Adding end cabinets to rolling tool boxes

Ok, this is a follow up from the following thread:

Unfortunately, the holes for the Tractor Supply end cabinet do not match the pre-drilled holes on the HF. The HF cabinet has two pairs of holes drilled approximately 13 1/8" apart, with one pair at the top and one at the bottom. They are already tapped (metric threads), and look to be set up for the handles. It has an extra set at the top just outside of the tapped holes, approximately 16 3/8" apart (not tapped, simply drilled through). The Tractor Supply cabinet has two pair of slots drilled at the top, 16 3/4" center to center and one set 3" below the other. It does not have any holes drilled in the bottom.

Here are my questions. If I want this end cabinet to work with the box, I am going to have to drill mounting holes. Question is, how many holes do I need to sufficiently support the cabinet? Will two at the top be enough, or should I run 3 each? For those who are using end cabinets attached to your main rolling cabinet, how are they attached?

The end cab should have a lip and that should hook on the side of the box. All the screws do is keep the side box from moving back and forth. When I had my 40" combo, I had a bulk cab I bought used. For about the first month it just hung on the side not bolted. I ened up drilling two holes and screwing it down just because it would slide around so easy.

Interesting! The TSC end cabinet doesn't have a lip, so I may need to fabricate some kind of hanger. Or, I may simply check with Tractor Supply and see if they can still get the hardware I need.

I don't know about the TSC, but on the craftsman side box, the lip is removable and has to bolted on the side box before hanging. Does TSC have any sides mounted on display?

i'd probably bolt it in place with the 2 upper holes, and not worry about it.

if it was being moved around a lot, then run a couple bolts through the bottom to keep it from moving.

drill holes on the side cab to match the box
use all 4 holes and no hanger that way it is secure and you dont have to worry about how much you put in the side cab
use fender washers on the inside of the side cab on the top just for good measure

I debated with trying to fab up a hanger for the end cabinet, but simply ended up using bolts. I drilled two holes up top to match the pre drilled holes in the end cabinet, and drilled two holes to match the threaded holes in the roller (which are there for the handle). I really don't think I even needed the two additional holes, as the first two held pretty well. There was no way to really line up a hole for the bottom, so I simply ran in two 5/16" sheet metal screws for good measure. It easily supports my weight, which is close to 170lbs. All I am putting in the end cabinet are my air tools, which shouldn't be that much weight.

i'd use self tapping screws between the boxes.. but i don't own an end cabinet.
i know self-tapping screws work for re-attachig a rear bumper on a 1986 honda accord.

For future reference, the 3 drawer tool box I picked up at TSC (for my chainsaw stuff) was an exact match to a Cman box except color. The instruction sheet was printed exactly like the Cman stuff too. I wonder in the bigger boxes are the same as the Cman stuff ?
