Hey guys, need some help here. This is a cool charity. One of the guys here, Rixtrix, boys have Duchenne's. Anyway, here's what was posted on FB.

PLEASE read and share. We need a miracle of help. Anyone in or near Richmond Hill GA that has a scooter. It has to be a motorized street 2 wheeler. Not a bicycle. Must be auto. Both hands are stitched up lol. We need it TODAY. Please read why below.
Mile Monsters Inc. . Monster rider Frankie Rolo Lamb has ridden every single day this year clocking over 80k miles. She was in an accident last night. Got a short ride in a helicopter to find out she's more beat up than hurt. But stitches in both hands and a few broken bones.
She's on day 304 and does not want this to end like this. She's a nurse and military vet. This will not stop her.
So here's what happens. She MUST clock at least one mile a day to stay her path. Her CVO road glide is totaled. This will be probably a 2-3 week borrow for a mile a day.
Why is she this nuts, because she's raising money for children that have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This disease affects manly young men and many don't get to see their 25th birthday.
She does this for kids. Not for any other reason.
Does anyone have anything? She's on the way home from Florida today and is willing to clock a mile tonight. We have to do it today to keep the legacy alive.
Let's rally for the kids and her.

Back to the “Target”. I mean what do you call a car that Bambi has hit at least 3 times? When we replaced the oil cooler, the oil looked like butterscotch. Did a compression test and one cylinder was down to 125psi (the rest were around 220psi). Cause, warped head. Replaced the head then finished assembling the rest of the engine bay. (radiator, trans cooler, intercooler, and condenser).cyl head.jpg

We had Freeland Middle School into St. Andrews MSU Ext. for some fun with STEM. They did some work with Tinkercad, then played with Sphero-bolts for a bit. They found that if you ran it full speed forward (or backwards) AND left or right full tilt, they could get them jumping. Talk about a racket, 12 of them jumping at the same time was LOUD!

IMG_1905.jpgIMG_1907.jpg

Then Chef Jami showed them how to make real ramen noodles and fried rice. After that it was liquid nitrogen ice cream.

Yeah, they're pretty thick around here, too. I'm guessing we average about a close  call with the vehicles about every other week.

I didn't want to put this kind of money into it, not sure it 'll be worth it. I don't mind doing the work, since I look at this as training for the Cabover. But Momma wants to keep it, so I'll give it the best shot I can.

Something seems to be missing here. Stepping away from the Target in order to get at least one more vehicle on the road quickly (and we need a truck), I decided to get the late BiL’s Tahoe on the road. I was going to hold off on putting in the lift kit (BiL had bought a 2”-3” Rough Country), but with all of the ball joints being toast, I figured now was the time to get it all done. When it rolls out EVRYTHING in the steering/front suspension will be brand new. Once it’s drivable, I’ll finish up the body work on the Target.

Another upgrade he bought was this spare tire rack.

The stock radio was toast so it was time for an upgrade, especially since I’m going to cover the religious dash with a skin. While I’m under there, I’m going to do all of the dash work and be done with it. New headlight switch, brake controller, and trailer brake wiring are all on order.

Thx. Most of that is POR 15. It was a lot runnier than I remembered.

How well does that stuff hold up to salty roads in your experience? I cleaned up my winter steel rims this fall as they were getting really scaley. Went with two coats of rust converter and two coats of tremclad rust paint. Will see how well that holds up.

It holds up ok, not great. The stuff isn't UV stable, so if it sees the Sun it has to be top coated. I did the box sides on the Girlfriend (dump truck). I rolled on the POR 15, sanded it, and then sprayed a coat of Rustoleum. There are a couple of small spots that are showing surface rust. I won't ever use just one coat of Rustoleum, more like 3 or 4 coats. I'd also put more layers of POR on before I sanded it, so it wouldn't go down to bare metal. If I want it really nice, I'll sand blast it, epoxy primer, then top coat it.

Got a package in the mail on Friday. My friends made the cover and got a pic in the story. I texted the bike group pics from the magazine. The gent on the left replied that he was so glad that we all remembered to smile. The last pic was taken at Northern Michigan dragway and is of our friend who was tagging along with us.

Talk about a fight. Since I didn't take it apart, I don't know where/what all the bolts are for 8 ball (the Tahoe). I couldn't figure out what the bolts for the sway bar saddle clamps were. Tried M8, M10, M12, 5/16", and 3/8" of different pitches. Nope. Come to find out they're M10 Tri-lobed. They are not circular.
Lift 8.jpg

Next, I couldn't get the right bump stops from my local parts store. They were so oversized that I couldn't get the shocks on. Ended up trimming them down with a 4 1/2" grinder and the sabre saw. Still might have to trim the height down.
Lift 9.jpg
Now the left rear shock is hitting the lower mount. I might have the lift block in backwards. I'll call Rough Country later this morning to find out. And I can't get the return line on the new steering gear box to thread. Ugh. So, all I have left is the two above issues (gear box line and shock mount), the sway bar, bleed the brakes, installing the ds inner fender, an alignment, and it's ready for the road.
Lift 10.jpg
Then it's get some maintenance done on 2 of our DD and on to the Tale of 2 Cruzes. 😩 Sigh. Only 4 more big project VEHICLES before I can get to the cabover. But who's counting.

PS., if anyone local wants some glass cleaner, power steering fluid, let me know. I have a TON of miscellaneous automotive chemicals that I'll never be able to go through. Already gave away 2 or 3 cases of Goodwrench rear end dope and 10 gallons of antifreeze. Oh, and transmission parts and tools too.

It turns out that it was maintenance on 3 of our DD’s. Oil change on the ’17 Fusion (GOD!!! I hate working on this one, no good jacking points), front rotors and one low beam on Squirt2 (my Sonic). Was going to replace the #4 coil on Hello Kitty (’17 Elantra) but the coil I got from O’Reilly’s was pretty banged up, so we’ll get another one, and swap it out tonight.
Done.jpeg
Got the lift kit done on 8-ball. I was too tired to get the alignment close on Sunday night, so drove it as is (HUGE positive camber and HUGE toe-in). Talk about a handful to drive. Took 45ish minutes to drive 15ish miles. Told Robin that I’d rather drive a vehicle with no brakes (done that several times), than ever drive something like that again. Tonight I’ll double check all the bolts on it and put the coil on Hello Kitty. Then we’ll pull “da Cruze” into the shop so that I can look at it Thursday night. Tomorrow night is an open house at work. 😮‍💨
Sigh.

It's kind of cool. On one hand, I get to hang with young kids and teach them what little I know. And one of the people I work with is into a bunch of different stuff (3D printing, cheap DIY projects like a CNC plasma table, CNC tabletop mill....). And it puts a couple of nickels in my pocket. On the other hand, it's a lot of work learning new skills at my age (63). I haven't really written code since Fortran was the new big thing. And I've lost 3 days a week to the job. So, it's a wash. It gives me HUGE respect for teachers. I'm only riding herd on 8-12 cats, I mean kids, and I have another adult helping. There's no way you could get me to run a class of 35 or more middle school students. Teachers don't get paid near enough. Maybe if they were paid $150,000 a year or more, then it might come close to being a reasonable paycheck.

When I worked for Bachman academy(it was a boarding school for kids with learning differences)they would send the bad kids to maintenance for the day as punishment, after a few months the kids started coming to me at chapel in the morning to find out what I was doing that day, they started getting into trouble on purpose so they could come help me! So the Headmaster and I sat down and reworked the program, to work in maintenance you had to have your school work/homework completed on time and not be in trouble with your teachers. When I left there, I had regular classes every period throughout the day. It changed a lot of kid around. Best job ever.

I like 8 Ball, it even has barn doors! Judging by the dash, did your BIL (RIP) get it from down south?
I'm pretty sure it's an Arizona truck. There's NO rust on the body anywhere. The frame has minimal surface rust. The interior is kind of nasty, but I think it'll clean up. It does need the overhead console, headliner, sun visors, and the fore/aft power seat working.

The next up for “8 ball” is to upgrade the radio with one that has XM, GPS, and I can tie in a back-up camera to. But that’s going to have to wait.

The oldest daughter’s Escape is dying of Michigan Cancer, needs ball joint, and an intermediate shaft. So we bought her a ’14 Cruze that didn’t start. Found out the big fuse was blown.

Checked the compression while we were at it 215-220 across the board. It also is leaking oil like a sieve. Popped cam cover off and this is what we found. Now I’m stumped. Maybe an oil cooler?
Cam cover.jpegmilk shake.jpeg

The blower motor sounded funny. I think the occupant was home when we turned it on high, because there wasn’t much in the squirrel cage.

We knew the car had been hit in the front, so on to fixing that. Lots of busted little brackets to hack together.
remount bumper.jpeg

Had to get everything done ASAP, because the middle daughter&hubby are coming in from Cali and they need a car. So, once this one is one the road I have to finish the “Target” (the other Cruze). Sigh. No rest for the wicked.

You sure are keeping busy with the car repairs / upkeep.
Such is life when you have 10+ vehicles and the youngest is a 2017 (138,***), or 97,*** (2014) miles and didn't run when you got it. The average age of the fleet is 30 years old with 155,*** miles on the odometer The new Cruze and the COE bring the age WAY down.
I'm surprised to see another Cruze, I thought you didn't like those cars?
I like the 1.4l turbo. I absolutely love my Sonic! The Cruzes are alright. The Korean designed cars are a **** shoot when it comes to quality. Squirt squared (the Sonic) has been awesome. The Target (wife's Cruze) has been decent. The new Cruze might be troublesome. 97,*** and it's already had a bunch of stuff done to it has me concerned.

Is it time for that proctology exam?
Proctology exam.jpeg

Back to the Target (wife’s Cruze). On top of all of the mechanical work, it needs both rockers, rear bumper, and front clip. The proctology exam of the rear bumper yielded all of this mud packed in the bumper support.

rr bumper cleanout.jpeg

Robin did the R&R on the rear bumper with the new part from Partify. That’s baby powder covering it.

rr bumper done.jpeg

Meanwhile I started on fixing this mess, the rear of the driver’s rocker. I hope to have this patched up by dinner today.

A big part of it is that my wife doesn't believe in ever washing cars. Squirt Squared (the Sonic) is just now starting to show tiny spots of rust, even though it has 80,*** more miles on it than her car.

Do you guys do oil undercoating over there? It makes a world of difference.

The truck I drove before I had my Dad's Avalanche was a 2000 Silverado. It was undercoated annually since new, and I kept that up when I got it. I sold it with 325k km on it, and the box was just starting to bubble. That Avalanche was only undercoated a couple times, and with 313k km on it is completely rusted out.
