I've been a fan of Eric's virtually since the beginning of his channel. In the early days, he used a Snap On Verus virtually exclusively. Ivan from Pine Hollow did as well, and mostly still does.
Now Eric has a plethora of scan tools, and they all have their issues. From my viewing, I'd say his Autel crashes the most, his Launch lies the most, and he seems to dislike his Verus the most, for reasons I don think he's explicitly stated.
Keith from New Level Auto refers to Autel as "awfultel" and I can't remember him using one recently. He uses mostly brand specific scan tools, which are really the best for their respective brands, although owning and keeping several of them updated is out of reach for most of us.
I was looking for a scan tool and researched everything I could for a long time. Fact is, no aftermarket scan tool is perfect or does everything on every model made since 1996. The Launch/Autel/Others all seemed shady--lawsuits from OEMs, you have to buy it from here--not there, etc. I also wanted a scope. For those reasons, and a very good deal, I ended up with a new Modis Edge earlier this year. I only use it on my personal vehicles and those of family (Chrysler, Ford, Toyota) and it hasn't given me any headaches. It was a "buy once cry once" thing for me. YMMV.
