Advantage 4 post lift has arrived! Pics and review inside.

I'll post more details as I get it together, but the lift showed up Friday. My skid steer, which has a 7000 pound tipping weight wouldn't lift it out on the pallet forks (they're too short I assume), but we got it out and in the garage. One harbor freight casualty. I guess they're not kidding when they say 1000 pound capacity. 2 rolling jacks in the separate boxes.

Advantage 9000XLT

More to follow.

AAHHhhaaa lift ****, we need lots of pictures.

Very minor progress. Got a buddy to come over to get it mostly unpacked. These pieces weigh a lot more than the smaller lifts. Going to rent a hijacker/material handler since we'd need 4 guys otherwise.

My plan....

  1. I'm guessing the truck driver will have a pallet jack.
  2. Jack up the far end and place the HF dolly under it. The dolly will be topped with 3/4" OSB bolted on.
  3. Using my 2-ton engine hoist raise up the near end and roll back out of the trailer.
  4. When the dolly is near the end, set the hoist end down onto another HF dolly set up.
  5. Now pickup up the other end out of the trailer.
  6. Now both ends are on the ground.

Depending on what surface you drop the end onto, you might want to consider a dolly with better wheels. I tried moving mine on brand new asphalt and all it did was gouge the wheels up on the HF dolly. They're poor quality (surprise) They did work well on my new shop floor (machine troweled concrete) but even then pushing this thing around on dollies was not easy. Having said that, this lift's shipping weight was almost 2400 pounds where many others are 1700 or so. Might make a difference. Good luck with it.

Can’t wait for some photos. I’m still torn between the advantage XLT vs the regular. This is my Christmas present :)

Sent from my iPhone using The Garage Journal mobile app

I was between those as well. Tony at Advantage made it simple. If you have the space, why not buy the bigger one? I did. I may never *need* it, but the extra height is going to be nice when it's in storage mode.

Yes they are because it's more like 700, if that. And that's with reinforcement LOL.

About 700 on that one end:

To be fair, the one I broke held up on the heavy end of the packed lift (likely 1500 pounds) with me dragging it all up an asphalt driveway...until the wheels hung up and the lift slid on the dolly. Operator error.

I'm looking at around 1900 pounds.
Probably lay down some scrap OSB for the crappy casters to roll on.

Spent an hour tonight with a couple helpers. All I have left now is the top caps, cables and mount/fill the power unit. My truck is due for an oil change and I hope to make it my first run on the lift this weekend.

Well, I broke in my nice, clean garage floor last night. Apparently, they DO ship the rolling hydraulic jacks filled with fluid. Also, it's a bad idea to add lots more fluid and then cycle the jack. At least the fluid was new and shiny. On the plus side, the sealant I used on the floor worked as they said it would.

Well, it's all together and after running it up and down 100 times empty and then with my truck on it I finally worked up the nerve to get under it. It's wonderful to be able to stand up (I'm 6-1) and work under a vehicle, in my own garage.

As for the Advantage lift, I'm very pleased with this unit. I bought the 9000XLT just to have the extra height and length. With my truck on it there is zero movement. I tried shaking it and it still didn't move. The build quality is good (Chinese mid to upper quality I'd say) Welds are functional, but not pretty. Assembly was very easy. The videos Tony Weber has put together are excellent and walk you through every aspect of unpacking and assembly through final adjustments. The videos are older and you'll find that there are some updated parts that aren't covered well in the video, but it's all pretty straight forward and nothing will confuse you. I'd say I have 4 hours total in this with 2 helpers assisting with the heavy pieces. I spent a lot of time adjusting the runway height so the locks all fire together, but even that is very simple.

Paint is good quality (colors match my Handy motorcycle lifts) with few runs and no areas not covered. The hardware kit was missing one piece...a split lock washer for one of the runway bolts.

The power unit seems to be of good quality. The motor is quiet, the release valve works easily even with pressure built up against it. What more is there to say about that?

The wheel kit seems to work well. Once on the wheels, one person can easily move this around on a smooth floor.

The aluminum ramps are easy to use, lightweight and look pretty trick. No matter what lift you buy, get aluminum ramps.

The ramp width could be a bit wider, imo, but all our vehicles fit without issue. When I talked to Tony about larger vehicles, he suggested that some have simply drilled 2 a new hole for one or both ramps to allow them to be placed further apart. Seems easy enough, but not necessary for me.

The 2 manual, rolling jacks work very easily. It took very little effort to raise the rear wheels of my truck off the runways 3" or so. I'm glad I didn't spend the extra for the air over hydraulic jacks.

All in all, I can easily recommend the Advantage 4 post lift. My experience has been good from pre-sales through delivery and assembly.

Let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to try to answer them.

Another photo for anyone interested. The lift is not all the way up in this pic and I can stand comfortably under it. I'm 6-1.

What brand is that oil drain?

Too late for you but in case some else is reading this, someone suggested installing the non-power ramp first then the power ramp. It is easier to align things up.

Here are some tips on the casters that might be of use.

Good to know you're happy with it. I considered buying one this year, but I think I'll be waiting until next year when things are a little more organized at my place.

Harbor freight oil catch. This is the one that you pressurize with shop air to empty through a hose on the unit.

I don't see how installing either ramp would be easier, but the way this is packed and shipped, the power ramp is on top and oriented with the top of the ramp already up. The non-power ramp is on the bottom loaded upside down. Would have been more work to install the power ramp last.

The Advantage caster kit is designed differently and removes the issues the guy mentions in that video you linked) about the Bendpak wheels. Advantage has a saddle that is welded to the arm which increases the height the posts are lifted. It looks to me like the Bendpak caster frames are shorter also which makes sense that you'd need to change the fulcrum point by adjusting the wheels. I've not had the issue he mentions about the wheels needing to be in a particular position. I have the 2 rolling jacks also so the extra weight helps a lot with the runways coming down into position faster.

Glad to see this, I have ordered the 11k lift, should be here the middle of this month. I like how the locks are on these and the BYB lifts.

Good luck with it. The only complaint I have is that the hydraulic hose twists when raising the lift. You can untwist it at the bottom, but it twists going up...untwist it at the top and it twists going down. Needs a swivel I suppose.

If it twists, I'll work out a solution, did you talk to advantage about the problem?

Yes and Bendpak and Wildfire (just to see what they'd say) It's a thing with lifts. A swivel will take care of it, but they all claim it's not a problem.

I don't have a problem. maybe you need to find the correct position before tightening it the hose flare, so it is not twisted to one direction too much when all the way up or down. Probably try to undo and tighten the fitting when it is around mid way?

My jack did not have enough fluid but it is the pneumatic pump. Everyone should check, mine did not lift at all until I topped the pump full with jack oil.

I've tried up, middle and down, but no matter it twists more than I think it should.

Both of my manual jacks were underfilled, but worked OK.

Your ramps are missing the yellow plastic at the entry end of the ramp. Mine came with it attached.

I noticed light fluid coming from my hose as well.

Don't try and use the casters with a car on it, the casters can't handle even a move a an inch or two. Without a car, they work great.

Update, I've been using mine for a bit, and no problems. The hose has been fine, no twisting. Only problem, Is that I need to make my garage door lift higher now.

My plan....
