Hello GJ friends.
I have a 24x30x10 pole building that I'd like to add on to. The 24' side is the gable end, and I want to build off that end (opposite the main 16' overhead door). This space will be used for storage of a 16' camper (that is about 9 feet tall at it's tallest point, and doesn't currently fit through the 16' door), motorcycle on a lift, and various other things, including a space for lounging. I want this to be insulated, and heated on-demand. The rest of the existing garage need not be insulated or heated at this time.
So, my options are to sort of extend the existing roofline and pitch, continuing on with a 3-sided extension similar to the existing structure. OR, build on a 3-sided stick-built building that "tucks in" under the existing gable end (16" eve), and is slightly shorter in height. I like this option because I can get the slab poured, and then build it largely myself as I have time.
The big deal is getting the camper in and out. With it's height, I'd probably need to put the door on the gable end of the addition, even though I'd like the door on the side. Once you put in a header over the door opening, it really starts to crunch the vertical space. I don't need an over-head door, which I know ***** up even more vertical space, so a slider or even a carriage style would work. It wouldn't be open all that often, and it needs to be insulated well.
I'll take a photo tonight when I get home so you can envision it.
I'm thinking 24x24 in size, with as tall a wall as I can get away with (hopefully a 10' door opening).
Thanks for your help!
