Some more light blue AC awesomeness was just acquired from Flemming at Flema products.

Transaction was really smooth (cross boarder) and I highly recommend sourcing AC stuff from him as he is truly stand up guy.

I just put it together tonight when I got home from work but here is a teaser...

Well, I really was going to get the larger model WJN10 but they were not going to have any in stock until the next shipment in late Jan/early Feb 2011 so in talking we were able to strike a deal on the WJN5 model that he used for displays at trade shows. At over a half metric ton this thing still will lift quite a bit and will surely cover any motor/trans swap I throw at it. I paid $650 tax and shipping included to get it to Dallas.

Nice engine hoist.....I sold a few of the WJN10 foldable cranes back in 2003. Haven't seen one since. SD

Thanks. Each time I see you post it reminds me of a good decision to buy both the DK20 and DK13 from you back in 2004 even when all I really needed at the time was just one of them.

Used the WJN 5 this weekend on my E30 build... along with the HF load leveler it worked really smooth. The balance of the crane is excellent and the footprint all folded up is just under one square foot.

Even as this is the 1 metric ton model, the load limit with the arm set up fully extended is 780 lbs. Highly recommend these AC cranes.

Wow. That engine crane is sweet (and so is the motor :)). Is that an OTC stand I see in the background? :)

I hope you don't mind some questions. It's tough finding someone who actually owns one of these things...

- When it's folded up, can you wheel it around easily enough?
- Does the OTC stand fit inbetween the legs of the crane enough so you can tranfer a motor to the stand? That is one problem I have had with wide engine stands.
- Are the wheels poly or steel?

No problem. I will post up some pics later to clarify my answers.

From the pics you might be able to see that the base legs pivot off the rearmost pin and then are held up by pushing the peg into the second hole. When its all folded up there is a bit of slack in the legs so when you tip it they fall back/forward about an inch or two when measured all the way out at the wheels.

Moving it is no problem but the first couple times you have to get a feel for the way the balance works. Since its rolling on the rear wheels and they are on swivel casters, you have to tip it about 20 deg to get it in the sweet spot where the wheels roll straight based on the push and don't tend to want to wander. I have found it easy to just rest it on my shoulder and then begin to move it with a push of my foot against the lower plate the rear wheels mount.

Wheels are a very hard poly/rubber of some sort.

Good eye. I ended up searching for the OTC engine stand based on your post. :D And yes, the OTC stand does roll right up under the crane and you can mount the motor even without having to extend the lifting arm on the furthest slot.

nice crane !!!

Thanks! Saved up some $ for this one and glad I did. Its a great crane.

Just a follow up post to display how the crane folds up and how compact it is for storage...

Pic displays a SO 1/2 S832 for size comparison and first pic shows how the legs fold on the lower assembly and have pull pins for locking and storage -

I wanted to buy an OTC engine stand a couple of years ago but it was right when they changed to imported stands, i sure wish they would re-think that change. If I had ordered one six months eartlier it would have been a problem but they changed and I was not happy about it.

Geez. It's nice when someone engineers outside the box. Man, that things rocks.

Looks who is trying to copy the design...

Pretty sure the 1726A is still made in USA, but I could be wrong.

Old thread I know, but it appears Pelican is selling the DK13HLQ again and has some in stock. Trying to justify it in my head. pelican

The OTC 5200 made in spain, shipped with amazon prime is quite a bit cheaper though.
amazon

I have a pair of ac jack stands though and nothing makes me more confident of their build quality.

This is kinda off topic but... Since we are talking about Denmark made jacks....

I have a Denmark made Compac floor jack. 3 ton capacity, nylon wheels. It has a bypass so you can't overload it, as well as a large D shaped handle. It has very safe and controlled descents. You can order parts kits for it. So far I would recommend it, although I've only had it about 6 months. Lifts my f350 no problem. I expect this jack to last a lifetime (with maybe a rebuild and new wheels) Only complaint is that it does not lift high enough, although they make an extended saddle for it.

I paid about 475 shipped from asedeals

Bringing this thread back from the dead. I love that WJN5 engine hoist. Are there any distributors in the US now that might be able to get this?

Wow. I should have searched before bothering hiball. I just ordered a dk20. It was lower than the hein Werner. When you have a low car that matters. I got it from pelican and should be here by Friday. Can't wait. My crappy crafty was the same one in the pic on page 3 it keeps lowering. I hope this thing lasts forever and doesn't have to be rebuilt often.

One of my great regrets is not getting one of these back in 2008 or 2009 when there were a lot of discussions about them. And those alum. jackstands that were later copied by Easco (sp?) -- I talked and talked and talked about it. And thought and thought and thought about it. And did nothing. In the end, I got an HW jack, and 4 jack stands. And have used them very little. THough they’re stout and them seem good quality.

I was looking at the Compac too - I learned about them on the Tools From the Old World Thread (thanks Monty!) a while back. Even got some pamphelts on them.

I have ESCO flat top jack stands. They were the AC copies. Used to be available from ultimategarage and pelicanparts. The are definitely not aluminum.

Since I didn't get the jack when promised due to a mistake, they gave me a free rebuild kit. I used my jack to change my wife's oil on her g8 and the jack worked perfect. I would buy the long reach one if I could do it again. Not sure it would lift my denali hd though.

You should have gotten one in the beginning back in 2001.........DK20's were $189ea and DK13HLQ's were $289ea.

Here's an old email (12 years ago) from the sales mgr at AC Hydraulic after our meeting here in the states........

From: Niels Rahbek <[email protected]>
To: 'Steve D'Gerolamo' <[email protected]>
Subject: SV: Hello from Ultimate Garage
Date: Mon, 17 Jun 2002 11:21:16 +0200

Dear Steve

I was very impressed with your garage and even more with your well
structured stock for Ultimate Garage. Tomorrow I will talk with my engineers concerning a new lifting rod / point for the 3000N, and later fax the drawing to you. I will also talk with my production manager about a special edition of the DK13HLQ - I will keep you informed.

Best Regards

Niels Rahbek
Sales Manager
AC Hydraulic A/S

The drawings were of the new flat tops stands I requested for my customers (I was given exclusive rights to these for the first 2 years) and the special edition DK13HLQ never went into "official" production.

What I like about Steve’s offerings (I’ve bought from him a couple of times) is he’s obsessed with quality. And this was probably even more important in the old days, before the internet took off, but he was able to “curate” all kinds of interesting things and bring them together and present them in a compelling way.

Bringing this back from the dead. Can anyone here tell me where I can get a WJN10

I'm so tired of my normal style engine hoist taking up room in the garage.

I would think it would extremely difficult in todays times to selll a $600 dollar 2 ton jack. I dont question the design but I have alot of experience in the Rebuilt side of this market and when you factor in the economy, people only seeing the Big numbers (ie 3.5 ton harbor freight jack for 69.99 on sale) it makes it difficult. The customer base might be there and im just unaware it, I would venture to say 90% of my jack sales comes from people who are aware of the Brands from a previous ownership or knowledge. Not to mention im selling rebuild jacks with the same warranty you get from the manufacturer New at Less than 50% of new price.
Hiball, do you still sell rebuilt floor jacks?
I know this is an older thread this is the first I saw of that.

Currently No.. I have a bunch of candidates and will eventually get back into the market, but my plate is full and I’ve been working on some of my personal favorites and friends and neighbors jacks.

On Pelican Parts I saw an idiot that was saying that it drops to fast and that he couldn't that for the money he spent the jack wouldn't lower slower. I had to laugh to myself about an idiot that would spend that much money on a product and not read the manual.

Since the problem is that he probably doesn't read I created this video to help guys like him.

AC Hydraulic DK13HLQ Drop Speed Adjustment Video
Any chance you could upload that video to YouTube?
