The other day I was looking at the wasted space under my box. I thought why not build a drawer with low profile wheels that will blend in with the box. I plan to use the space for bulky items and other items that do not need to be 'secured' in a locking drawer. I built it with 3/4 plywood but used MDF for the drawer face since it paints much better then plywood. I made the handle out of a 2x4 that I cut down to size, ran it through the planer and added a 3/4 aluminum channel that I polished to give it the 'chrome' look much like the tool box handles. I made the wheels from bed frame rollers (support 125lbs each). I bent up some 3" flat bar and welded up a box to house the wheels with a flange on each side to mount them to the drawer bottom. Mounted, the wheels extend 3/8 past the bottom of the drawer so you don't lose drawer depth. The drawer is totaly independent and requires no modifications to the tool box. I painted the drawer gloss black and lined the drawer with some black rubber floor runner that they sell on the roll at Ace. I know some guys put stuff under their box, but you have to stand on your head to get it out or see what is under there. I think this drawer will be handy storage with easy access.
