If just filling tires and only tires I;d just buy one of the cigarette light plug-in compresor types found at any big box store. It's just a mini compressor and very very handy. Takes about 3 min a tire if almost flat.
I bought two many years ago at Meijers and I use them more often than having to drag the hose out and fire up the big boy compressor if it's not aired up.
If you want to buy a bigger real compressor, then also buy one of the "air pigs" as I call them or the mini tanks at HF or any retailer that is filled by your real compressor and acts as just a mini holding tank so you do not have to constantly use your main compressor. I can usually get two cars (8 tires) filled or maintained per pig fill up of air.
Everyone does their tire filling a little different but those $15 to $30 mini compressors that plug into your car's lighter is what I suggest.
They are pretty hearty, even HF sells a couple versions and you can carry it around or on trips in the even of a flat. Win-win.
If not then a small pancake compressor with a air chuck and extension cord should be just fine. I;ve BTDT too. You can find used pancakes on CL all day long for cheap. It's a roofer thang. lol
Good luck.
