Congratulation on the new badge color. My son has been at Chrysler for about 10 months as a contract employee. Hoping he goes direct. There is no job security as a contract employee.

And one final note, the color of my work badge went from yellow to blue today. For those who don't work at GM, yellow is contract workers, blue is for direct employees. To me, it's a very cool thing.

Nice mug shot Kirk. So when did you decide to stop shaving our face?

Thanks. I hope your son gets direct faster than I did.

Hey Kirk, just stopping by to see what you've been up to. I see you mentioned that you've been pretty busy lately over on 1/2 cups thread (I think)

Give us a brief update when you get a chance.

Hey Dan, I'm hanging in there, thanks for asking. I did replace the deck spindle bearing in the mower and I dumped about 12 yards of topsoil/pond muck on the garden for my better half. Boy do I love that dump truck. Work's been running me ragged. So that's leaving me feeling kind of beat up and lacking motivation.

So that begs the question. What do you guys and gals do to get remotivated? What do you do to get it back in gear and hauling the load again? Any secrets?

No help from me but I'd like to hear from others. It seems to be getting harder as I age. There was a time that 12-15m hours a day wasn't long enough to get everything done that I wanted to. Now if I get in 6-8 I feel like I've had a good work day.:dunno:

And to add to that, it now seems to take 2hrs. to do a job that took a 1/2hr. to do when I was in my 40's.

Hello Kirk... It's been a while since I have had a chance to stop by and see what the others have been up to.. Congrats on the employment upgrade! That would seem to me to be a good thing if I was wanting to work, for a big company.... So I took a part time J O B working at Home Depot in the lumber dept. I like the short <10 minute commute and the people there are nice to work with. I will never get rich working there though.

The wet season is almost over and summer is starting to break out again. The wife decided to grow a raised bed garden in the area where all the Big Pine Trees were removed last year... So I have been busy building boxes and doing outside stuff between the rainy & sunny days. I'll post images on my pages so as not to hijack your thread ...

As for what I do to recharge my batteries, I get my knees in the breeze... no destination just a direction and ride! Then I am almost ready to be ambitious again...

I like and AC/DC idea Sean, but lately I don’t even want to get out to the barn. You might want to check out the New Pornographers, “High Ticket Attraction”. And McQuinn, as for riding the bike, mine’s buried and covered in 2” of dust. And don’t worry about jacking my thread, news from my friends is always welcomed. My wife liked your raised beds, thanks for the extra work ;)

So folks, how’s it going out there? I took the week off to get the place cleaned up for the middle daughter’s open house. Gave the Old Mule a light workout by pulling a couple of 1 ½” diameter trees out of Robin’s roses. I finally got the lawn mowed and mostly trimmed. 7 hours, ugh. The pool is cleaned, filled, pump installed, and open for business……if you want to swim with the ice cubes.

I finally got the duck yard tilled, and planted a mix of high traffic grass and high traffic clover. Boy is it nice to have access to a 6’ rototiller, I have the greatest neighbors. But in the process, I broke the dump truck. I broke the frame of the box as I was dumping a load of top soil/pond muck. We knew the box was rough and living on borrowed time. Still, I hauled about 20 loads (30+ yards) of crushed concrete and 15ish loads of topsoil, so the Little Beast has earned its keep and the right to an upgrade. I’m looking forward to building a new box.

On another note, Robin’s ducks had two sets of chicks, but the males killed 3 of the first batch. After the boys killed a hen, she took 8 of the 9 in to be “processed”. But to end this post on a happy note, here’s the latest additions to her flock.

I really had no idea this would cause more work for you... but in my defense, I had no plans to do raised beds either... you know as well as I do that a happy wife = a happy life is a mixed bag of ... well, anyway. Seems like you might have to put more effort into dusting off the bike and just disappear... They say that a person is not considered missing until 24 hrs have passed. If he was last seen riding a motorcycle, it could be longer... ;)

Still haven't found that ambition, somebody had a BIG gun pointed at my head. Our middle daughter had her open house yesterday and we wanted the place to look decent. Notice I didn't say "nice", we're trying to work our way up to that level. As far as ambition goes, I think someone put right next to the money tree I keep hearing about. If I find either, I'll make sure I save some for you Dan. But that being said, I did scrap out the organ donor and shared the $200 we got for it with my daughter.

Just to let you guys know I haven't dropped off the face of the earth. I been picking away at things. Cleaned the barn enough to start tearing into my girl's truck (I'm giving her my old '03 Ford F-150 S'crew). First on the list is putting in a motor in it. She and I also did a weekend in Chicago while my best half took the twins Girl Scout camping. We had a good time, and are finally recovered from all the walking (+20 miles). Also, I worked on putting the rabbit fence around the garden and am finishing up the church sign trailer. I hope to have the motor out before the end of the week and some repairs on her DD. Pics to follow.

I guess I missed it, what bike do you have?
I'm not sure if I put it on here, but I have an '86 Suzuki GS550 that has GS 750 front forks, Headwinds headlight, Arlen Ness cat eye mirrors, hidden handle bar wiring, and a custom lower triple clamp. It needs a voltage regulator, ignition module, and both brake light switches. If you know where I can get a donor bike, let me know please. And thanks for asking.

I've been on a group ride following a guy on a GS550...he went REAL fast in the twisties on that thing. He just flat knew how to ride...and had a flawless suspension setup. Made all the sport bike guys look like they were stuck in first gear.

I'll see if my local motorcycle salvage has one in the yard. I know I have a NOS GS650EX tank. It fits both my CX500 and my CB550/CB650 frames so it's being modified, then going on a heavily customized CB550/CB650 bike.

My buddy probably has the regulator and brake switches. Might have to dig for the ignition module...

With new rear shocks and a rebuilt fork stuffed with Race-Tech components, the old bikes can handle great. Add an experienced rider who knows his bike and tires and I can definitely see that happening.

The weekend before the holiday week, I took my daughter on our first vacation, to Chicago for the weekend. We had a good time and walked our legs off. We went Gino’s Pizza, Navy Pier, saw the bean, ate at the “Food Truck Festival”, and Millennium Park. It was nice to enjoy one on one time with her.

Just so you know, I didn’t waste my week of shutdown watching “Bitchin’ Rides” and “Street Outlaws”. I did get the lower fencing on two sides of Robin’s garden. We leveled out the area around the garden. I went to fire up the roto-tiller and it wouldn’t budge. I pulled off the front cover and found this. Also, my daughter was out for the week. We changed out the left front spindle (bent from her accident last year) so she could put the correct wheel on it. The tie rod arm was bent over 1”. At the same time, we replaced the caliper hardware, and the sway bar links. We also started removing the engine from the ’03 S’crew. I also replaced the low side AC hose on the Sonic. I think it was bent during the last deer strike. Last but not least, I finished the fab and assembly on the church sign. Here's the before/aft pics. We’re still waiting on 3 replacement strips for the letters. On tap for this weekend is mowing the lawn, finish the lower fencing on the garden, finish the tune-up on the Old Dawg (dump truck), and start repairing the doors of the duck house.

Heh...is that all you did with your week???

:D

Sounds a lot like mine. I always think that I have nothing to post...then I think about all the little stuff that gets done. Or in your case...maybe all the big stuff.
Right on man, keep cracking!

When there's a big gun stuck in your face, you move even though you don't want to. I think old age is finally starting to catch up with me.

Congratulations on the reassignment to a regular employee. You have managed to accomplish a lot in your week.

The old dump truck looks neat and it is a lot better than hauling loads on a trailer. I am sure you can fix the box.

Didn’t get much done this weekend, my best half and I had a run around. Anyone who puts up with my poo is worth a little grief. Anyway, yesterday my neighbor and I did get one job off the to-do list. The gasser wagon now has a pretty coat of blue. It came out much darker than I hoped, I was going for the Stone, Woods, and Cook color, but it’s done. In the pic it looks lighter and grayer than it does in person. I learned a lot on the body work on this one. Next up, the Fat Potato (garden tractor), and a motor in the ’03 Ford.
