Add drywall over garage foundation block?

Hello everyone,
I bought a house last year. I have the garage cleared out due to another project.. so I thought it would be a good time to "finish" the walls. The wall is finished and drywalled, except for about 12-16 inches at the bottom where the foundation blocks are exposed. I was talking to a buddy, and he said that could induce a mold problem, but a vapor barrier may help.

So my question is, can I put a vapor barrier over the blocks, and attach (possibly glue or something) the drywall directly to the block? There really isn't any room to add a firing strip or anything, because then the new drywall wouldn't align with the current drywall. If I place drywall over the block, it would sit flush. There is a 2x4 at the top of the block where I can attach the top of the drywall, but below that is just block.

Thanks!

Would it be okay to use a masonry primer on the block, then drywall over that?

you want it for a clean look? I would not reccomend that. tile it or something if you want it to look fancey.
or there is a waterproof drywall, think its magnesium based or something.
or durock and a setting plaster.

the problem you will have is that the block will be colder than the air, if conditions are right the moisture in the air will condense on cold surfaces. the cold block will make the drywall that touches it colder, increasing the chance of condensation. using a vapor barrier will only stop moisture from wicking into the drywall from the block, it will not solve condensation issues

Tile it , then you can hose the floor with no problems.
Dry wall is a bad way to go.
Do something water proof, you could even go over it with block filler then use a pool paint and it would look good and be water proof.
Just my opinion though, not worth much.

Personally I would not do that.
I would drywall to the top of the block and then put something on the block like tile, brick veneer, that plastic wood decking, aluminum diamond plate....etc.

How about that tile that looks like wood plank, that would be cool. Or checkerboard tile....

You can make it look really cool and have the benifit of a water resistant area and not issues.

you can use an FRP product. Its typically used in commercial kitchens, mop closets etc.
Its thin, about 1/8" can be applied to block with no issues. and is designed to be sprayed down.

Sounds like the 2-by is flush with the block and the dyrwall overhangs a 1/2" or so. You can lag cement board to the block and "mesh-in" the cement board to the drywall..
