What is this topic doing on page 4 ?
OK. Just to update 1/2 is going along slowly and not at his usual pace. Treatment has really slowed him down and it is an effort to do many things.
I sent him some photos yesterday to cheer him up and I got a pretty good response but like every thing it is an effort for him given all he is dealing with at present. Four hours travel to treatment as we all know would not be enjoyable when you are not well.

1/2: sorry i've haven't made time to log on GJ this summer to read threads and post. just now hearing you are not well so i'm sending my prayers and best wishes. last time i was on GJ i know you had a cold and the weather was starting to get a bit chilly, but it sounds like after reading a few posts that maybe it's a bit more than that.
i'm back to ask you lots more questions if you feel up to posting more about anything you choose to cause when you are resting you are still busier than most of us on our good days.
GET WELL SOON!!
Guys, thank you one and all so much
I was summoned to the docs today and he had read the results from yesterdays CT Scan and it is a collapsed left lung, I have been referred to a specialist and it looks like an op in the next week is quite on the cards
One good thing about all this I get to use up some of the 12 months sick leave I have accrued after I get over this on some QST again...
Thanks again and enjoy your day...![]()

Today is the first time in a month or so I have had enough energy to be able to concentrate to actually put a post together, my journey so far:
Stepping back to my last post ( 6520 ) my GP referred me to a oncology specialist following the results of the CT Scan and blood tests.
Following yet even more scans and in less than 24 hours I was on the operating table undergoing a Bronchoscopy the results of which confirmed the collapsed lower part of my left lung, infection in the lung and Cancer in the Lymph Nodes.
To cut a whirlwind month or so into a paragraph or less it goes like this:
• Three weeks of Chemotherapy here in Shepparton as a sometimes inpatient and a part time out patient then:
• 10 daily sessions of Radiation Therapy spread over three weeks ( with weekend release ) at the new Albury Cancer Clinic a two hour drive from here, as an inpatient.
• Blood tests and more blood tests.
• Scans and more scans.
• I now have a collection of medications that would rival any drug store.
My first round of treatment is now completed with further scans and bloods next week to assess its effectiveness and determine if more is required.
The specialists are very happy with my progress so far even though I still cannot speak very well due to the enlarged lymph impacting on my voice box.
For those of you reading this that have been personally or have familly, loved ones and friends touched by Cancer you will no doubt understand that the treatments have some pretty unpleasant side effects that can last for weeks after the treatment is completed. I might add that not every one experiences the same side effects.
So this is how the treatment has effected me personally, I am lucky in many respects that I have gotten off pretty lightly compared to some of the other patients I have crossed paths with.
• A low blood cell count after the first Chemo requiring an infusion that has corrected things now.
• Calcium and Potassium levels were up the creek but we are on top of that now.
• I am still very prone to any infection.
• Fatigue, at the moment I would struggle to fight my way out of a wet paper bag even just taking a shower is an effort.
• Difficulty in maintaining any period of concentration.
• I am starting to see quite a bit of hair loss now.
• Loss of appetite, over the last few months I have lost just on 20 kg ( I could have done loosing a few kgs in any case ) and it has been a struggle just to maintain the status quo.
• Nausea, fortunately I think I have escaped the worst of it.
• Mouth ulcers - as above.
• Diarrhoea - yes
• Constipation - yes but learning manage that one. ( hurt, pain and agony )
• Taste changes - about the only thing I can tolerate eating or drinking is high protein supplements, diluted lemonade, chocolate, ice cream and soft sweets ( note to file - all approved by the Dietician )
• As the radiation has been concentrated around my throat it actually burns and blisters the oesophagus and is extremely painful to swallow anything but I have some meds to help with that but it is still not easy by any stretch.
So that's where I am at for the moment, just going with the flow so to speak.
Every day I can notice small improvements in my overall well being and I know we are heading in the right direction.
The support both Mrs 1/2 Cup & I have received from every one and I mean absolutely every one has just been so overwhelming I don't know where to begin.
Out here we have a terrific Cancer Support Network and we cannot thank them enough for what they have done to make the journey that much easier for us.

I will pop in from time to time as I can. Heck I have some catching up to do.
Sincerely thank you one and all...![]()
