Dear members of the the GJ,
I was a day late on starting Dads model A for his birthday. I must say that one day was worth the wait.
I could only start his car with the care and attention to detail that Dad would have done, after oiling the bores for many months and rigging up the fuel and wiring ( in away the would have been accepted by by Dad), I managed to to clear the oil from the bores and fired up Dads model A.
As expected it fired up like it ran the day before-sweet as a button as it was built. I have footage on Facebook on this monumental achievement.
The water pump needs some attention after sitting for so long, which I have now rectified so the next start up should be a drive able achievement if I manage to get the steering column fitted.

Andrew: OMG that had to be an amazing sound with the Model A starting up. glad you sorted out the water pump issue and can't wait to see what else you do. of course your dad is smiling and maybe whispering in your ear all the time and while reading his thread still brings a bit of sadness his good spirit and good teachings are alive and well in the SHED DOWNUNDER.

CONGRATS and thanks again for sharing!!

My last post to 1/2 Cup, sadly, two years ago

Happy Birthday a day late my fellow Libra and so happy to see you back and kickin around. Hope you have many, many more!

Andrew and all, I just dropped in after a long absence to check up on some of my old GJ friends and was so saddened to hear of Steves passing. To Andrew and all of Steves good friends here, please accept my sincerest and truly heartfelt condolences. Steves vision of life and his friendly manner was remarkable. He was indeed an inspiration to us all here. I am now so regretting being away for so long and feel embarrassed to just now be posting this. As each of us get older we loose many relatives and old friends and we always wish we had just made one call or visit to speak to or see them, such as is the case here. I hope to be able to spend more time here in the future and hope to reignite some old friendships and look forward to following the continuation of this thread.
Steve was a good and peaceful man, may he now rest in peace.

Andrew: I also don't belong or do FACEBOOK, but from your words I can hear that engine purring.

maybe a video with you driving the boys around in the MODEL A if that is possible might be nice to post, but you just posting up a few words is always nice.

take care and best of luck with the MODEL A and your MG racing.

Andrew, you must have had a wonderful feeling when it started up. I'd be surprised if you didn't have the hair on your neck standing up. I'm no expert but that engine sounds amazing. Well done and thank you so much for sharing.

Many thanks to all,
It really was an experience that I just can't put words on, the hairs on my neck were standing however a huge sense of calm and satisfying relaxation was felt when she fired up so sweet.
It took very little to fire up but ir was the preparation and checks that were nerve racking as I've never played with one of these engines before, I went over it a thousand times asking Dad if things were right, timing, spark, electrical, fuel delivery and mechanically - I just went with my gut and the process Dad would have taken and it was nothing short of amazing let me tell you.

Over the next few days I shall be firing it up again, the water pump was seized due to sitting, thats now all fixed and the end float set its time for another full system run to full temp.

I shall be reporting on the results in a few days.

Many thanks to you all yet again.
