My grandfather passed away and left me a 100 galllon Air Compressor. 1 cycle i believe its called. While moving it one of the brass fittings broke off of the Pump. I believe its one of the 3/8 copper lines with brass fittings. The line comes off of the end of the (crank shaft) i assume?? There is a small rod protruding slightly out of the casing, i can see it has some travel.. And inside the brass fitting is what appears to be a check valve of some sort.

My young expierience would have me guess this is a line that pumps oil up the top of the motor, or vise versa, and im guess the check valve is there since the oil line is verticle? Or is this an air line to help fog the oil?

I guess what i am trying to find out, is what is the actual name of these fittings, I kinda understand what they do (i think) Im just having a hard time explaining it to people when i am asking about the parts to fix it. And i kinda want to sound like i know what im talking about when i go to the parts house haha

Sounds like it is the fitting for the centrifugal unloader

https://www.google.com/search?q=cen...oECAIQAg&biw=360&bih=672#imgrc=_-Z3DjZHTpLxPM

When the compressor is spinning that rod ***** in due to the weights on the inside spinning around and then when it stops the weights push that rod into a Schraeder valve located in the brass fitting which will relieve pressure between the check valve and discharge side of the head for easy starting

It could also be a crankcase vent run to vent the crankcase into on of the intake valves

We may both be wrong, but I agree with you.

Ok Thank you. OTher than easing the pressure for startup, is there any danger to the Pump if i temporarily closed plugged the line until i could get the part?

Ive been afraid to run this compressor without it and My other compressor cannot keep up with my workload.

If you haven't run it yet without the fitting then I would just continue to wait until you get the part. Some compressors will run without unloading, some won't, some will for a short time until something in the motor fries, some will just trip a breaker.

You could manually activate the Schraeder valve in between fills & that would get you by but will be a pain in the *** if you're under a car or something

And you would have to have the fitting attached to the copper line otherwise it will just discharge through there and the pressure won't build in the tank/slow build
