Man that Model A is beautiful. Good thing its an ocean away from me or I'd be talking you into making that a cool hot rod. But it will be real sweet restored as well.

"I am just a normal Aussie bloke with a normal Aussie back yard shed who loves doing stuff.:)"

I would like to think that would describe me....but my shed and range of pursuits therein seem humble in comparison.

I love the Ajax/Dawn screw jack stands under the front of the A. My dad used a set of these for 60+ years, and I'm finding it difficult to track down another original set.

Bob, thank you.

The A has been a labour of love over many years. Time has been my biggest hurdle ( retirement is looking better every day )

Is assembly all the A needs? It looks great, Legendary 1/2 Cup.

Andy, thank you.

The Model A To Do List to follow..

Ralf99 I guess we at all just normal Aussie blokes when its all said and done..
The important thing is to enjoy what you do...

Dawn actually still make those same screw jacks, they are great.
Mine are at least 50 years old and still have the original decals on them.
They are getting hard to get, you do not see them on EBAY very much and if you do they go for ridiculous prices. I brought mine from a good friend and neighbour for $40.00 the pair.

Thank you one and all, have a great day..

jon04 thank you..

I really do not have a lot of option when it comes to over doing things as this old body soon lets you know when I have hit the rev limiter..

Mark, thank you as well..

Its little by little in every sense of the word and baby steps, we will get there.. Mrs 1/2 Cup goes crook at me if I do any way..

Mark, Andrew is spot on:thumbup::thumbup:

Strouty, thank you..

I do luv my Model A

Andy, you are embarrassing me big time:lol_hitti

I am certainly no where near worthy of any status. I am just a normal Aussie bloke with a normal Aussie back yard shed who loves doing stuff.:)

Pics to follow..

HOTFR8, you are spot on, I still regret selling many of my cars/motorbikes in the past and the Model A would be no different.

Interesting in regards to the Asbestos issue and imports, I will do some research on that one.:headscrat

I am dodging the swell head let me tell you..

Andrew
, I don't have to look to far for projects, if I retired now and was a little fitter I recon I would A) never get bored and B) have enough to fill the rest of my days in.:eyecrazy:

Thank you "]Bobby,

Your comments are just so appropriate and spot on:bowdown:

drives, thank you.

Yes the radiator was a precursor to the K Series build

Pics to follow:thumbup:

Being the second cycle of Chemo I now know what to expect so I am not delving into the unknown so to speak.
As for some palatable foods I think I am resigned to the supplements until the taste buds get back to normal I had a small portion of fish last night and it still had that funny taste about it. yuk..

The Model A.

But also to say that your finish truely is stunning.

Looking at this car I just want to clean and polish and touch it.

Great job!!

Dawn do still make those screw jack stands, but they retail for well over $200 a pair in this neck of the woods. If I could be sure they were still made in Australia I might bite, but I suspect that even though they have an outline of Australia cast into the base, they are infact made offshore these days - probably India - much like their drill press vices and "consumer grade" bench vices. Hopefully I can be proven wrong on this..

1/2 Cup,
Mostly a lurker on this forum but admire you and many on here for the outstanding work you all accomplish, with an attitude that is refreshing and encouraging as I am about to turn 62 and can relate to many things posted here.
Just want to add my good wishes and to offer a little suggestion that (I hope) might help.

My wife has been through VERY long stretch of Chemo and anti-seizure drugs which affected her taste buds drastically. Especially meats, fish, nuts and dairy.

What I found helped was using strong flavoring such as lots of fresh herbs, soy sauce, garlic and ginger (things she likes). There are others I'm sure.

Pasta with a few fresh tomatoes, FRESH garlic and lots of fresh herbs always worked.
Chicken or Pork steaks marinated in a Soy sauce/FRESH Ginger/FRESH Garlic then grilled.
Stir fry vegetables heavy on the FRESH ginger/FRESH garlic and a dash of your favorite seasoning (soy/teriyaki/spicy sauce).
Smoked chicken/pork with tangy BBQ sauce.

Anyway, best of luck to you with your recovery and hope these suggestions work for you. I love to eat (and cook) and with everything else you have to deal with not being able to enjoy a meal is just so wrong on many levels in my book, both for your health and comfort.

1/2: thanks for the Model A pics and i agree with all that your work so far is AMAZING and i bet you'd look pretty dapper driving down the road in that with Mrs. 1/2 or really anybody.

Ralf: I've owned a few Dawn vises and found homes for them with neighbors and friends, but if i find an original or even a good offset one in good shape it won't be leaving my hands anytime soon. i think you are right a lot of the good old companies have gone elsewhere to get their goods made I'm guessing mostly cause of regulations of some sort which is a bit sad cause i bet our countries could and can make some very high quality stuff.

Bob: welcome to the forum and you are making me (us) hungry. thanks for lending us your tips and best of luck and prayers sent with your wife's health and for you as the caretaker which is equally if not as hard. cheers

ALL: my "little" cedar mailbox is partially put together and thought i'd post another picture here and hope 1/2 Cup doesn't mind and maybe it might put another smile on his "old black duck" mug.

cheers all

The roadster looks awesome. It looks like you're on the home stretch. Did you do the bodywork and such? I've been looking for a decent set of original 30 or 31 fenders for about 2 years. The ones I've found are either too far, way out of my price range, or attached to a vehicle.

Man you're about done with the Model A. Definitely time for some "you" and the A time. Glad health is on the uphill and you have a great nurse that makes you stop to smell the roses.

Man the finish on those fenders is something to aspire too. That is next level Steve. The Model A will be there when your Health is at the right stage to continue.

You seem to not like my Legendary status on you but I see so many people on your thread commenting and elsewhere about you it just seemed fitting. You are a very inspiring and genuine guy.

Steve try some green tea with lemon grass for the after taste. I don't know if it could work but I have found that when I eat an excessive amount of garlic and can't get the taste out it purifies or neutralizes it. I know chemo does not equate to that but some of the digestive changes may coincide and give you some temporary relief if you start before and continue while eating? I'm no medical professional but I can't see how tea could hurt you. Hope this helps you. Sorry it comes from the fixing gene in my DNA. :lol_hitti

Rian, thank you:thumbup:

The restoration has certainly been over a long period of time and for the most part has taken the back seat due to time constraints because of a growing families, house hold renovations, life in general work commitments and space.

Ralf99, - far out that's not cheap but then again you pay for what you get. I always thought they were still made here, correct me if I am wrong. You are right some of the consumer grade gear would be made OS.

BobL - welcome and thank you for your post.

It sounds very much like I am going through similar issues in regards to the taste buds as your wife

I actually tried you suggestion of tomatoes this evening ( bear in mind I could not have done it two weeks ago with the issues I had in swallowing ) my wife made me a toasted tomato, herb and cheese sandwich that i managed to get through no problems and that was a welcome change from the supplement meals let me tell you.
A little roasted chicken I can tolerate. I do like my pork as well.
I have my next Chemo Cycle begins tomorrow and that will be interesting to see whether it will impact as much as the first round did, hopefully not.

Thank you again, your suggestions have been taken on board..

Drives - thank you.

About the only thing I did not do is paint the fenders, being black and not having a controlled environment I left that to the old school tradesman that know best. I can't wait to drive the car that's why I would like a driver right now. Yep I am getting impatient..

Dawn still make some quality gear, even the older stuff just lasts and lasts.

You are going great guns on the mail box it looks a treat and thanks for posting.

Regards

-Brent- thank you.

There is still heaps to do ( the to list in following posts ) time is my enemy and after driving the MGTC I would really like a driver.:3gears:
I have done the roadster body including the painting, all the mechanicals by my self myself with the exception of the machining, white metal bearings and chrome plating.
The radiator surround polish job was a little more of my handy work
I can not take any credit for the fenders however they were in reasonable condition and being black a mate of a mate having a spray booth did the paint job on them, an outstanding job i might add.
Original fenders are getting very pricey out here to ( if you can find them ) as are repo units. That said they do come up from time to time on EBAY.
Regards

Thank you one and all for your visit, enjoy your weekend.

cheers and hope you are enjoying your weekend.

As above, I'm glad to hear that BobLons food tips were of use, that's excellent news!

Much as I'd love that Model A in my shed, I'm sure you would regret that. While you say there's lots left to do, it looks to me (and others here by their responses) that truly you are on the home stretch with it, and a push of motivation and effort could have it done quicker than you might expect. Is there much left to do other than reassembly and interior? Maybe you can recruit Andrew for a weekend or two to help with reassembly of the big bits. At the point you appear to be at, a lot of visual progress can be made in a short period of time by reassembling the body etc on the frame, and that in itself will be a huge motivational boost.

Of course, I'm not suggesting you put too much effort into it until you are feeling up to it. But you can do it!

Shorty - there is a fair bit to go yet on the Model A. I am working on my Model A To Do List at the moment that will give you a better idea of where things are at.
There is no escaping my in house nurse ( aka Mrs 1/2 Cup ) she is doing a fantastic job and I can not get away with anything.;)

Bret - thank you.
I can't take credit for the paint job on the fenders, being black and not having a spray booth I enlisted the help of an old school tradesman and they have really come up a treat.
The Model A will still be there for sure when I recover enough to have another crack at it, that's why I would like something right now to drive. I am a little impatient I know but driving the MG has got me going again.
We took the MG out yesterday to the local auto parts store as Andrew had to pick up a few bits an pieces then caught up with another mate at his work shop just to catch up, it was great outing.:3gears:

Not that i don't like the tag "Legendary" its more that I am truly humbled and perhaps a little embarrassed by the fact that I could be even thought of being worthy of status. I do believe we are all equal at the end of the day..

Again, thank you..

Bobby - Green tea with lemon grass works well and as you say gives temporary relief, the next cycle of Chemo will see all those after effects over again but I am a little better prepared having been there this time. The Specialist did say at our last visit that the dose this time will not be as strong. ( fingers crossed. )

Drives - thank you .
Baby steps with the eating at the moment noting improvements every day.
Cycle two of the Chemo will be an infusion tomorrow and the same again the following Monday.
Then the after effects kick in again, knowing what you are in for is 1/2 the battle.

What you have done on the mail box look a treat, IMHO I would go for the 2x8 as it just keeps the balance right..

One and all thanks again for your visit and I trust your weekends are going well.

I would certainly regret it, I remember when I sold my MkII Mini Cooper S.

There is still a bit to do on the A but you are right I am over the hump so to speak. I will post up a To Do List in the next day or so to give you an idea in terms of hours and capital investment left to go.
I totally agree with your summation in regard to a motivational boost :3gears:

We will get there..

Glad to see you up and about Steve...

I think I remember you saying earlier that you were getting mouth ulcers - I was told to rinse my mouth a couple of times a day with a sodium bicarbonate solution. And that worked for me. I still continue to do it to this day, as it seems to keep a lot of things at bay.....

You may have been given a bottle at your first Chemo (that's where I got mine).

See if that helps.

1/2: I saw your Bathurst race thread over in Free Parking and watched one of the old videos. is there a good video and link for this year's race on that thread for some of NON or ALMOST AUSSIES to watch?

I love the bones on your Model A and it looks like it's SCREAMING 1/2 Cup quality on every part even though you might not have made, or painted or shined them all you found the right guys for the right job which is a good thing too.

i have a couple non structural and more decorative bolts with old galvanized washers to install on the cedar mailbox after the last coat of stain dries and then i can install the mailboxes and throw the old stand in the trash.

hope you are feeling ok and if today was first day of second round of Cheemo if you don't have time to make your normal posts just rest up until you can throw out a smoke signal.

cheers buddy and prayers sent!!

Lyndon, I was pretty much a couch potato all day as well:thumbup:

Mrs 1/2 Cup brought me one of those hospital bed side tables, so I am able to sit in a recliner, watch TV and I have the lap top on the table so I have the best of both worlds.
We had a procession of visitors yesterday, fortunately most were keen petrol heads and I did not have to turn the TV off.
I was the most bizarre Bathurst I have ever seen in my lifetime and as you say never wet from start to finish.
I was certain the Penske/DJR team would give it a good crack this year, boy have they lifted their game, pity about the engine issues..:3gears:

Steve great to see that help you get some relief.

Thank you Bobby, I am enjoying one as I type this..

1/2: how are you feeling and hope the Cheemo works and also hope you never have to do this again after this round. Prayers and best wishes for success!!

I see why you Aussies like your road racing cause it's almost like demolition derby we have over here or maybe that was just because it was raining. anyway it's definitely the battle of the fittest and those body men in the pit might get the job done, but OMG with a HATCHET?

i posted up my finished mailbox over on the Get Healthy thread if you want to take a peak at the BLING i added, but thought i'd post this picture cause i knew it might make you smile.

I THINK I CLOCKED MY HEX BOLTS. :bounce:

Andy, xtremek, terrick, jon, drives..

The second round of Chemo has gone well, no after effects as yet.

I had a GP review of the Oncology results this morning and he was more than happy with how things are progressing given that he had not seen me for 9 weeks and referred me to the Specialists. I fact he told me that when I presented nearly 9 weeks ago that he was concerned at my condition, I mean really concerned.

drives, Bathurst and our v8 supercars are way different than NASCAR, although I do like both. It can still be a smash up derby at times.

Luv the detail on your letter box, I did check in...

Thank you one and all, have a good one.

Totally changing the subject I had a great score today on our local buy and sell site.
The deal was completed and Mrs 1/2 Cup drove me the 45 minute drive after my GP appointment to pick up.

One only Dawn 9 inch Wood work vise, needs a little TLC but hardly used coming from a school wood work shop so there is absolutely no wear. I am guessing a quick dunk in the Solar E bath will do the trick plus a few tips from drives vise thread:rocker:

I paid the princely sum of $10.00, yep this is not a typo $ ten dollars:rocker:

To put that into the context of what a new one is worth out here, check the below link out..

I am one happy chappy...:rocker:

Very well done 1/2 cup. Much better condition than my dawn no. 9 and 1/6 th what I paid.

They are a heavy unit and much bigger than it looks in the pic.

What are you thinking of mounting it on ?

Riven, GB, Dan, Bobby..

Thank you one and all:bowdown:

Not that I really need a new vise but it was a bargain that had my name on it.

I have leant a lot from American Pickers since I have had been at home and watching TV. The seller, a retired gent, is moving into smaller premises a 1000 kms north of here to be closer to familly. He had all the gear he was selling layed out under a carport and asked if he had any other stuff for sale an his reply was that is dependent on the new home we eventually move into and then proceeded to show me through his shed.
It was a jaw dropper and the items of interest to me was the older but in good condition Hercus Metal Lathe , an older large wood lathe, a relatively new small wood lathe plus a low hours 7.5 kva generator set We agreed that should he I could have first offer should they come up for sale - heres hoping..

GB,
I am not sure just how I will mount it or for that matter what I will mount it to at this point. I really do not have the room for another bench so I am looking for some creative solutions to mount it..

All, no real after effects from the Chemo at this point:thumbup:

Have a good one...

1/2: once you find a bench and a need for that Dawn vice feel free to ask if you need help. wood vises are pretty simple really cause just a clip in the back to remove usually to pull it apart to clean it, then re grease and or oil it.

remember to throw a rag over open threads on wood vises and even your covered screw vices so the crud and debris don't travel into the screw threads.

you might want to put on some soft wood jaws if you want a better grip on some projects or if you are looking for just a grip and long lasting fine a couple scraps of the hardest wood you can drill and put a screw into and use those.

nice find and OMG i didn't know they cost that much new and you certainly did well with your purchase. WELL DONE SIR!!

also best of luck in case the old guy can't find a spot for his other tools and maybe he'll be somewhat reasonable on those prices too.

cheers and keep up the great reports that you are actually turning this around and gaining a bit of weight and feeling better.

more prayers sent!!

my exercise program this week is to widen this sidewalk before the rains start again this winter. just did a 10 80 pound bags pour and need to clean up the edges after it dries a bit.

drives, I have been looking through the Vices thread this morning and what you have suggested will bring the vise back to life.

In terms of mounting it I am a little unsure yet as to what and how I will mount it on, I will get it cleaned up first then decide where the best fit is.

The Vise was a steal and I am hoping the other gear comes off just as well. The seller was great to deal with.

I am feeling really great today, been out and about to the Big Box store for the first time in months and I managed that ok much to Mrs 1/2 Cups displeasure but I am working with what the body will let me do and not over doing it.

Your side walk is coming along nicely.

You have been a busy beaver of late and it is great exercise for both body and mind..

Thank you again and have a good one...

Surely Mrs. 1/2 Cup knows the therapeutic value of a trip to the Big Box store.:bounce:

In the same vein, spending a bit of money is also very healthy.

You did so well on the vise. Another trip just to drop in on the gentleman is in order, even if there is nothing else for sale you might like. Another visit would surely be good for the both of you.

So glad this chemo was relatively benign.
