Hey 1/2cup, I've just caught up on the last couple of weeks of the thread...

All, just a quick one and pics to follow as soon as I can.

We became proud Grandparents for the second time today.

With the arrival of Isaac Roy ( after my grand father to keep the family tradition and memories alive ) to my second son Cameron, wife Briana and brother to Jayden

I don't even know his birth weight :dunno:

Both doing well.:)

Mrs 1/2 Cup is making the 9 hour trip up to Gosford which is just a little North of Sydney to be there as all good Grandmothers do as I type this. I have been relegated to home duties and rodent watch for the next few days.

As always, thank you..

Proud as punch...

Great news, a belated congratulations to you and your family.

All,

The mythical and long lost Cam Shafts arrived today from Piper Cams for the Rover K Series build.:thumbup:

Now for the bad news::shocking:

Despite my best efforts when I set the head up with the other cam shafts we had and allowed plenty of clearance for each lobe to the head casting, these are the bump sticks from hell.:shocking:

The additional lift of these cams the lobes actually hit the head castings.:shocking:

Long story but the short form version, it means removing and stripping the head, providing extra relief in the head to accommodate the additional lift, clean and reassembly, new stretch bolts and new head gasket.

The joys of an engine build..

That's some not-so-great news, that must be very disheartening at this stage of the build.

The bench is looking good so far with the black legs/frame and that beautiful wood top. The stainless draws are really going to set it off nicely. You have a good eye for making these look and work good.

I agree 100%, the bench is looking great.

The bench looks fantastic 1/2 Cup. Tell the Mrs. Congrats on the rodent show wins!

Thank you Coop, appreciated..

I certainly will pass on your congratulations for sure..

rmalkow, thank you.

The bench makeover has come up better than I expected and blends in well with the others:thumbup:

Mark, and thank as well.

We have to take that on the chin but those new cam shafts are pretty mean when I comes to the lift let me tell you.

We lifted the head yesterday and went back to all things Cylinder Head and Lumpy Cam Shafts 101. While it is stripped I will be doing some further relieving work to where the mechanical lifters end up at full lift to ensure sufficient clearance as well, which wasn't an issue with the previous cams.

I am enjoying the Bathurst 1000 telecast at the moment with no real dramas as yet.

Thank you one and all for your visits, have a good one.

Bad luck on the cam clearance. If they are that big also double check coil bind as well as clearance from the retainer to valve seal at full lift.

Dan, thank you.

Seeing the bench was getting the new drawers I thought it only fitting to give the top a bit of a spruce up while I was on the go. It took a whole 10 minutes to do with just a wipe over and a good coat of Danish Oil. No sanding at all. This was my first bench build some 25 years ago, the top is really starting to develop a nice patina now.

The rodent needs a quick foot up the backside , the funny thing he hasn't touched it since but sure as eggs that if I top dress it the dirt would be out in a nono second. Grrrrrrrrrrrr

Paul_VR6 thank you for your tip, much appreciated :thumbup:

I will be doing just that..

This build certainly has been steep learning curve for me and it is things like you have pointed out that in a normal build you would not even give a second thought to, I thank you again..

Have a great day and thank you for your visit..

We'll be waiting to hear.............but one must first take care of SHMBO.:tantrum2:;)

My money's on a possum. . .

Lyndon
Possum free at present. . [emoji3]

Maybe all this talk of clocking hinge screws and precision measuring garden edging helped things along?! [emoji12]

All, Sorry to disappoint but there will be no possums, nothing to do with lawn edges, clocked screws, rodents and roos.:D

I turn the big 60 on Sunday and at my age I do not need any fuss or fanfare about a birthday.

Mrs 1/2 Cup let the cat out of the bag last night that the kids, Cameron, Briana, Jayden and our newest grandson Isaac have decided to make their way down from Sydney to stay with us for a week.:rocker: In the West Wing..

Just awesome:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Just when I thought you could not have so much fun at work after the Drone training, this just adds to the list.:rocker:

If you remember we have been setting up a new 3 axis plasma at work.

Will you be able to use it for personal projects? Even if you have to pay for consumables that would be nice [emoji1303]

Niels we are permitted to use all our equipment for personal use, however there is some very strict rules around doing so.

They are in a nut shell:

1. That there be no commercial gain.

2. Not done in work hours.

3. You pay for all consumables.

4. You are trained and deemed competent in the use of that equipment.

So its a real good deal in that regard..

Thank you for your visit and have a great day..

I'm glad to hear who the first tenants of the West Wing will be. Enjoy the time of their stay. Fanfare or not I'm wishing you an early Happy Birthday. I hope it brings a day of wonderful things even more than having the little guy around.

I WANT ONE OF THOSE THINGS. Man that thing is just awesome. I'm sure it took awhile to cut out that sign but what a nice job. What do you think I can get one for?? A couple hundred bucks? How about trading the WOC for it.:lol_hitti

And remember something Mr. 1/2 cup, sometimes we have to sacrifice our desires to make those around us happy. And maybe it makes Mrs. 1/2 cup happy to make a fanfare for you. Just something to keep in mind.:dunno:

Hi 1/2

Sounds like a very fair deal to me. Employer isn't out on hours and consumables and knows people using the machine know what they are doing, and you get a plasma table when you need it!

Excellent!

1/2: that machine might be cooler than a Drone and would love to have access to one. that first video with the guy's shop sign cut out was pretty nice and give you any ideas for the SHED?

DLC: i'm betting Mrs. 1/2 is spiffing up and getting things just right over in the WEST WING for the kids and the NEW GRANDSON, but i'm sure 1/2 Cup will have a nice 60th birthday celebration this weekend too.

ALL: gotta get things buttoned up outside cause storms and rain predicted for at least a week and probably more so FALL is here again. sad, but i sort of like a 4 seasons climate.

cheers

Dan, thank you very much.

To be honest I am not sure what the unit cost, I will sus that out.:dunno:

Or corporate policies and procedures would prevent a trade for a WOC.:lol_hitti

Great advice and I will take that on board and just go with the flow..

Niels Its a top deal, so long as it is not abused in anyway and then the party is over for every one..

All the same what is on the fun (work) list tomorrow ?

HOTFR8, I am truly sorry to disappoint but I am stuck behind a computer tomorrow.:headscrat

Some times you just have to take the good with the bad, anyway

. I have three technical specifications to complete for some electrical work we are putting out for public tender. They are nearly done and dusted.

. A commissioning document to review and provide comment on for the Stock and domestic pump station that we have up graded for the Winton Wetlands near Benalla.. This has been done by a consultant engineering firm so you have to go over it with a fine tooth comb.

http://www.wintonwetlands.org.au/

. Contract payments.

. A meeting with our Procurement team to sort some contractual issues. Now that can do your head in at times..

. A meeting with a project manager from Demag Cranes who do a fair bit of our crane maintenance.

. When it get 5 I also have to review and update our Electrical Technical Standards documentation. This is not urgent so I will get to it when I can.

That's about it realy:headscrat

So not much that would spin your wheels about but its nice to be able to put your stamp on things..:thumbup:

Cheers and thank for dropping by...

Posting more stuff to tease us no doubt.

Seriously I did not read the rest as we all know you have so much fun at work. As I recall a post with Vehicles set up as Christmas decorations some time ago and what about the Work Go Cart Challenge!
View media item 46136View media item 62064Come on 1/2 we all know work is great fun for you what ever you do.

Still stirring the pot here (or is that the 1/2Cup of milk). :bounce:

Having said that what is a job if you do not enjoy what you do and get some pirks (I hope every one knows that word). When you do not enjoy your job and what you do then it is no fun going to work.

So stuck behind the computer I take it we will see more to enjoy.

Hey Steve, I'm not sure if I'll have internet access for the next few days - so I'll follow Dan's lead and send you an early "Happy Birthday" for Sunday.

I'll actually be in Victoria - mainly Melbourne, but I'll be in Ballarat (and possibly Daylesford) on Saturday. So I'll face North and shout "Coo-ee" (then I'll do the same in the opposite direction for Simon).
