Adjust SO caster lock?

So I've go these new pimped-out chromed casters to go on my KRL1001. They have a lever lock that bears against the side of the wheel at the axle, whereas the old Faultless casters locked against the outside of the wheel.

On one the lever action is super stiff, takes 100+ lbs to get it all the way down and I use a board to lever it back up, action on the other is more reasonable.

Unfortunately, neither lock worth a darn, can easily push the box around with both locked.

It looks like I could tighten the outside nuts, but I think that'll just make the action stiffer, seems more like I need an extra washer between the locking mechanism and the wheel.

Anyway, they are closed today so I turn to all ya'll for expert counsel.

Thanks
Jim

Edit: on the stiff one activating the brake turns the axle and nut on the opposite side of the wheel, on the other it does not.

I don't have any good input, mine don't do anything but keep the box from rolling when the wind blows, any other time it moves freely. Do yours have locking swivels? If so you could position the wheels in opposite directions to keep it from moving, but that is a chore to do if you move your box a lot. I figure my brakes are only good for slowing things down.

Mine is mostly against a wall where the floor slopes slightly downward towards the center of the room, the casters want to turn and that end of the box rolls towards the center of the room. If I can't figure out the brakes I'll either put the old ones back on or make some wood chocks.

Snap On KRFL6AR might solve your problem. I never got around to getting one for my old KRL so I can't vouch for it. I've had stiff brake levers before (incredible force required to release them) and I just oiled them and they loosened up nice. I've had a few Snap On roll cabs and none had great brakes.

Buy some decent casters and use the OE for something less critical?

Once you go "full locking" casters you wont go back.

Look up Albion, Faultless, RWM, ER Wagner, Revvo, Hamilton, and Colson.
