I'm having a cold water line added in the area by the hose reel in the garage. Any suggestions or comments on placement or advice? BTW that electrical wiring will be fixed too.

Just one concern. - I noticed your location is in NJ. My guess is that you would need to be concerned with pipes freezing in your garage?
If it is heated then should not be an issue. If not, you will need to consider a method to protect it from freezing.

As far a placement I would try and have it placed a close to the pit as I could, although that would also be closest to the door and cold air!

Along with "38 Dodge's" question, can you show where you want to bring the pipe into the garage and what kind of spigot you had in mind?

I'm thinking I'd have a shutoff valve in the basement and bleed the line for the winter.

That would work. The other option would be to have your plumber install an outdoor spigot on that wall (the kind that has the shut off on the warm side of the house. Then you would not have to remember to drain the line.
