Was playing a little with the Caddy. It starts really hard, so I put 24v to the starter and it cranked(s) just fine. Had a fuel leak, so I stopped what I was doing for a few minutes (10?) to fix the leak. Heard/felt a big bang and looked up. I guess I should have run the coil on just 12v.IMG_1479.jpg

Yes, the heat is slowing me down. And if I’m honest, so is my love of reading. But I’m still doing one or two things. This junk is from where her old shed was, and where part of the duck yard is going to be. Once most of that was cleared, I plowed up everything because, truth be told, I’d just dumped several loads of dirt from the placement of Robin’s She Shed. So I’m in the process of leveling and smoothing everything out.

The BiL had his hip replaced about 6 weeks ago, then fell 2 weeks ago. He waited 5 days to go to Urgent care, where they sent him to Emergency. They in turn sent him to the hospital. Replace 75% of his new hip, sodium level out of whack, perforated colon sectioned, then resected means we haven’t had much time to do anything. That being said, the rear glass hinges for the daughter’s Escape rotted off. Then the water outlet and a heater hose on Squirt2 decided it was time to let go (both original). The new plastic outlet is temporary. I've already ordered a new aluminum outlet but needed the car in the meantime.

Wow Kirk!
If it wasn't for bad luck, you wouldn't have any luck at all.
All in all, I think we were pretty lucky. O'Reilly's had all the parts in stock and the repairs were pretty simple, and not unexpected on cars that have over 200,000 miles on them.

The BiL got extremely lucky. He lives alone, is a heavy drinker, and isn't very active. The perforated colon had nothing to do with the hip, so he was extremely lucky it happened when it did, otherwise he'd be dead. It makes me want to make sure I get to the gym regularly.

So it's been a busy week or two. BiL is doing much better, but it was pretty sketchy for about a week. Also had to get Dad set up on one of those medical alert systems. Used Bay Alert and it was pretty start forward. But to add to the mess, I signed up for Sick Week Michigan Miles. I'm running the Buell. Just found out today that we're the first motorcycles to ever run a Sick Week event. There are 4 of us. A Gixxer 1000, a Kaw Concours, a hopped up Harley Sportster, and myself. My bike had a few things that needed to be done. Rules require a chain/belt guard, I needed a place to put my luggage, and I wanted to mount a Insta 360 Camera. So....

Well I got all of that done and left the house this morning wondering what the HOLY H.E.Double Hockey Sticks I got myself into. I've never, ever been on any track before (let alone a drag strip), or did any kind of drag racing. That's 5 drag races, just under 1,100 miles, and the Woodward Dream Cruise all in 8 days. To top it off, I have to ride the bike over the Mac. And did I ever tell you I'm terrified of bridges. (DON'T EVER show an 8 yr old the movie of the Galloping Gerty, the Tacoma Sounds bridge collapse).Ready.jpgWaiting for tech 1.jpgTop of the strip.jpgWaiting my turn.jpgFirst time slip.jpg
Yeah, for my first trip on the strip, my reaction time was horrible. But after 4 trips, I'm about half that.

Are you meaning you took the bike over the Mackinac bridge? Yeah I'd say you have a right to be nervous doing that lol. That was an experience crossing it in a pickup, don't think I'd do it in a bike.

Also, TIL that bikes use belts instead of chain drives. Or is that just model specific?

Kirk,
I think it's really cool you're doing Sick Week! (y)(y)(y)(y)(y)
Thanks Jon.

It's a Sportster engine in those bikes so the belt drive is part of the Harley family.

I’m late sue me. Late is SOP for me. So here are some pics of Sick Week Michigan miles. Monday started out a total 5h1t5h0w. Cargo net broke and my laptop hit hard. Still usable, but I had to go Cabela’s and get a new cargo net. Got lost going to and from Cabela’s. But in all the craziness I ran an 8.16 in the 1/8th. Went to Randy’s Barbeque and Smokehouse in the Irish hills for lunch, the on to Melling Performance. When I figure out how to post vids, I’ve got a couple of good ones from there. Then a quick stop at Uncle John’s Cider Mill in my hometown. Finally Big Top Ice Cream in Ithaca before heading home past the Mint fields on my way home.Cabelas 2.jpgCabelas 1.jpgRandy's bbq.jpgMellings.jpgUncle Johns.jpgIthaca Ice Cream.jpgmint field.jpg

Got back a week ago yesterday, but last week was a mess, so I'm playing catch up on posts.

Tuesday the 12th

Passed the windmills on my way to Mid-Michigan dragstrip. Got rained out of racing on Tuesday and spent most of the day riding in the rain with no rain gear. In the meantime we stopped at an Ice Cream shop (forget where and the name) then Steve Morris Engines. I finally gave up and found a garbage bag for a rain suit. I was so water logged. A ¼ mile later the rain quit. Then it was on to Chicken Shack. Pretty good wings. The final stop for the day was Stix. Too tired to “stick” around (insert groan here).windmills.jpgMid Michigan 1.jpgMid Michigan 2.jpgMid Michigan 3.jpgIce Cream.jpgSME 1.jpgSME 2.jpgSME 3.jpgSME 5.jpgSME 6.jpg

Next morning was drag racing at Northern Michigan Dragstrip. Ran ok. Then on to Woodland Sweets. After that we stopped at Larry’s Seven Ski Inn. The burger was pretty good. As a burger is usually at its best just a burger, I highly recommend stopping there if you’re in the area (about ½ hour north of Mancelona?). We stopped just for a moment at the Whippy Dip, so I didn’t really try their stuff, but a young lady gave everyone a refrigerator magnet, so I really would like to go back and try their ice cream. Then over the Mackinac Bridge into St Ignace. I’m terrified of bridges (don’t ever show an 8 yr old the video of Galloping Gertie, the Tacoma Narrows bridge collapse), so after crossing the bridge I had a 2-3 minute melt down. After the last checkpoint, we got a pic of the 3 sportbikes out on the pier.morning fill up.jpgNorthern pits.jpgtime slip.jpgwoodland sweets.jpgLarry's .JPGWhippy Dip.JPGSt Ignace.jpgSt Ignace 2.jpgSt Ignace 3.jpg

Thursday morning was beautiful, clear and brisk like a Michigan morning should be. Again, the hotel parking lot looked like a car show. Another trip back over the bridge, though this time the panic attack was only a minute or so. Then a blast down 23 do to the BiL thing. He was having more health issues. Still hit all my checkpoints.

My condolences to you and yours.

Also, to my (untrained) eye it looks like your pack is hanging way back. Does that negatively affect the handling? Or is it just kinda similar to having a passenger?

It is sitting way high and way back, but I didn't really fell much difference in the way it handled. I would guess that everything weighed less than 75lbs, but that's me guessing. And we did hustle through a couple of nice sweepers.
