Hey all, i am looking at picking up this saylor beall pump, at least the seller said it came from a saylor beall 120 gallon compressor. Any idea if its worth picking up? Ive rebuilt a quincy before.

Looks like a 707 pump. A monster of a pump. Also very expensive for genuine parts. If it were anywhere near me it would already be in my shop getting rebuilt.

I think its a 707 too. How much would a rebuild kit cost? Im going to go see it today.

And what hp motor would i need, 5hp? More?

there should be a name plate with the model and serial number

if its a 707 its horsepower range is from 5 to 10hp, so the motor depends on how fast u spin the pump. slower lower cfm and smaller motor required.

for instance i jsut got a quincy 10hp 3 phase and im converting it to a 7.5hp single phase just slow it down to the recommended speed by manufacture.

Looks to be a older quincy 325. I would take the quincy if it's a pressure lubed model over the 707. I love my 87 quincy 325 it's the least noisy compressor I've ever owned and it runs great

Go negotiate to snag the Quincy with plenty of cash denominations in pocket ! :D

It's an especially great deal if it doesn't need much work. Good luck.

FInally got the seller of the saylor beall on the phone. Going to see it today at 5pm.

Should I even buy this thing? I would try to mount it to my vertical 60 gallon tank and toss the crappy pump in the trash. I would have to source a 5-7.5 hp motor for it, and im assuming a motor starter and whatnot? Pressure switch too. Current compressor is a husky from home depot.

YES, if it spins freely and there isn't much of a flywheel wobble (due to a bent crankshaft). I ordered my Kellogg parts throguh this store, was easily $50 cheaper than the eBay sellers:

I know another member here bought his parts from here:

Its completely covered in oil. Like, crusted over the entire thing. The head gaskets are totally blown out. It appears to have inhaled a LOT of dirt over its lifetime. The oil in the crankcase is like roofing tar. The oil sight glass is completely black, when i shined a light at it i could see some sparkle, meaning metal in the oil/tar. The safety release valves are stuck, one is busted off in the hole so that would bave to come out. Its not stuck, it turns over. However, it does not make any sound indicating its pulling or pushing air. Like the typical snoring type sound they make.

I shot him an offer, he declined saying he has lots of people lined up to buy it. After 30 days on CL, i doubt it. Ill let him stew on it.

That sounds like mine, except for the blown out gasket and valves. Definitely a full head/valve replacement job, plus new rings, most definitely a cylinder hone. The only problem I could see would be the dirt ingestion, meaning it probably made its way through the cylinders past the rings into the crankcase, which means that you may exceed the allowable piston clearance in order to get the surfaces to a smooth enough level.

If you can talk him down, or examine the bores beforehand that's ideal.

Theres no way to get inside of it. I shot him an initial offer of 40, then he said he had others interested. Ill give him a few days and see what happens.

Well, then how about that Quincy? It looks like an early-model 325 to me (I have a 325 ROC 104, from late 1980s early 1990s I think).

That quincy is a few hours one way trip, and I have scarce time off as is.
