:

· Install front door draught stop. Completed.
· Install some more trim that Mrs ½ Cup insisted in us doing. Personally I thought it looked ok. Any way its done..
· Put up two shear curtain tracks, just when I thought the curtains were done and dusted.
· I should knock all of this over in a few hours hopefully. Make that a whole day as Mrs 1/2 Cup has moved the goal posts........yet again.:eyecrazy:
. I decided to fit a third hinge to the front door due to its weight -Completed and NO I did not clock the screws.

3. The Rover K Series build: ( Quality Shed Time )

· Fit some ancillary bits and pieces, like pressure and temperature sensors that arrived during the week.
· No news yet as to when the new cam shafts are due to arrive from the UK. Andrew called this morning and said they are on their way...
· Fabricate two dial indicator brackets to assist in dialling in the cams.

4. The Shed Downunder: ( Quality Shed Time )

· I should get a start on the under bench drawers for the timber topped bench, I finished the drawer slide mounting brackets last weekend and are anticipating that the drawer slides will be here in the post today. The stainless handles arrived but not the drawer slides.

. Picked up all the timber I need for the new drawer cases.

5. The not negotiable:

· Walk Shelby, she is moulting big time at the moment, losing her winter coat and it’s a case of vacuuming the shed floor on a weekly basis.
· It has been a tad damp under foot this last week so the decision to do the lawns will be delayed until Sunday. There has been quite a bit of flooding in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia over the last few weeks. Although the Goulbourn River at Shepparton has dropped below Minor flood level it is not going to take much rain to bring them up to levels that may cause some more grief.
· If I get time I need to mulch and fertilise under our orange tree in the front lawn. It starts to blossom in two weeks’ time and loves a feed. Usually a pelletised chook manure know as Dynamic Lifter, Blood and Bone and some trace elements ( man does that mix bring tears to your eyes ) then I cover it with a few bails of wheat and pea straw then wet it in well to kill the smell that lasts for a few days. The neighbours really love me at this time of year.
· Andrew is having his last run at Sandown Motor Raceway in the Super Sprint Series this weekend before we do the engine swap.
· Have the TV on in the Shed to follow the footy grand final.

# Subject to change without notice. ( see below )

· We are on Baby watch so any time in the next week we are expecting the arrival of Grandson #2. For Cameron, Briana and Jayden ( Grandson #1 )
· In four weeks’ time we are expecting the arrival of Grandson #3. For Andrew and Amy, their first.
· Mrs ½ Cup has been fussing around big time over the last little while like all good Grandmothers do and we have baby stuff everywhere at the moment.

Anyway its  oclock, thank you for the visit..

Edit - Hourly update

1/2 Cup,
I'm like you getting out to the big green box store early so I can look around at my leisure.
We have had a bit of rain as well so I took advantage of fertilising my lawn, plants, orange and lemon trees. I also use dynamic lifter and blood and bone. My wife and kids hate the smell. My wife hates it even more as she can't open the house as the smell is bad. But the plants and garden love it.
As for the footy I'm more interested motor sport sorry.
Bring on Bathurst. With this being the last year of V8s category it should be great.
Have a great long weekend we have Monday of.
Don't forget daylight saving starts this weekend.

Aaron, its the way to go and I resist the urge to try the sausage sizzle:thumbup:

I am not the most popular kid on the block when it comes to using Dynamic Lifter let me tell you.:shocking:

I am with you bring on Bathurst..

Day light savings comes around all too quickly so the clocks I didn't reset six months ago will be good to go. Not to mention the extra hours we gain on the solar feed in...:lol_hitti

1/2 cup, I've got to mention this because it seems so out of place in your thread.

"Day light savings comes around all too quickly so the clocks I didn't reset six months ago will be good to go."

Doesn't that seem a little out of place from a man that clocks his screws?????:dunno: OCD apparently doesn't run that deep in your blood.;)

I hope you have a great productive and somewhat relaxing weekend.

I love the reminder to change the clocks for Day Light Saving time.

HOTFR8, yep it looks like a wet one so I will work around things and adjust things to suit..:thumbup:

Edit I tipped out 18mm of rain today, windy and cold.

15 mm of rain here at 9 am yesterday and as yet to check the gauge today and I expect it will have about the same today.

Going to be a long wet weekend.

HOTFR8, Do as I do, leave half of your clocks on daylight savings time, heaps less stress.

As I am sitting here and looking around there is eight clocks I can see.

. Dining room has three ( 2 antiques )
. Computer.
. Phone.
. The lounge has three, one on the wall, one on the DVD player and one on the surround sound.

:eyecrazy:

It started fine and sunny here this morning and within 1/2 hour it was grey, overcast and drizzling rain.

I measured 18 mm for the last 24 hours. Its wet, real wet..

Another 8.5 mm of rain and still falling. Not much will happen today here.

As for D.L.S.T. most computers and phones should update on Auto. I do not touch the antique clocks but find it takes me an hour to change most of them. It would be easier just to stay D.L.S.T. all year.

Good points. For me , living in NSW non-DST is GMT + 10 ( = Eastern std time = EST so easier to calculate on the fly than GMT +11 DST, just do the calculation mentally then factor in DST in Summer) . I leave every single clock on EST all year round including all my vehicles. After years and years of schooling , I am surprisingly quick at adding "1" to any number :lol_hitti
Exceptions : computers , phones set to automatically update; bedroom alarm clock has a button you just press to toggle between current time and DST... keeps me sane life is too short otherwise !!!

Coolabah, I am with you on that score:thumbup:

GMT + 10 is a no brainer.

There are a couple of clocks one in the lounge and one in the dinning room that I will not have to change..

Way back in time when I was a Boy Scout we were taught to track time by the sun, I still do it today and you will be surprised just how accurate it is..

Oh well I will say I have lost an hour this weekend fixing all those clocks and then I will lose another hour next year when I set them all back.

1/2, Anything good come from you day off? Was it to wet or did you get any QST ?
Weather here was miserable most of the day.

HOTFR8 I think its time ( pardon the pun ) to buck the status quo and leave at least a few clocks as they are, you do get used to it.;)

I spent the bulk of to day in the West Wing.

I installed new skirting boards in the toilet and laundry at Mrs 1/2 Cups insistence, fitted some trim to the kitchen just to tidy the base boards up, fitted an additional hinge to the front door, removed and cleaned the security door with the pressure wash for her lady ship so she can paint the door frame as you do.

It was pretty wet and miserable here as well, although we did have a few sunny breaks. Lots of road closures around Wangaratta due to flooding.

http://www.visitwangaratta.com.au/

I have managed a little QST tonight making up some brackets for the under bench drawers on my go to work bench..

View media item 37592
Andrew and Amy dropped by with another load of Baby stuff, just so that all good grand parents are prepared..;)

That's it in a nut shell really.

Thanks guys yet again, I trust you are having a good one..

Andy, you never miss an opportunity do you?

1/2 cup, so without having to mow you should have more time to work on getting your clocks straightened out.

Or working on the engine;)

While you're looking forward to warmer weather, our summer was so hot and humid it was hard to do much of anything. But the last few days have been outstanding here, 6C this morning at my house. Still going to be 24C. We have quite an overlap in DST, our is not ending until 6-11!

Enjoy the warming weather. I'm looking forward to cooler weather with eagerness.

1/2, the weekend is looking to be a fine time for us.
The temp yesterday and today was just above wet! The atmosphere was damp! But the mood is happy. We have been working hard between rain storms to get all our servicing done...but the month will be one day behind due to the rain. You know what I mean...wet weather, slippery plastic septic lids, sewer/methane gas, live exposed electrical....any body see something wrong with this safety triangle. So be it, we can catch up latter on.
Tomorrow is our niece's wedding and its inside. We are staying in town as it is cheaper than 2 taxi from home to event and back. Then Sunday I turn 55, so I might be over the legal limit to drive a motor vehicle, of any type. And we have Monday to be festive, recuperate and relax.
So I hope you all have a good weekend as well, otherwise I will feel guilty.

:lol:I'm thinking that's the speed limit, not the legal limit for driving. According to my driving age grandchildren, 55 is far past the safe driving age except for motorized wheel chairs.

Andy, 20 to 30 c is just fine for me, I don't do HOT. We are fortunate in this neck of the woods that we rarely have the humidity to contend with as ours is more a clear heat.
A few sunny days would be quite welcome down here at the moment..

Terrick, Our winter works have been severely hampered with all the rain we have had. We have doubled our September rain fall averages, infact the same can be said for the last few months.

You certainly have some issues to contend with on your Safe Work Method Statements that for sure..

All the best with your nieces wedding today, don't over do it..;)

And happy birthday for Sunday.

Sounds like you will need that extra day to recuperate..

Its a small world our youngest celebrates his then as well.

Your thread is moving along pretty fast now 1/2 cup. Plenty going on.

Was blowing a gale all day up here until mid afternoon, just lucky it was blowing the sawdust away from the saws and not in my face.

1/2: sorry to say i didn't get to see the AFL championship game, but happy to hear you and FR8's Western Bulldogs won. sounds like it was a good game and had Lyndon chewing his drink glasses instead of his fingernails. congrats

my wife kidnapped me and we ended up in a fun little waterfront town not too far from us checking out some good eats and some great art. i posted a few pictures of some of the cool stuff we saw over on the "Get Healthy" thread and here's the link since you don't need to lose weight you might not have seen it much. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=298568

also daylight savings is kinda like robbing Peter to pay Paul if you know what i mean. so we might get a little daylight earlier i really hate the middle of December and January when it gets dark at 3 or 4:00. I don't wear a watch cause i usually have my cell phone with a clock on it, but changing the car, range, microwave clocks need to get changed. i remember selling more than a few homes where the 12:00 was still blinking the VCR or the stove or microwave that the owner had been using for years and never ever even set the clock on them.

i haven't set an alarm for years, but it seems like i'm up way before most people are anyway.

hope you are getting a few of the to do's done and some of the smelling the roses or was all the time given to the AFL game yesterday.

cheers

Drives just reminded me why changing the clocks twice a year is so trivial in my life. I have to reset a bunch of clocks every time there is a power outage. Seemed like that was happening a couple of times a month in 2015 -- down to about once a month now. That's probably why all those clocks were blinking 12:00 -- no one there to reset them after a power outage.

My routine is to go to the garage and check the battery-powered Atomic Clock and set the microwave, stove, phone system and then the oversize digital clock in the master bedroom. My wife sets her radio alarm clock herself. Doing that 15- to 25-times a year makes the two times I have to change a few extra clocks in the cars and house trivial. Of course I do spend at least a month a year driving around in the car with the time an hour off. Rarely causes a panic attack thinking I'm late for an important appointment.

Bob: sorry to hear your power goes out all the time. probably one of those issues you have to put up with to have warm weather all year long. i haven't paid real close attention, but sounds like this last year you haven't had any major hurricanes down your way or do we up in the north only hear about the ones that take lives and homes? i used to set my clocks 5 or 10 minutes ahead so i wouldn't be late to an appointment, but when my wife started setting her alarm clock 30 minutes ahead i really didn't know the actual time prior to computers being set by some magic switch. my pager used to be my watch.

Great point about the power going out and setting all the things with clocks on them to the blinking 12:00 and that might have been the reason for a few, but there were people living in most of them that didn't know how to set the clock or didn't care that it always blinked at them.

Your thread is moving along pretty fast now 1/2 cup. Plenty going on.

Was blowing a gale all day up here until mid afternoon, just lucky it was blowing the sawdust away from the saws and not in my face.

Cheers GB.

GB, I have trouble keeping up with this thread, let alone all that goes on in the GJ:thumbup:

There is always plenty to do around here, stuff that I have to do and stuff that I would like to do but either way I enjoy what I do..

We had four seasons in one day here yesterday, cloudy, a little windy at times, misty rain at times with the odd sunny break. The forecast is looking like more rain today not that we need it right now.

There are a number of road closures around here due to flooding. It hasn't impacted to much in Shepparton although a few weeks ago we were at the minor flood level on the river which has dropped away significantly in recent days.

http://traffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au/

Some areas of the state copped it pretty badly a couple of weeks ago which saw homes and businesses inundated.

I don't wear a watch cause i usually have my cell phone with a clock on it, but changing the car, range, microwave clocks need to get changed. i remember selling more than a few homes where the 12:00 was still blinking the VCR or the stove or microwave that the owner had been using for years and never ever even set the clock on them.

i haven't set an alarm for years, but it seems like i'm up way before most people are anyway.

hope you are getting a few of the to do's done and some of the smelling the roses or was all the time given to the AFL game yesterday.

cheers

drives, the game was a good one and a real nail biter for sure. I do not normally watch a full telecast but this had me on the edge of my chair. Even Mrs 1/2 Cup was glued to it for the last few minutes of the game which is in un heard off..

You have had a great day out, the art work looks a treat. Maybe you should take up your wife's challenge and whip up a few nice pieces like those.;)

I am hearing you in regards to daylight saving time at least two of our clocks are right because I never change them.

At least the computers, phone and some of our AV stuff look after them selves;)

I am not an alarm type person either, the body clock does it all for me.

I have been chipping away with things and even managed a Nana nap for 1/2 hour yesterday. I had the TV and computer on in the Shed for the game.

Thank you guys yet again, the week end wash up to follow.

Bob, we would be lucky to have six power outages in a year, that's incredible.:shocking:

Were we are situated in terms of the power net work plays a big part in that. As you get further out from on the network around here the outages are a little more frequent.

drives, I have to say my Dad struggles to reset clocks or anything that involves reading instruction he gets a little lost and invariably we do it for him.

The week end wash up so far:

1.Procurement:

· First up Friday morning with a trip to the Big Green Box Store and a local hardware store, usually I like to be first in the door and get everything I need and shop in peace, with no crowds, no parking issues and at my own leisure. Completed.

2. The West Wing:

· Install front door draught stop. Completed.
· Install some more trim that Mrs ½ Cup insisted in us doing. Personally I thought it looked ok. Any way its done..
· Put up two shear curtain tracks, just when I thought the curtains were done and dusted. Maybe today.
:dunno:
· I should knock all of this over in a few hours hopefully. Make that a whole day as Mrs 1/2 Cup has moved the goal posts........yet again.:willy_nil

. I decided to fit a third hinge to the front door due to its weight -Completed and NO I did not clock the screws.

2 A. WEST WING UNPLANNED STUFF:

. Removed, scrubbed and pressure washed the front security door.

. Test run the dishwasher on the rear veranda and cleaned it out. I found that it leaked from the drain hose as well as the pump well. Luckily the pump well was an easy fix as the mounting screws were loose. I will need to replace the drain hose as well as the door gaskets. Other than that I goes quite well.

. Sanded down the bathroom vanity and gave it a quick coat of Danish Oil, just to freshen things up a little.

. Replace the tap handles in the laundry sink. Every time Mrs 1/2 Cup goes to the hardware store she finds something more for me to replace.
:willy_nil

3. The Rover K Series build: ( Quality Shed Time )

· Fit some ancillary bits and pieces, like pressure and temperature sensors that arrived during the week. Completed.
· No news yet as to when the new cam shafts are due to arrive from the UK. Andrew called yesterday morning and said they are on their way...
· Fabricate two dial indicator brackets to assist in dialling in the cams. Maybe today.
:dunno:

Oh well, there is always next week end.

. Picked up all the timber I need for the new drawer cases. Completed.

5. The not negotiable:

· Walk Shelby, she is moulting big time at the moment, losing her winter coat and it’s a case of vacuuming the shed floor on a weekly basis. As you do..
Situation Normal.
There is always next week end so our nieghbours get a reprieve for now.
· Andrew is having his last run at Sandown Motor Raceway in the Super Sprint Series this weekend before we do the engine swap.
· Have the TV on in the Shed to follow the footy grand final. Great game.:thumbup:That was Saturday, today we have the NRL Grand Final between a Sydney based team, the Sharks and the Melbourne Storm it should be a another great game..

· Mrs ½ Cup has been fussing around big time over the last little while like all good Grandmothers do and we have baby stuff everywhere at the moment.:willy_nil

No news on the baby watch front to this point in time...

Have a great day and thank you for dropping by..

You're making me tired

Your tired Andy, I am a little buggered and worn out myself.

You have been busy your self I see.

While I had the pressure washer out I have just done some spring cleaning on the front veranda here, moved every thing, scrubbed and pressure cleaned it all.

Mrs 1/2 Cup has been doing some detail work in the West Wing, she also wanted the brass knobs on the bathroom vanity polished as you do.:eyecrazy:
So that's done for her.

Not a lot of QTS in the pure sense of the word.

Thanks again for dropping by.

The NRL Grand Final is on a little later so I will put my feet up then..

You are a machine. Like John and Andy said, you're making me tired, and I just finished breakfast. Great job as usual.

1/2: you might want to start off your day watching a little of the Ryder Cup cause i think the US team might actually win it this year. crossing fingers and toes and heck i think we have more vice captains than players, but there have been some amazing shots so far. while you were checking off more things off your to do list yesterday than i get done in a week i couldn't leave the TV and quit watching the Ryder Cup. keep up the good work even if you make some of us look bad.

sorry i forgot it's your Monday so maybe you'll have to sneak updates on the Ryder Cup off the computer on your breaks.

Cheers

Steve, the power grid is actually pretty robust in this part of Florida but we have a weather problem. We have severe thunderstorms on average 80 days a year with 25.3 strikes per square mile and 1.45 million lightning strikes in the state. A lot of the storms pass without knocking the power out but 26 or so direct hits in my neighborhood is just part of living on a peninsula known as the other Sunshine State (go QLD).
