Thanks Jon. It's tough when new projects come in, but nothing rolls out. Example, two arrived yesterday, a rototiller that needs a quick going over, and a wheelbarrow that needs handles. But nothing current will be going out in the next week.

Heh, I just finished my last "Fall" to do today: hanging a new muffler on the AWD, so I know how that goes.

So I'm going to be lazy and Copy/paste my FB greeting here.

"Yes, I'm an old fart. No, I didn't stay up (can't you tell by the post time? ;) ). I've been thinking (I know, you can smell the wood burning) about what to say. I hope your year is filled with genuine love and compassion and that you give better than you get. I pray you have a deep peace that stays with you no matter what life brings you. And know that's there at least one mental case who cares enough about you, that he considers you his friend."

If you're dropping by here to read my thread, I consider you my friend.

Thanks guys. And so you don’t think I wasted my time off, I did get a couple of things done. I brought the organ donor home, changed the oil in both the Sonic and the Saturn, helped a friend pull front end parts for his ’03 Screw in a bone yard, worked on the Christmas gift, got this rototiller running, got some parts for the ’52 (rearview mirror bracket and a windshield piece), and made this storage unit to hold all my collets for the mill. I need to make another one to hold the taper drills for the lathe, and then figure out how/where to mount them.

Looks like you have been pretty productive!

My collets are everywhere, I need to make something to hold them too. Is that just pvc that you used? I am on the phone, so pics aren’t as obvious as the computer is.

Yep, PVC. I plan on using JB Weld to attach the PVC to the wood and I'll write the sizes on the wood next to the collet, since most of my collets aren't marked.

Well, xtremek, I've let the holiday excitement keep me away from your posts, but just checked out a few today. I especially like the comments about the magnetic horizontal surfaces, etc. As I read through some of the posts by you and others, I couldn't help but be proud of myself! I had managed over the holidays to almost clear off TWO horizontal surfaces in the workshop:

IMG_9525.jpg IMG_9526.jpg

That's not to say I don't have a number of magnetic surfaces, like the model train workstation:
IMG_9527.jpg

And, before I left the shop this afternoon, I had used one surface to sort through some exhaust system hardware -- to find that I'm missing a couple of pieces. Phooey.

Thanks for the pics and questions, because what gear head doesn't want to look at hot rod parts. Anytime you want to talk hot rods, feel free to steal as much as you want!!!!!

ps. I'm totally jealous of the train bench.

Be still my beating heart. As a teenager the Hot Rods I loved the most were different. A Model T Coupe with a Latham axial blower on a late '50s Mercury Y-Block or MEL engine would have made my day. Putting four 1953 Corvette carburetors on the blower would have made me cry like a little girl.

Man, you guys just diagnosed my situation down here, I suffer from magnetic horizontal surface disease!

I have it so bad even the non metallic stuff sticks to it.
IMG_6700.jpg

But, it’s being treated.

It’s like a archeological dig right in my own shop.

Enjoying your thread Kirk.

Don't worry about hijacking if we're talking hot rods. It's 4th on my favorites list, right after the typical 3,...****, drugs, and rock and roll. Nope wrong list, Wife, rest of the family, and the Good Lord. And sorry, but since my hot rod will be diesel powered, no carbs.

And CB, right now, you can't find an empty spot on my bench, or Robin's. And both are my messes.

It wasn’t a very productive weekend, but I did manage to get one big item. I didn’t count my taper drills before I laid this out. I thought 40 holes for for my #2 tapers would be enough, and that a total of 110 holes for everything would be plenty. Oops. Quick drop back, move a divider and remove another, and double up a set of holes and now I have a little room to grow,…….very little. Maybe I should move my thumb when I take pictures.

I got the next step in getting my tapers and collets done. French cleats are done. My first time. Wasn’t as bad as I thought. Now, I have to epoxy the tubes in place, put the sizes on the verticals, and put some kind of sealant on them.

We finally have about 7"-8" on the ground. It's not so much I wanted snow, I'm just absolutely tired of the COLD gray rain and nasty mud.

xtremek great work on the organiser:thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks Steve. It will sure beat them rolling around drawers, having to dig through them to find what I want.

Look what I got from my son for Christmas! Yeah, I know it’s like a month late, but it came from Texas with my daughter and she hadn’t been out until last weekend. It’ll end up on the wall above the lathe, once I get that part of shop ceiling insulated. With this and the MotoTooner prints, etc. I got from my daughter, that wall should look pretty good when the drywall goes up.

You should have received another 6-8" on top of that snow yesterday or late Monday. And with the cold and wind, it's not going anywhere for a while. My buddy in Grand Haven has over 12" on the ground now. That was the first big snow they received this season.

They closed schools here for Wednesday because of the wind chill and it's not warming up all day. To add a little insult to the bitter cold wind, we got about 3/4"-1" of really dry powder snow Tuesday night. And I have a 75 minute drive NE tomorrow morning. I figure it will take closer to 90 minutes tomorrow morning.

BMF, we got about 6" plus the cold and another 1/2"-3/4" last night. The kids haven't had school yet this week, but I think they'll have it Friday. Me, haven't missed a day yet, but this place is empty. Funny, considering I have the longest commute of anyone on this floor.

I've been really quiet at the Princess Palace/Hack Shack. GM fired 1300 people in the complex I work at (GM Tech Center in Warren). It was hard to watch good people get walked out. I'd come home and just sit and stare at the walls.

We lost 3 in my group, only one was fired (the others took the buyout). He was young, sharp, intelligent, kind, well spoken, loyal, everything you'd want in an employee. The only other car guy in my group. Robert, I will miss seeing you every day.

That stinks, it is always hard seeing something like that, I guess the only optimistic thing is that you still have your job.

My uncle works for a company that has been bought out several times, it also goes through smaller layoffs a lot, he has never been laid off or let go. It doesn't lessen the stress any, so I kind of know how you feel, at least through all the talking my uncle does.

Thanks guys, it's good to know others have been through it. My funk is slowly leaving. Got to say, it was a very depressing place to be last week. Normally there's about 100 people in my area and the dull roar is like a high school cafeteria (open floor plan), but last week the loudest noise was someone typing on an old USB keyboard. Just glad it's over.

Wow, Kirk, for a Happy New Year, it doesn't sound too great with the cold, snow, wind and layoffs on top. As Strouty said, at least you have your job. Wishing you the best moving forward. Amazing how often the one with the farthest commute is always there; says a lot for you! When I worked in a factory after college, I was 4 hours and 55 minutes late getting to work during a blizzard, after digging a path almost a block long to get my car to a plowed road. 5 minutes later everyone was sent home for that and the next day paid in full, so I felt good about all the digging. My foreman was jokingly pissed at me( This was decades ago.)

It never a good thing to get through. I've been there on both ends of the deal. Watching friends get walked out and then after months of wondering when it was my turn, suddenly one day it was my turn. Bad deal all around but glad to hear you have your job. Be glad for every day and for family and friends.
