I personally would prefer axle stands like this:

Unfortunately, the stand is only as good as the quality of the threaded rods (screws) and the nut welded to the body of the stand. With the screw & nut taking all the load, damage to the threads can develop over time. The threads are also subject to rust from exposure to moisture/high humidity which can cause the components to bind or become frozen in place. The dead stop type stand with pins are longer lasting, cheaper to manufacture and easier to maintain. SD

What did you find out ?

It is clear that threads generally should be greased/lubricated. I´ve seen similar looking threads (motion screw thread/ movement thread (?)) on vises which are like 50 years old and still working properly. You also dont turn the screw of the jack stand under load so i see no problems with the longlivety. The jack stand has a rating of 5 tons , the typical car weight is about 1.5 to 1.8 tons maybe 2 tons in the US so there is enough margin especially since not the complete car weight is loaded on the stand, so maybe only 700 - 800 KG. ( plus don´t forget the safety margin engineered into the stand, maybe 1,5 or 2 times the max. load capacity)

Full extended .. that's pretty high off the ground .. tried mine on the last notch and it does not wobble like yours ??

Had to try mine too. I have the AC version, not the Esco one shown.

Mine does not do that. Not even close. The wobble is very very slight and not even appreciably different from the first hole to the last.

There is a difference after all. This is the first proof I have seen that the Esco and AC stands are more than cosmetically different.

I waited too long to buy the Danish-made jack stands, flat top. But looks like the curved tops are available from the site for US$99 per pair, which is a steal, I think.

I only once asked him about the hydraulic jacks because i had seen a made in china jack which looked 1:1 like the AC jack and he answered:

This is the response I got from AC Hydraulics about their jack stands (I asked earlier this year):

The Jack Stand we have in our product range is not manufactured in Denmark. But all jack stands are tested with 150% load so we are 100% shore that they are okay.

If we should make them - the cost would be must higher.

We make all other product here in Denmark

I e-mailed back asking if he could tell me where they were made (within Europe) or elsewhere, and didn't get a response back.

Then I sent an e-mail to the American seller and got a different response: that the seller e-mailed Denmark to confirm country-of-origin and they confirmed that the jackstands in Denmark.

I'll try to find that e-mail. Now I e-mailed to each roughly about the same date. Got two different responses. Possibly I misunderstood. Maybe we're talking about different models (or the American seller thought I was talking about the actual jacks) and one of us got confused, I don't know.

I drove up to his house, drooled over some of the tools and of course the garages, and walked home with a DK20 plus the flat top AC stands. I've enjoyed them since and they have been faultless. Last year I got engaged, married, and finally bought my first house with a wonderful 2.5 car garage and walk down basement. It's a dream in the making! Anyway, I've been having issues getting the jack to raise my latest car high enough to get on the stands. So I came here searching for info on AC distributors since steve no longer carries them. I read this thread from beginning to end. At some point I was saddened to find I couldn't get the DK13HLQ, and later miserable to find that I could if I sold a kidney (which still left me explaining to my wife why I sent a large check to "a guy in Canada"). And finally a little relief to see pelicanparts carries them for $550 shipped! Given what I've spent on tools over the last 6 months (turns out my car tools have limited utility when it comes to home projects), I have to wait a little while longer, but there is now hope! Thanks to all the folks that have contributed to this thread over the years! I will have my new jack soon enough (and a DK20 on the block shortly thereafter).

And one more thank you to Steve! I had NO idea how much care and attention he put into the sale of these jacks. I just showed up and dropped it in my trunk. I remember thinking on the drive home "did I just spend $400 on a jack and two stands???". It seemed like a lot of money back then (and still does), but I've been really really happy with the goods!

Why dont you try and fix your Jack instead of buying another one for $550? Does the initial retailer not provide rebuild kits for there product? Excuse me if im confused, Does your DK20 not lift high enough because of the vehicle height or Jack failure? I see no use in spending that much on jack if you cant rebuild it, Or the seller doesnt stand behind there Products with a Kit. Just curious..

The jack works perfectly...within it's limitations. The stands are quite tall, so for most cars, the DK20 has enough height to get the jackstands underneath, but not my current car. The extra reach of the DK13 is a bonus that does come in handy from time to time.

I Gotcha now, Im not familiar with that line of jacks and i was confused a bit.

Lets just say I had an "issue" where I ordered a set of AC stnds from the local distributor and what I was sent didn't quite look right. I then called AC in Denmark and discovered that the distributor had commissioned the manufacture of copies in China and that was what I was supplied with.

In that discussion, the AC guy in Denmark advised me that AC stands are manufactured in China but are thouroughly checked in Denmark.

It's too bad about them being made in PRC. I wonder if the AC models were as well...

I suppose the American distributor is under the impression that stands he has were made in Denmark, since he has stated this fact on his website. And claims to have heard from AC that they were.

Yeah, I'm surprised by this as well. Maybe they get other components made in China, and get it all in one container. Or there market is European, so the stands have to be shipped to them anyway for distribution to the Euro. market.

If not, can you suggest a place that may carry aftermarket wheels that will fit the axles ...(I have not looked at the wheels) but I'm looking to replace them with something a bit less plasticky on both my DK13 and DK20.

I'll have to find my old paperwork on the wheels I had made to see what the cost was going to be. I know the minimum order was going to be around $10k my cost and the wheel sets were going to be around $100 (for 4 wheels). There was too much risk and the project didn't make sense financially. I paid $400 for 2 sets of prototypes.....setup cost can be expensive with any machine shop.
