Accrued interest as a selling point on toolboxes?

I'm noticing this a bit more lately when foraging around Craigslist for boxes - people are using the accrued interest as a selling point.

http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/tls/1854431131.html

Retails for $5655, selling for $5000 - but it's a deal, because you won't pay interest!

If I had $5K cash in hand, I'd be talking to a dealer directly and buying new, rather than a completely **** discount on someone's used box.

Do you folks see this idiocy locally?

Thats about the dumbest thinging Ive ever seen and unless he bought it with a credit card and making min monthly payments that makes no sence.

The thing is, it's not just one guy - it's two different guys in this case, and there's other ads like that out there.

I'm kinda flabbergasted that anyone would even think that it's a valid selling point - hadn't seen that until today.

With cold hard cash they could walk up on the truck and buy one brand new in the color they want cheaper. I hate that cranberry color.

same here, if i wanted to pay retail, it better be in my choice of color..

// from the looks of it the second one is a dealer/distributor selling them? (it looks like a snapon advert in the second pic)

Kinda my thought. I dunno how much I could get discounted, but if I had $5000 cash, I'd go to the truck first, order the color I want, and on a $5500 box, offer $4500.

I doubt I'd order the cranberry, but I do dig the color.

The offer on these used boxes should be 30-40 cents on the dollar tops! I don't think the dealers are offering much more than 25 cents ??

That's a stupid sales pitch, and TOTALLY unrealistic pricing.

This is why I avoid Craigslist entirely. It makes me lose faith in people.

It just proves how dumb people are is all.

Think about how dumb the average person is. Now consider that half of the people in this country are dumber than that!

Craigslist just reminds us of what we already knew.

Too many people think like that. Several years ago I had a co-worker mention that he was selling his wife's motorcycle. I asked how much & he came back with a price about $3K more than a new one. I asked why so much & was shown a piece of paper...original purchase price, insurance, registration, oil/filters, tires... He wanted me to pay for all of operating expenses too.

He's not dumb. He's just thinking to offer the box on credit, just like the snappy dealers, but with 0% interest! Or, is he??? :headscrat

I was referring to a buyer with cash buying either box used at those prices. Snap-on is giving credit on the fact that guys like this can't afford and are ready to get repo so they figure unloading them will get them out of the hole they dug or are skipping town. This would be a buyer beware situation and a good idea to not get in the middle of. For instance the Snap-on guy shows up as your loading the box in the back of your pickup....and the seller books with the cash. I am sure any of the Snap-on guys on here would advise to wait until after the repo and than work your deal for less.

I wonder if anyone's ever used the same logic when trying to sell a house? Either way the guy's got a screw loose but all it takes is another guy with 2 screws loose to make the sale.
